I love how you have so many male characters as your subject. That's sort of rare as a female artist on RU-vid. I'm a beginner, and I tend to stick to male subjects. You've been the biggest inspiration I've found. I also love your color choice, line work, and overall style. Thanks for sharing your journey!

If you want to clean up acrylic paint/acrylic anything, use vegetable oil. Of course you can use your scraper for really old dried paint, but the vegetable oil works for more recent paint. Otherwise, love the painting!

Its fun going back through old videos and seeing how you did things before. I really like the look of painting on top of wood and I think this turned out really nice in the end.

Oh I love the way the wood looks! Beautiful color palette. Have you ever tried Arches Hot Press? That stuff is nearly indestructible. Super smooth but has a tiny grit. Not as much wood though I'm sure ☺️

I hate having to scrape my glass palette so I started taping parchment paper on my palette so when I'm done I just lift it up and throw it out. The other benefit is if I am working on a series I can make note of colors on the paper and save it. Anyway, thought I'd pass on the tip in case you ever wanted to save the trouble of scraping your glass.

Try using toned paper or a brownish board. It helps a lot with getting that opaqueness but keeping the paint thin!

This appeared in my suggested videos, coincidentally on the same day I started a piece on wood, rotated into a 'diamond' format like this. The color palette here is very nice.

Have you experimented with watercolor board, ampersand aquabord, or, (my newfound favorite,) watercolor ground?! You can paint the watercolor ground on pretty much anything, even glass and metal! (Beige, white, black, transparent, gold & silver pearlescent in the Daniel Smith watercolor ground.) 😉

julie d I had to paint on glass for a project once 😂 if you intend to cover the whole thing with paint, I highly suggest putting down a layer of fixative or hairspray or something so you don’t drive yourself nuts. Paint doesn’t like to stick to something without any tooth

Hi. I was looking for gouache paintings on wood and found this video. I'm curious because your supplies link to holbein gouache (which is traditional gouache I think) and I thought you said you used an acrylic gouache. IS this because it is an older video and the supply links changed?

Gouache works on wood? Only because of the gesso? If you put gesso on a canvas would it work on canvas too?
@monicadharma
@monicadharma 4 года назад
Canvas is pre-prepared with gesso so no need to put gesso on it again :p Also I read somewhere that you can use gouache on canvas, but haven't tried that

Wait.... what's the difference between acrylic and acrylic gouache then if the acrylic gouache cant be reactivated? Why not just use acrylic then?
@moon_child16
@moon_child16 6 лет назад
Griffly Art You can actually water down acrylic gouache without having to worry too much about compromising the paint film, unlike with acrylic. (Which can create cracking if too much water is added) Therefore, if you like opaque and translucent elements in your paintings but don’t like how gouache lifts up while layering then acrylic gouache would be the paint to use. :)

I just started painting on wood with gouache. It's a lot of fun, but can be a pain if you water down the gouache too much, then it will bleed in the wood grain
