How to paint Death Guard Plague marines

Making the color list for myself, maybe someone else will use it. Very cool. Best part about painting death guard is your mistakes tend to end up looking like you did something amazing lol.

As an 54 year old I Just got interested in this wargaming.. Have just brought first strike and the first strike paint kit.. I have found this tutorial the best for me to follow.. Have you got one on the blue space marines..

I painted DG's on a black base at it was fairly easy to cover in one coat of Death Guard Green. But it does get a darker feel to it hence th black primer. I guess you would want to do coat it twice with DG Green, if you want the green to be very prominent. IMO the gritty darker green makes it easier to edge highlight and the flesh and bones stand out more. Also the overall feel gets more "evil" with a darker feel to it, so I'd recommend a black primer.

Your right about the Death Guard Green not covering very well. I Just painted my first Death Guard Marine from the Easy to Build kit. I primed him with army painter necrotic flesh and the DGG still needed two coats to cover properly. I followed your steps almost to the T. Only difference was I base coated every color before moving on to the washes. I found it made it easier to go back and paint over mistakes prior to washing. Other than that your process worked great. Thanks for your tutorials.

Brilliant tutorial. Made the mistake of priming mine black. Stripped them back and redone them with corax white.

Decided, this is the way I'll paint my Death Guard. Simple, effective and look's great even without a tidy up due to the nature of the plague marines. AWESOME.

Your plague marine looks absolutely amazing. I found especially helpful the parts where you paint fleshy bits/tentacles. I'm about to start collecting some DG as allies for my Chaos Space Marines. So far, I'vegot a Lord of Contagion and a Malignant Plaguecaster, with a Noxious Blightbringer on the way in the mail. Death to the False Emperor!

Really good video. You really do make it look easy. I don't find edge highlighting to be as easy as you do, but you explain the steps really well. I also like that you give both Vallejo and Citadel paint options, that's helpful. Keep it up, great job.

I few things I did differently: 1. I thinned down Death Guard Green with Vallejo thinner and airbrushed it onto the models 2. I highlighted the green armor with a 1:1 mix of Elysian and Ushabti Bone before extreme edge-highlighting with 1:3 mix of the same color. Just Ushabti Bone is too prominent IMO 3. I basecoated the flesh with Rakarth Flesh, highlighted with 1:1 mix of Rakarth and Flayed One Flesh, and extreme highlighted with just Flayed One Flesh. Then I washed the flesh with Carroburg Crimson but with less wash toward then tip. Finally finished with a bit of Druchii Violet at where the flesh meets the armor. 4. For the horns, I basically did everything in reverse in which the darkest part is at the tip 5. I drybrushed Ryza Rust on the chainmails Overall, this is a very good guide for beginners. Keep up the good work!

Just got into the hobby... I choose my very First few models... From the Death Guard and From the Primaris Ultramarines, i love them and so i Can play with somebody Who haven't the miniatures. But i kinda prefer the Death Guard, they are very cool

Looks very good but I would recommend Krieg Khaki instead of Ushabti Bone for the Armor Highlight but thats just my opinion.

Just a question from an idiotic noob painter: you wait for each layer/color, e.g. death guard green, to dry before you begin adding on the next layer, right (balthasar gold). Also, should you paint these layers on twice? Thanks

Its an good Tutorial for people who dont know how to paint their Nurgles units or need advice for Highlighting. But for me this model looks in the end to "clean" for a Nurgle Marine.

Whilst this is Really great tutorial, I really wish I saw more of the back of the model, also, if you applied abbadon black where the gold was in those recesses in the armour joints. I'm literally just starting or painting and have chosen plague marines whilst I read the horus heresy so more basic detail would be great. If anyone reads this and had advice on these specifics I'd really appreciate it
