You are truly a source of peace and artistic tranquility for us. I come to you when I need to close my mind and just paint. No plans. No perfection. Just gentle, art therapy. You give that us... well, to me at least. And my art is very rendered, lots of drawing and fussing. I get to let go when I arrive to your channel. Thank You.... i will always stand by my words that we are very lucky to have you. Just wanted to add that all i use is Meeden paper. I love it and use it for everything!
I agree with Posie 100%. She said it well. We do appreciate and love you, Diane. I'm glad you talk about paper! I'm learning a lot. What a fun idea to paint the pictures side by side. It was interesting to watch. I got a block of Meeden paper for my birthday last week and immediately did the Alberta Wild Rose painting on it. It's lovely.
I agree with Posie. May she rest in peace. I SO needed your calming voice today. I love all your videos. You were the first person that inspired me to start watercolor painting and it was just a year ago. Someday I hope to be as great an artist as you. It always amazes me how easily you put paint on a page and it comes out looking amazing. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
I just love your honest chatting about life and especially love your care of animals. My art teacher always wants us to use Arches paper but I’ve tried Meeden and other 100% cotton paper with good success. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing me you don’t need to be perfect. I always over think a painting to the degree that I can’t get started. I’m trying to loosen up and just enjoy the colors and shapes.
I don’t know how many paintings I started and then was disappointed with because I’d set the bar too high for myself to jump over. It was only when I got the Kuretake set of paints that I suddenly realised I could literally enjoy painting without needing to achieve a specific thing. My own channel has been the way for me to finally find fulfilment in painting. Isn’t that ironic!
I miss Posie terribly and think of her often. I like to go to her posts in this group and look at all of her delightful paintings often. It gives me a feeling of comfort. Her paintings about the little girl was going to be made into a book and I hope her family can pull this together and get it in print. Oh about finding our style…who knows if we will ever do that! And what if we do or don’t, it makes no difference. I like to paint in several different styles! Since none of us see each other face to face and spend time at the kitchen table over coffee, we don’t know what is deep within their minds and souls. We don’t know their dreams or goals in life as an artist so how can we tell a person what their painting style should be! Thanks for sharing your thoughts today and for giving us another lovely painting or two to enjoy. Inspiration hit me big time today! Poor kitty cat…he has a roaming eye and wants to be king of the property like a 1,000 pound roaring lion! From lizards to rabbits, he think he can conquer them all. Home sweet home kitty, be safe in your yard and be nice to your Mom, she is protecting you from yourself! I love Meeden 100% cotton paper. I know I can make adjustments-scrub, lift, spray with water, blot, whatever and it will hold up. I have not found any fault with it and it is affordable for my good paintings. Being on RU-vid is a means of making money for your efforts and talents. It is a different way of making a living than working retail, a desk job or building a house but it is work and it is hard work. If you build a house you tell people about it because you must get paid for the job you have done and you have to sell that house. It is all an honorable way to provide for a family. A reminder to like or give a thumbs up, comment etc to generate income is no different than a builder telling people about that house so it can be sold.
Thanks so much for your lovely long message Gail. I really appreciate you giving such thoughtful input. It’s funny about the reward for working online thing. I suppose people have been trained to think of RU-vid as a free service and don’t always get the work that goes on behind the scenes. But thanks so much for your support!
Posie nailed it. And.. Of course you should be paid! Meeden appears to be a great fit for you. We certainly appreciate your educating us about products. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks Gloria, I’m happy to recommend things I use and enjoy and especially to know that so many people are getting such a lot out of it. So glad you are enjoying the videos !!
I love you, the “real” Diane with whatever all that includes. I stopped watching anyone else because I was constantly overwhelmed with things I couldn’t even comprehend. (what? I’m supposed to have a style now? Oh no 😬 It took me all day to talk myself into being allowed to paint, and now I need a style? 😂) I too am not a young woman, been through some stuff, battle pain every minute and love just coming to sit and visit with you whether I manage to put paint to paper or not. Don’t ever change, dear friend. I would miss “you” too, too much. Isn’t the internet a strange place. You don’t even know me, but I count you as a very important friend. Sending my love always, Karen. ❤️edited for spelling. Silly tremor does wacky things with or without Spellcheck. 😂
Hi Karen and thanks so much for your kind comments. I’m so glad you enjoy our channel just the way it is and love to think that you’re sitting there watching. I know sometimes I say undiplomatic things but that’s me and I don’t mean any harm by it! Sending love to you and best wishes for your health xxx Diane xxx
Good morning from Thousand Palms. How funny! I was just thinking of sweet Posie the other day. And how odd that I miss her since I didn’t know her. But she was such a wonderful talented lady. I miss her paintings.
