I took it as a sign from Nurgle I was meant for Death Guard. Just days after subscribing to both the channel and patreon I was fortunate to have my name pulled to recieve a combat patrol of my choice, and while there may have been objectively better options I chose the death guard one. After that a game shop I don't visit all too often just happened to have a council of the death lord battle force, so I picked that up as well. Since then I've added a PBC, 2 MBH, an extra box of marines and some deathshrouds, and I just had so much fun putting them together. The lads are all primed and admittedly I haven't touched them in about a month as I'm still learning to love painting, but overall I've got about 1750 worth of death guard already and I can't wait to expand it further. There's just something about DG that I can't help but love

Having busy models is an understatement.

For new players, you may not want to start a new army until the codex drops. Getting a few sets and painting them up is one thing, but changing from index rules to a codex can set back your spirit in playing that army

I sure could've used this video two months ago when my friends and I all pooled our money together to get one of our buddies and his gf nearly 1700 points' worth of DG kits. Shoulda seen the meltdown he had as they opened that box and got to Mortarion at the bottom.

My 2,000 pt list has 37 models haha! Want my Festering Emissaries to feel elite so full sized doomstack of Deathshroud and Blightlords. 2 squads of 7 plague marines, one plagueburst and bloat drone, lord of Contagion and Virulence, Mortarion himself and a Winged Daemon Prince… and a Helbrute named Festrius the Once Enduring Not meta by any means but I enjoy them a lot haha

Death Guard players may not particularly want more than a single minimum size Nurgling squad. But it IS possible to split the pieces up over more bases than is depicted or shown in the directions. You could have Nurglings crawling over terrain, barrels, screaming victims, etc. Getting you more model, and thus more squads, from each kit.

Theres enough extra parts to build 3 more plague marines with the combat patrol, which in my mind makes it pretty nice being its basically the only way to get 10x plague marines in one box.

Really fun army to use. Great models. Fully recommended starting the Death Guard. The current way daemon allies work aswell is great and easy to use.

I wanted to start my 40k journey with Death Guard, but 10th edition had the shiny Leviathan Box... Will watch this video as I contemplate my decisions in army choice :)

An issue with Death Guard is some amount of conversion/kit bashing is required if you want cohesive looking army to match the core range. Chaos Rhino's and Terminator characters, in multiples, Cultists, Hellbrute, Daemon Princes etc. Maybe thats why they put so many Poxwalkers in the Combat Patrols, kit bash fodder.

i'll add a few suggestions, I use both Predator tank variants in my DG list. They both gain a massive benefit from the -1 toughness that can be applied from a Helbrute, in adition to the -1save contagion. The Predator Destructor can potentially hit -3 AP against infantry with the Autocannon and Heavy Bolters. and -2AP with the Havoc Launcher and Combi-Bolter. The Predator Annihilator with Lascannons Loves the -1 toughness because it can mean the difference of wounding on a 3 instead of 4 when rolling against something with T12. They also move 10" and can be quick enough to snag an objective in the mid field if they have to.

I got into the game back in August with Leviathan and collecting Tyranids. Last few months DG has been on my radar. Literally spent a week building the boxes I had gotten. A few days ago I got Mortarion and today I ordered my last 2 Crawlers I needed. Feels like someone is spying on me and making videos about the armies I'm putting together 😆

I have Felthius and 3 terminators, I got 2 free Dark Angels terminators from GW that I plan on converting to get to 5. Then I have 3 plague marines from the heroes lootboxes that I will combine with 7 marine box to get 10. But honestly I am just waiting on a better combat patrol box to get started, I have AoS 4 to keep me busy until then.

As a DG owner, I feel like this video could be surmised with "You could play Death Guard, but there's really no reason to... unless you just like the way they look."

Felthius is a very strange model. The Lord of Contagion base is normally 50mm, however if a model is equipped with an orb of dessication, then the base size is reduced to 40mm. But there aren't any rules for that loadout with the LoC. He's the only option unless you somehow find the 8th edition sculpt, which is currently out of print. I just run him as a DG themed Chaos Lord instead.

I literally just bought my first Chaos Marine Chosen. Never played 40k before so would like to know how to build around them. Been researching all the basics and what not. Thinking of doing a Chaos Undivided army eventually. Would be interested in tips and tricks in starting out as a complete newbie.

