In today's video I'm going to teach you how to paint faux bamboo furniture, how to use black wax, and how to paint laminate! This was such a fun piece to do and I am so excited to share it with you. I used ‪@DixieBellePaint‬ Slick Stick, Antebellum Blue paint, Easy Peasy Spray Wax, as well as Best Dang Wax in Black! Love this piece and love the color. I haven't seen many that use Dixie Belle paint apply the slick stick and I use it a lot. I don't want to do all of the hard work of painting then it chip off. Love the effect that the black wax gives this color and the accents around the bamboo. Applying the spray wax before putting on the black wax helps to get it off. I like the spray wax too because you can always spray a little on your rag and remove the places where the wax is too dark. Great job !!

Hi Holly, that sure is a bright color and it looks so nice with the black wax. I like clear wax but am still too chicken to try color wax! I have a board with swatches of the colors I have painted with. I can try it there. I do appreciate the depth the black wax adds to your piece. I can imagine seeing it in a high end furniture boutique!🌷

@@ChicAntiquebyHolly antebellum is a mix of stormy seas and 2 other colors ...brushed by Brandy is the one who actually came up with the custom mix of antebellum....pretty cool huh ...so antebellum and Stormy Seas Wud probably go nicely together if blending 👍🤩

Oh boy that looks like a great arm workout 😉 I am curious about the Easy Peasy Spray Wax…..love that it cures so quickly…just wondering for instance how much is used on a dresser like that? Thank you Kim! Appreciate your kind words! Your suspicion is 100% correct. The easy peasy spray wax does not go very far. I used about half the bottle on this dresser. But I think that it’s worth it BECAUSE it is so easy. Regular wax takes so much more work and it takes longer to cure. So it’s worth it to me! Thanks for watching!

Thanks! Just for a couple minutes. It helps the black wax move around and come off easier so you don't want it to dry too much before going in with black.

Yes! The spray is a wax, so it seals & protects the paint.

So beautiful! I have seen some faux bamboo pieces online and have been too timid to make an offer and paint myself. I have more confidence after watching your video. Most pieces have the original yellowish paint, but the top of the dresser is white. Is the white part plastic? How would you paint that if it is plastic? Thank you!

I’m so glad I could help! You should definitely give it a try! Yes, the tops and bamboo are usually laminate or plastic. I’m my video I used a gripping primer called Slick Stick, that allows the paint to stick to the non-wood surface. I would definitely recommend using that or Bin Zinsser Primer.

Thanks! If you are using an adhesion primer, it's not required, but you certainly can if you feel more comfortable doing so.

I also have a faux bamboo dresser that I’d like to paint a lighter shade of blue. Would I still need to use the black wax or do you only use it on dark finishes?

That would be lovely! Black wax is a decorative finish, so it is completely optional and up to you. If you're looking for some extra dimension, then it would certainly do that for you. If you want an antique or farmhouse look, you may like brown wax.

I have never used metallic paint actually. I've heard great things about Modern Masters metallic paint line. It looks like they have a bunch of colors to choose from! Antique Bronze looks like a good match.

It is a PRETTY COLOR, no doubt, and I know you HAVE to go by your Clients wishes, but being that Bamboo is actually a Dark Tan, I would have used Tan, just a Bit Lighter.

So you can apply directly black wax without using clear wax first?

I did do clear wax before the black wax! I used a spray wax first. You don’t need to use clear first when using Dixie Belle waxes but I prefer to because it makes it easier to manipulate the black wax.

I am not sure which of your videos I watched you bought a gorgeous antique piece painted it black or dark blue. Then you scuffed it all up to look old and used.. You took a beautiful piece of furniture than completely ruined it. Instead of spending time sanding it smooth and highlighting the beautiful texture you covered it with paint. That would not be so bad but than you scuffed it up to get the DISTRESSED (yuk) look which made the entire piece seem cheep and worn out. WHY WHY WHY? You could have cleaned it scrubbed it sand it properly and had part of it painted as a highlight color and polished the wood. The black and wood contrast would have made this gorgeous. I understand you like the distresses look which would be ok for a kitchen cupboard or kitchen table etc. But to take an antique piece and paint it like you did it was a shame. It doesn't match the style and period of the furniture. I am sorry for the criticism but before you redo an old piece study it understand the style and the function. I really wish you all the best. You are a sweet young lady but yes you are very young and there is so much more to learn.