Agree with Posie. (You remind me of my mother’s steady strong loving hand - and hand isn’t necessarily your hand. Thank you! (And I never knew RU-vid had so much to offer!)
I agree with what you said about Meeden! I can’t imagine I will ever need a different paper! I’m so glad this company is good TO you as well as good FOR us!
Diane, I have learned so much from you. Most importantly, to relax and just paint. I used to be very structured and focused on realism. I feel I’ve grown so much as an artist. Thank you for all that you do, comparison of materials, sharing your thoughts and experiences, and the sounds of the animals in the background. I remember the time you had to stop painting to go rescue a sheep who got stuck in the fence. It is always such a delight to spend time with you. I never miss a post. 😊
I've loved the Meeden paper - thanks for your recommendations, Diane. Just wanted to mention that, as an additional saving, I buy the Baohong 10 X 15 block of cold press 100% cotton from Meeden - it's twice the size of the 10 X 7 Meeden block for $6 less, with the added advantage that I can cut the sheets to larger or smaller sizes as needed.
I just checked the Meeden website for price - Baohong 15x10" is $34.95, Meeden 7x10" is $18.95 (or $37.90 for 2 to get equivalent amount of paper), so just shy of #$3 saving currently. And then there's the Diane10 discount - yay:)@@DianeAntoneStudio
„Everybody looks like a panda in the 60s / 70s.“ So true 😊 … love your excursions to all the topics you mentioned in your videos (sorry for my English, I am German). Thank you for all the videos. I learnt so much. 🙏🙋🏻♀️
Thankyou Diane you have been a blessing to me i have depression and anxiety and a 2x cancer survivor. Your art and instruction and spirit helps me get through day to day. Blessings over and over. Thankyou again.
Thanks so much Jean for your appreciation and I’m so glad to have been some support for you. Sending you love prayers and best wishes for everything in your life xxx
Agree. It’s insightful, funny and unique. Very unique in a wonderful way - the farm, trees in her backyard, animals, funny family/hubby anecdotes. A refreshing voice amidst the clutter.
Posie - I loved her drawings/watercolors so much. She was delightful in her posts on FB. As for the people that resent RU-vidrs for getting $ for their content or for affiliations - I don't think they realize what it costs to put content on RU-vid. The special lighting, cameras, your materials, all the editing. I will gladly support you for sharing your knowledge with us. Thank you for all that you and Tamsin do for your RU-vid community.
Thank you so much Anne, we both so much appreciate your support and constant presence here on the RU-vid. So glad you are here and enjoying the videos xxx Diane xxx
This was a great experiment and lesson and the bright flowers are definitely cheerful. It was interesting that you talked about a friend who had passed away. Today’s a year anniversary of the death of one of my good friends, who died “youngish” after years of dealing with MS. It’s amazing what so many people go through and how strong and resilient they can be. It’s good to remember them and to live each day with a positive outlook. Thanks for sharing your opinions and talents with us. You do treat us like friends and that’s always such a treat!
Thanks so much Ann for your thoughtful words. Yes, some people really get the mucky end of the stick, don’t they and yet they often rise above it in such impressive ways. Sorry to hear about your friend. I’m so glad you enjoy the channel xxx
Well, now I can fall asleep. You make the morning and the evening more peaceful and inspiring!!! I know it takes so much to do these videos but you are so appreciated!!! So, sorry for the loss of your friend, but her words were perfect!! Sending all my best juju!!!
I don’t resent money, Patreon, sponsorships, ads. YT is a job and creators like you provide me wonderful entertainment and/or lessons and you should Absolutely be paid for it.❤️ People who complain don’t have a clue that YT is a job and why should creators provide it for free? As long as creators are honest with their sponsorships I am fine. And creators like you , frugalcrafter or Jen Luvs, are honest.🙏🏽❤️ I bit the Kuretake bullet after you have appreciated it for ages. So glad I bought the art nouveau set. Now I am going to buy Viviva colour sheets. 😛 thank you for the link.