The best ways to start a Death Guard army are unfortunately YEARS AGO. I wouldn’t start a Death Guard army today with the CP box - if it wasn’t for auto-include Typhus, it might be the worst CP box in WH40K. I started my DG army by buying my friend’s half of the Dark Imperium box and expanded it with the DG Boarding Patrol, which was a great deal. I unfortunately missed out on the two DG battleforce boxes in recent years, but I did well by acquiring ~800-points used army from a friend-of-a-friend who cashed out shortly before 10e. I don’t know if he had insider info but DG wasn’t very competitive in early 10e, but I didn’t mind because I just wanted to get a DG army on the table, to add more variety to the casual games with my friends. TBH I’ve played against my DG army more than I’ve played it myself, but the matches are always interesting. DG are really tough and stubborn to shift, but their poor mobility and meh shooting tend to put them behind on points and unable to catch up… unless they draw favourable secondaries. I tried boosting my DG army’s firepower with a couple of Wardog Brigands and Chaos Predators, which made them competitive. I also recently bought a 3rd squad of Deathshroud Terminators to use with Typhys instead of the traditional Poxwalkers mob. My favourite thing about Death Guard are their awesome character models. The Noxious Blightbringer and Lord of Contagion are my faves - despite that they’re not that great. I often proxy my Contagion Lord as a DG Terminator Lord equipped with the Living Plague enhancement, because the latter’s ability is better. The Contagion Lord’s Abundance of Sickness ability would be better suited to a Lone Operative.

If Felthius is the only Lord of Contagion being sold, doesn't it mean that the offical base size for LoC is 40mm and anything other than that is outdated, old models that need to be rebased?

As someone who has spent a few years collecting Death Guard i would like to say, f**k blight haulers, worst point sink i ever invested in 😅 (also, im totally not bitter over the fact that i have never even rolled a hit roll with the melta or missile launcher).

I think in 10th that the designers have started to delineate the difference between Death Guard and the Iron Warriors, making the latter the tougher of the two in the rules. DG is now more about the debuff mechanic. There are now an absolute horde of DG on the table now these days.

Hold on, I thought you cannot field Lord Felthius in 10th edition. There's no datasheet or points. The Lord of Contagion datasheet doesn't have his weapon loadout, and his base size is 40mm instead of 50mm anyway. His loadout doesn't even make him a viable proxy for the Chaos Lord or Sorcerer in Terminator Armor...

Start DG? honestly the answer is: Don't bother - I started them in 8th + being a veteran hobbiest and made good use of not just the fact they were floating around Ebay and converting, cheap marines, drones, etc but more importantly stuff like the easy to build 3-man plague marines existing, Felthuis Cohort, (and him and his 3 man termi squad being actually playable helped) the fact the starter box gave me access to the Lord of contagion with pox-axe. lots of heroes etc - Death guard were once collectable but GW totally left them to wither and rot (fitting given their lore) and the Plague marines kit being 7man is a spit in the face too. the ONLY good thing that remains is the Blighthauler just happening to be an easy build and so cheaper in price than other stuff - Dg in 9th and 10th are a hassle that isn't worth it until maybe we get a Codex to fix some issues

Gw gets alot of hate, but you have to give them (the balance team) credit for fixing Death Guard considering the state they were in at the start of 10th. Hope admech get a similar glow up in a few months

Never have more than 2 full size units of anything that isn’t battleline. Unfortunately, this includes poxwalkers.

Honestly I feel like you underplay the importance of waiting for the codex to drop given it will likely come with a nice new combat patrol to choose from if the current one isn't to your liking or even a battleforce. I doubt they'll get new models, though, considering how great their current range is.

Can we please just have our codex please GW...

I'm against the majority here. I love the combat patrol. Space marine (specially chaos ones) feel weird and boring by just spamming only marines. The poxwalker horde is great addition to the combat patrol. I'd complement this with lots of cultists (mixed with the traitor guard killteams/blackstone fortress), the 2 different terminator variants and another plague marine units (preferably the Japanese ones, to avoid same bodies repeated). Now you have yourself one of the coolest armies, based on Darktide+fancy marines. From there, you just take whichever fancy vehicle (with only a plague a plagueburst crawler giving mandatory feels. The defiler looks cool for DG) or daemon (nurglings, plaguebearers, beasts of Nurgle...) you like. And characters. They have so many cool characters, and you can still get most of them for cheap thanks to the old Imperium issues even now. Not the cheapest army, but far from the most expensive. My brother got it recently and did just like I said above. Looks stunning. I hope they give them a big new transport to use instead of the Rhino, where you can sit cultists as well, similar to the ones from HH. They also must give them access to additional Chaos units, like Traitor Guardsmen+Traitor Enforcer, and perhaps Possessed and Fellgor Beastmen.

Dont. Come play them in 30k where they actually have thier entire roster... unlike 40k where gw forgot CSMs actually have access to volkite and other dark age tech.
