Excellent tutorial, thank you. The wash is very beautiful. Would it be possible for you to do a video on what types of composition work best with this approach please? Looking at your wash, I think straight away of a lighthouse in a storm, but how would I then create that structure on top of the wash? Do you lift colour or would you always ensure the structure is darker tyan the background? Thanks again.
Thank you! There are different ways how to approach this really. Usually, i go with the contrast, so you either place dark object where the white is preserved, or, as you pointed, you pick the dark spot and lift color from there, to create a light object against dark background. I am sure many people could come up with different, creative ways how to create interesting compositions. Usually, when i lift wet color to create a highlight i already have a certain composition in mind, already with sketch on paper. You can ofcourse lift dry colour as well if the paper is good for lifting and you don’t have too many layers on it. I plan to post similar video very soon, very likely this saturday, where i will show how i lift color. And perhaps later on even some videos on how i plan my compositions but that is bit more delicate matter and i would rather not talk about areas where i dont’t yet feel comfortable enough.
@@wearefamilyart Thanks so much for responding, that’s really helpful and I look forward to your next video. I wouldn’t worry too much about discussing composition as an expert - there are a great many art videos where people have far less knowledge, but nevertheless assume expertise :) I’m just interested in how you might personally think about a point of focus. I’ve been painting for a few years but am trying to loosen up my approach without sacrificing realism completely. Many thanks.
@adriennesaracen6525 I must collect my thoughts about this and try to come up with something reasonable. If i had to point out couple of things that i am always working with, it’s contrast, harmony and simplicity, but i have to think about it first. Can’t promise when that will be, but definitely want to talk about it at some point.