Has Oreo been neutered? If not that will help stop the fighting. If he has, I don't have an answer. Love your teaching and stories. I'm always amazed at how quickly you finish a project. ❤
Yes, he’s been neutered for years and never used to fight. I think it must be a new neighbourhood cat who is invading his territory! Thanks so much for enjoying our work!
I am learning so very much from you. I tried water color last week and didn't like how it was going. I stopped to take a breath. Then I found your long videos. What a blessing. I have learned a ton already in a few days. I got a sketchbook and have been doing your whimsical animals, birds and flowers. What a fun way to learn. Thank you. I am 71 and turning into Granny Moses. 😂😂😂 (I wish.)
Hi Diane! I so enjoyed this video!!! I love the comparison of the different paper and the colors are so cheerful and fun. I have issues with my fingers going to sleep and doc said it was carpal tunnel syndrome...so I wear braces on my hands at night when I sleep...it helps. I don't know if it would help your numbness or not. I think some cats are just more aggressive than others...Emily Rose is a little bit prone to bite sometimes, but at the same time she is so sweet and lets me hold her and carry her on my shoulder. She has a different personality and dumps almost every water bowl over...funny girl! I love to hear you talk and I enjoyed watching you paint relaxing things and visit while you talk. I remember sweet Posie too, and all the very cute paintings she did of the little girl in pink coveralls, often with kittens. She expressed herself so well about you and I agree. We should remember not to take ourselves too seriously (good reminder for me). xxx ❤
I’m not sure what exactly causes my pins and needles but I’ve always blamed the operation as it started after that (in 1997!) But it could be carpal tunnel - I do have a trigger finger on that hand too. But I don’t trust doctors and don’t want anyone to touch my hands all the time they work and don’t really hurt I’m good!
@@DianeAntoneStudio I know what you mean. Where we live, we have to see nurse practitioners and physicians assistants much more than doctors now. (medical care has changed a lot here) It seems you have to have something very serious to see a doctor, (unless it's your yearly Medicare physical). That's okay with me! Like you...I'm good! AND I'm so glad you are too! Thank you friend Diane! :)
Hello Diane. Today is the first day that I've come across your channel. You have inspired me to try my hand at watercolor. I've recently been doing some adult coloring with pencils and watercolor pencils, and I thought it's time to muster up the courage and start drawing my own designs instead of coloring in someone else's. Watercolor paints may just be that step. I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos and can watch you paint and accentuate with lines for hours! Also, like you, one of my favorite things about getting older is the fact that I don't have to be bothered with applying makeup every day. I count that as a true blessing. I'd much rather paint canvas than my face. 😆🙏 Keep creating and uploading your videos and I'll keep watching. Your creations are beautiful. Thank you. Sincerely, Ruth ♥👍
Style! I don’t know that I have a particular style; I seem to try a bit of this &bit of that. I enjoy different colors, different subjects, sometimes different paints. Often silly things, sometimes not. I just try to create whatever feels good and makes me smile each day. Thank you for your goodness and guidance. Love watching and listening to you. ❤
That sounds like me - and there are stretches of time when you paint more consistently in a particular way, the only thing I’d say is to make sure that if you use other people’s work for inspiration that you inject it with plenty of yourself - and that’s what I’m sure you do. So glad you enjoy the channel - I try to keep it real!
I love your long videos. A lot of time I paint right along with you or on my own project and I find I’m very relaxed listening to you carry on. I love your insight that you offer and I find your personality very refreshing. This is the oldest I’ve ever been (I’m 75…yikes!) nor will I be any younger! Being retired, I do what I want and when I want. I enjoy not getting out of my pajamas some days and literally paint all day! I’m inspired by your go with the flow concept and your honesty about our craft when things go goofy! Keep up the lovely art you do and I do love your cat 🐈 as I have one also! ❤️👏❤️👏❤️
Hi Sharon and thanks so much for your lovely comments! I know how you feel about doing your own thing, as I often say, if not now, then when? And we don’t need anyone telling us what or how to do things, do we! Glad you have a cat, everyone needs at least one, we have five, which is probably too many but I can’t resist a kitten! Hope to keep this up for many years yet! Take care, Diane x
With pictures like these, speaking of loose watercolor, I find some ink gives them some 'pep'. I'm so sad bc of Catherine too. Wish her the best and also hope she'll recover. I'm soooo glad you had a good outcome 🥂🍀. I enjoy your work and teaching. Wishing everyone a good week 💜✨️
I am happy to have you make whatever you make on any purchase I make! I feel the opposite attitude is petty and small minded. That’s my thought. Keep it up, Diane!
I've just stumbled upon your channel. I don't actually paint at all. Not my craft of choice but I really enjoy watching you paint while I do my own crafting. Thanks!
I always enjoy watching your videos. I not only learn something new, but to hear the stories you share are so incredibly inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing the comment from Posie, I cried as it really touched my heart. I always find myself much more relaxed and want to get right on to painting. All the best to you always. Much love -- Sundie
Thank you so much Sundie, sorry the message from Posie was a bit too heart wrenching, but it just popped up and I felt I needed to share it. Thanks so much for all your support over the years, much appreciated xxx Diane xxx
I love using cotton paper. I use a lot of wet in wet techniques. I didn’t know that you are a breast cancer survivor. Two years ago I was diagnosed. I had radiation and a partial mastectomy. In December I found another lump and sure enough it is cancer. Three weeks ago I had a double mastectomy. That’s why I haven’t been as active on here. Healing has been slow and hard.
I just love the way you say what you think."How dare they tell you what to do with your art?" THAT WAS GREAT!! 😂 I am one of your biggest fans (usually just quiet and respectful) , and i want to thank you as well for teaching me to paint loosely and relax when painting. I am by nature stressed and always trying to please everyone and working my butt off to make everything perfect. So its nice to let go and let the painting develop gradually. I'm finallyvpainting outside the lines!! Woo hoo! 😂
Hi and thanks so much for your kind words and thoughtful comments! I am so glad you enjoy the videos and that they have helped you to relax. I know exactly what you mean and you aren’t alone in feeling things need to be perfect. Perfectly imperfect is actually more achievable! So glad you decided to share how you felt about my comment - helps me greatly to know that!
Looks like both papers are winners ❤I really love the colors you used and inspire me to give it a try. I really enjoy your videos and have learned so much from all of the artists and appreciate everyone of you. Keep sharing your wonderful talent for us we would certainly be lost without your help.😊
What a fun exploration of the papers! It seemed to me like some colours were brighter on the Bockingford, some on the Meeden. Definitely the painting benefitted from the line work - the sticky-out bits and all that.
I dont think that you should have to apologize for > sharing myriad wonderful painting videos. Supporting art therapy, and a company that sounds wonderful..and i think most of us get it. I appreciate your channel and videos. Im extremely poor but i also like to be informed about different qualities and papers available. Paper is One art supply that i believe actually makes a Difference .
I have recently subscribed and I thoroughly enjoyed this 🎉 I have the Viviva Spring color palette and I have yet to use it 😂 It's late at night here in California but I am going to give them a go tomorrow. Love your freedom 💗 I'm a cancer survivor as well, 33 years and now facing a possible recurrence. It's a terrible thing and you ought to talk about it as you wish! You are still here, and so am I!🎉🎉🎉
Hi Terrie and thanks so much for your kind message and your subscription! I hope you enjoy many more of our videos! Wishing you the best of health, with love, Diane xxx
For the first time, I didn't paint along with you tonight. Over the past months, you have taught me that I can do it by myself with confidence. Instead, I simply sat and enjoyed listening to you while you painted. The weather is bleak and wintry here, with nearly a foot of snow having fallen since last week, and I've been going a bit stir crazy. My poor old dog slips and slides in the wet, and I always hold my breath until she gets back inside safely. It was lovely to just sit with you tonight, enjoy a cup of hot tea with my pup snugly at my feet, and let the snowy wind blow. Thank you.
Hi Laurie and thanks for your lovely special comment. I can see your situation exactly. SNOW?????? And I’m complaining about the rain, which won’t let up, and the wind, which frightens me now after the hurricane - hope your dog is okay - I have a silly female who is now 8 but acts like 2 and is always getting into trouble. Good point Oriel makes there, he certainly looked as if he was trying to tell me something - that must have been it!!!!
@@DianeAntoneStudioLucy (my 14 1/2 year old Weimaraner) is doing fine for now. She wears boots on her hind feet, so she can keep her grip on our hardwood floors. When she goes outside, they fill up with snow and it makes her a bit grumpy. We go one day at a time with those old bones. The sun looks like it's going to shine today, and at least snow reflects the light, unlike soggy gray days that you're getting. So... all bleak things come to and end eventually!
It’s really strange weather, one minute spring is trying to break through, the next it’s like mid-January with storms and hail and snow … we brought our pots of tulips indoors so they could survive the 80mph winds we had the day before yesterday and of course now they are feeling overheated - you can’t win! Now we have another damaged animal - another cat, this time with a swollen foot, as if he has fallen out of a tree or something. Sigh!
@@DianeAntoneStudioI'm starting to see patches of grass through the melting snow. Hopefully the rain that is forecast will get rid of all of it! The long term forecast is telling us we'll have temps up near 60 (~15 deg C), a week from now, so I have hope!
I love this. This would be a great exercise for me in letting go. I always think it is just not quite right. I definitely going to try this. And I always love it with outlines. The contrast is much better en a crocket line or dots always makes it better. Love this will try soon in my sketchbook.
You are a very wise woman Diane ~ I would love to hang out with you 😊 I have neuropathy in hands and feet from chemotherapy! I too had breast cancer (2b) Double mastectomy! I haven't bought bras for years now lol! I don't regret my decision other than the chemo and tamoxifen I had to take 5 years after. It really did some damage. But, it could've been worse, so with that I feel blessed! Some women are in wheelchairs ya know. It's been 14 years now since that journey! I'm still standing! Amen I'm glad I was led to your channel! Thank you for sharing your talent and I love listening to your chat 😊 I have a question....What is your opinion on the best quin gold paint ? What do I see you use? I love your paintings! I've painted with you~ ❤️✝️🙏🏻
Oh, you’ve had a hard journey. We have to find so much courage to deal with these things, don’t we. I know how lucky I am to be relatively healthy - my main issue has been allergies and panic attacks over the years but we have worked out ways to deal with it and reduce them. Still standing thank goodness ! Best Quinacridone Gold I would say is Winsor and Newton in my opinion - but I haven’t tried Daniel Smith so can’t say. I have Schmincke but don’t really like it, and definitely don’t like the Rosa I have. So soon I’ll be buying a new W&N tube. Sending love, Diane xxxxx
@@DianeAntoneStudio , I can relate to panic attacks! I've been on medication for that for too long! My doctor and I been tapering me down on the chonazepam! It's gonna take time. It's very a very bad Rx! ALL the benzos are!!!! Doctor said I have 50% chance of getting dementia because I had been on this for so long! And again, it's really hard to get off them due to the side effects that come with withdrawals! Thanks for your opinion on the quin gold paint Diane! God bless ❤️✝️🙏🏻
Hi Diane, you don’t know it but I consider you a neighbor if though I live in South Carolina! I have learned to relax when I am painting, listening to chat while you paint is great company for me. I love your animals, my husband was bedridden and I had health problems, I lived on our farm in Iowa and I just keep it up by myself. My horses and all my animals had to go, my son moved me to SC 26:22 where I don’t know a soul and had to buy a house in a development. I haven’t had neighbors in 50 years so it was a shock. My husband passed so it is just my dogs and cats and me. I turn on You Tube and tune in to you. You are my age and have the same memories so it is like visiting and learning from a friend. Thank you for the joy you bring.
Hi Virginia and thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your story. It must have been hard for you to part with those animals, and to move to a strange place. If our channel can bring some comfort that’s very good to know and gives me the impetus I need to keep on creating. I don’t know where I would have ended up mentally without the channel and you lovely women out there joining me on the journey. We keep each other positive and creative - thank God for that! Take care, love, Diane xxxx
That’s hilarious about your cat. I laughed imagining him getting into a tough scrape immediately on his last outing. I think he genuinely tries to be top cat, and poor boy just needs to hunker down and keep out of trouble. Loved the video, you inspired me to use my pen on my paintings awhile ago and I do not regret it one bit. ❤
Yes, he’s a little perisher! He yells to be let out all the time and my husband feeds him every time he yells, so he’s going to add obesity to his sins!
Oh dear I laughed so much! Just loved the bit about artists telling {us} the audience ...exactly what you said Love it and love your channel and the easy flow of things. Thank you for everything. And yes, wedo have a right tp feel sad..or happy or ..love and hugs from India
With you right there. I am 💯 Kate M fan. I was so sad that I didn’t even want to read up on what her health scare was. But now I am kind of relieved in a weird way it’s breast cancer because everyone I know who has had it has gone on to live long healthy amazing lives. One got her pilots license , the other ran a marathon , other a crazy yoga lady 🤣. Age range 30s, early 50s and 60s.. ❤️
Diane, is there a easy rule of thumb to know when you should use cold press as opposed to hot press as opposed to the heavy textured paper? I mostly use cold press right now because it seems to do the job for anything that I'm trying to paint but I am curious why you would use the others and especially the heavy ones.
I think hot press works better for fine line work. I believe that type paper dries faster than cold press, not 100% sure about it so I can be corrected if needed. I just prefer cold press for my work and my pad of hot press paper sits hidden in a cabinet.
Hi Debra, yes, there is a rule of thumb for this. Let’s say that cold pressed paper is the basic bread and butter paper, which can be used for all kinds of watercolor painting. It comes in different weights, which means different stiffnesses, and different brands have different textures. It’s up to you to decide after trying many sorts of cold pressed paper which ones you prefer. Most people use 140lb weight because it’s thick enough to use for most things. Some people like the 300lb paper, which is like cardboard thickness, but it’s expensive and hard to manage. 980lb is thinner and not necessarily much cheaper. So that’s the COLD pressed paper. Now, HOT pressed is the same in that it has different weights available. With the same limitations. But it is always much smoother than cold pressed. It is useful if you like to paint in detail, with small brushes. It’s used for botanical art for example. And for detailed architectural drawings. Some types are smoother than others. I like to use it sometimes just because the paint acts differently when you paint loosely on it - it tends to pool more and create different patterns to when you use cold pressed. Also, it takes pen and ink really well, so it’s nice for embellishing with marks made by pen. White pens for example struggle on cold pressed paper. Then there are ROUGH papers - again the different weights. This is most likely to be used for landscape paintings or florals where the artist wants a spontaneous effect with lots of texture and dry brush effect for example. I don’t use it very often, and when I do it’s usually for a larger painting. But it can be used to good effect for smaller ones too. I hope this helps, have fun exploring!
@@DianeAntoneStudio Thank you so much Diane. That is the most logical and easy to understand explanation I've ever seen and clears up ALL the questions I've had rumbling around in my head! I've always understood that 100% cotton is best but the weights and textures have been so confusing. I really love your channel and recommend you to all the newbies that I come across. thank you so much for just being you and giving us a great place to come relax and hang out!!
❓Do you use warm heat from your hair dryer? And, how long do you usually need to dry for? 💜Thank you so much for these tutorials. Ive done 2 today! helping me through severe and deep grief!
Yes, I do, sometimes even hot, if I’m in a hurry! It only takes a few minutes, to make it touch dry. I shouldn’t recommend it as regular practice for artists, but when I’m filming I need to get on with it so I cut corners and use the hair dryer! Sorry to hear about your sadness and I hope you soon feel better xxx
So sorry for your loss....truly! I know what that is like. So good that we have our hobbies to turn to for a bit of therapy....the distraction of it all.
Oh Diane, you and Tamsin are so right! We all develop our own style naturally. It's like the way we dress, the colours we prefer etc! My other grief at the moment is that I want to get into art journaling and collage etc, but some of the videos are infuriating! The presenters seem to love their own hands so much that they have to put them all over the pages and techniques I want to look at 😂. I should laugh really, but at the time all these flapping and sweeping hands continually stroking pages drives me insane 🤨😅. I have to just listen instead of watch. Sorry about the moan. I painted along with you on this and loved every minute of it - such a joy to watch😍
Hi and thanks so much for your funny comment! I’m so glad we agree about these things! The hyperactive hands drive me nuts too and many is the video I have had to stop watching because they make me feel queasy with all that flapping and tapping … and don’t get me started on the ugly nail jobs. I have nothing against nail varnish (although I’ve never worn it myself) but I find the ugly colors they use nowadays quite distracting from the art or craft they are displaying. My own hands are very far from beautiful and I try to keep them in the background as much as possible - just do your job and keep quiet! Thanks again for enjoying our videos, I’m so glad you found us!
It is sad that people have resentment when good things happen for others. I experienced that first-hand. My parents sold me their old Lincoln years ago. It was still beautiful and I was happy to have it. One of my coworkers was acting strange, even angry. I asked the others what was wrong with her. They said she hates it when something good happens for others. That was so foreign to me. As you can imagine, she was an unhappy, miserable human. All that to say that I'm happy if you can prosper in any way from doing what you love.
Yes, that’s one of these: Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens amzn.to/3QIcn2N I buy sets of two or three as they come in hard and soft nibs, as well as grey nowadays. I prefer the soft for my paintings.
Bises mon amie a bientot
I was going to buy Meeden watercolour paper from Meeden. I made an account, I found the paper and put it in the cart. BUT they don’t ship to Denmark. Nor do Amazon! So I’m stuck with buying expensive Arches paper. Do you have any ideas for us in Northern Europe?
Ah, that’s annoying. A couple of thoughts. You in Denmark can order from amazon.co.uk and they have Meeden paper, and if you buy a few at a time the postage isn’t so terrible - it’s 10 euros for 1 pad of paper, but 12 euros for 5 pads of paper, so some people might like that option. On the other hand, there are lots of other papers similar to Meeden which you can buy by mail order in Europe. I would have thought Geant des Beaux Arts who have a huge range would send to you, and I’m sure that Jacksons in the UK also ship to Denmark and they have lots of good papers - you needn’t use Arches. I like Hahnemuhle and Fabriano as well - Fabriano have one called 50:50 which is very nice, and Hahnemuhle have some unusual fibres in their papers, like Bamboo, which is fun. Just a few thoughts…
@@DianeAntoneStudio thank you for answering, Diane. I won’t blame you for the VAT, fees and customs duties we need to pay when ordering from the UK. I will continue buying my paper in DK and amazon in Germany. It won’t stop me from painting and being one of your devoted Patreons. ❤️ you are doing an amazing job!
You were talking about your hand how you're having trouble at times. A friend of mine is right handed but plays bowling and bocce with her left because of a problem with her right arm.
Yes, over the years I have tried to train my left hand to be more useful. When I was young I never used my left hand at all but I decided later that this was a bad idea - just in case - so I use it as much as possible. I don’t think I could paint with it though!
Omg I dislike those titles. What you are doing wrong, why you don’t have a style. Talk about being condescending 🤦🏽♀️. As a young social media consumer I would binge on these types of content - what I was doing wrong and always felt I was not good enough, I had no talent, etc etc. I criticized myself constantly. Now I am at an age where I don’t care what people think but I worry about younger people watching content like this and having the same years of self doubt like I did.
Maybe you misunderstood what the other artists/channels were saying. They weren't speaking to people who have already found their style or a style they enjoy. They are speaking to people who are beginning and exploring and trying to find a style. Heck, I don't know what my style is and I've been doing this for three years. You may have not appreciated their advice, but I bet you the people who are beginners appreciate it. In the same vein, this isn't the first time you have criticized other channels for their videos/opinions. To each their own, I say. The title of the videos clearly stated what the video was about, so already having your own style, I imagine the only reason you watched was so you could say that they are wrong, in your opinion. Gosh, I think you have even done videos about finding your style ... haven't you? I could be wrong. I've been watching for a very long time, since your first video. Personally, if I don't like what a channel is talking about or their style of painting, I just don't watch the video. I hope you don't go down that road of criticizing other channels. It's tacky and makes you come off as though you think you are better than they are. C'mon, Diane! Live and let live, right?! I know the channels you're talking about, and I enjoy both of them, as well as I enjoy yours. Sorry if this comes off as harsh, but I don't like to hear one channel trashing another. RU-vid is big enough for all of you! I'm sorry for the passing of your friend. It sounds like she was a lovely and interesting lady with a great attitude. I hope she's happily painting in heaven! Thank you for the demo. I have been enjoying the Meeden paper. I haven't tried the other one.
Thanks for your comment Renee. I think I spend most of my time online and off “living and let living” and maybe it would be permissible for me to occasionally express an opinion on whether or not a relatively inexperienced woman with an influential channel might be treating everyone who happens to be presented with her content (I don’t go looking for her) to the same set of standards as she applies to herself. Personally I think that everyone has a personal “style” automatically the minute they pick up a pencil and in my opinion even saying that it is necessary to “find your style” implies heaps of pressure being placed on people who are - if they are watching my channel - most definitely NOT planning to earn money from their art or even exhibit or share it in public. I am speaking to those who I know make up the vast majority of my listening people - women well past retirement age, often in less than perfect health, looking to relax and have fun. Not looking to develop a style. I was kind of half joking in my British way and in any case I am not going to modify the way I think in order to fall in line with the current way of thinking. If we can’t have a laugh and a joke about the daft things we all say on RU-vid - and there’s plenty of daft things being said by all of us, me included - then I’d like to know what the point is. I don’t think I’m “better” than anyone else, but I do think I have a right to express my mildly critical opinion on my own channel. Have you listened to the things Kristy Rice and Lindsay Weirich have been saying about each other recently? By comparison my little dig is peanuts. Glad you enjoy the channel. I hope you continue to watch and enjoy xxx
@@DianeAntoneStudio Ugh, Yes, I have heard what they have said about each other and have stopped watching both of them because it's petty and ridiculous. I come to watch people paint, not fight. This world is full of people fighting. I love you, Diane, and I love your channel. I'm also retirement age and have my own health issues (mostly unbearable pain), so I get it. I guess the comment hit me the wrong way today. As I finished listening to the end and got to the story about your cat ... I just have to tell you our latest cat-astrophe. We have three cats, two are Maine coons (none of them go outside because a few years ago, two cats were killed by predators, but anyway...) A few weeks ago we had to have the company we bought our living room furniture come fix one of the recliners that had something wrong with it. Our male MC is a hider whenever anyone comes to the house. Long story short ... he was hiding under the recliner when my husband sat and pushed the button to show the tech the sound it was making. But the sound that came out was my screeching cat as his beautiful bushy tail got caught up in the mechanism under the recliner. Reversing it to "unwind" him only made it worse. He was STUCK. He was stuck for about 10 minutes while my husband was cutting away at the caught hair layer by layer with a knife. About 3 inches of the end of his tail was cut off. OMG. When he got freed, he went and hid somewhere and we couldn't find him until he came out for dinner. The end of his tail looked okay, but he was bleeding from higher up. Now, it being a Saturday and after hours, we had to take him to the emergency vet, that costs $190 just to be seen. We had to wait FIVE HOURS in the waiting room because the vets were in surgery. They gave us an estimate of the cost $1,200 which we had to pay and then leave him there for surgery. They said they would call when he was done ... at 2 a.m. The ended up having to amputate most of his tail because there was a deep laceration higher up. He has about a 3" tail now. His tail used to be 11" and very bushy and now he has a little shaved stub. And to add insult to injury ... the cost was $1,600, the $1,200 was a deposit. Ugh, shoot me! The stitches are out and his hair is growing back and he's none the worse for wear. I think I'm more upset than he is. I wish I could send you a before and after pic. He's quite the sight!
OMG what a terrible thing to happen !!!! We have chairs like that and also a cat who loves to hide beneath things, so thanks so much for sharing that as it’s a great warning to us to be really careful when we move the chair mechanism. So sorry about your poor boy, what an absolute nightmare and I’m so glad he’s doing well now. Vets are so expensive these days aren’t they. I’m going to share this story with my husband, whose favorite cat often runs beneath his chair. I’m sure he’s never thought of the danger of using the mechanism without first checking where MaoMao is! And as for the art comments etc, the lady who remarked on here on the same subject saying “You do yours, and I’ll do mine!” is right - when you get to our age to be told how to do anything is a bit of a trial, isn’t it! I came across a very nice new RU-vid artist today, a chap who has been teaching art for 23 years and he’s really funny - take a look (he’s not at all up his own …..) here’s his channel youtube.com/@prof_nelson you might enjoy him!
@@DianeAntoneStudio I'll check him out! I have a channel that I haven't put anything on in a few years, when I put aside alcohol ink and started playing with watercolor. I didn't feel like I knew enough to do tutorials, and I still don't. But I might do demos, swatching, etc. I don't know. Definitely warn everyone about cats v. recliners! The vet said it's pretty common. WHAT?! I have had cats for over 50 years and never had this happen. It was horrifying, especially when my husband pulled the piece of his tail out from the runner and put it in my hand and I realized what it was. OMG. I actually put it in a bag and took it to the vet. I don't know what I was thinking LOL, like they were going to reattach it or something. And then I was thinking, it's not so bad. It's just a few inches. His tail is still long. Then they took another 6 inches. There are pics and videos of him on my FB page if you want to see him.
@@DianeAntoneStudio My two cents worth: I like to think about learning (anything) as exploratory, so I would expect one's 'style' to be fluid and evolving, rather than fixed and waiting to be discovered. Seems clear when one compares early and later videos by YT watercolourists who have been posting for some time. I don't think this necessarily means that they've discovered their 'true style' - rather that they're continuing to grow and diversify their skills. Anyhow, I'm not in pursuit of style - just calm and colour and trying something new, so thanks for creating a channel that allows me to do that, Diane.
