So you’re not painting over silicone caulk. You are caulking over top of silicone caulk. Yes I’ve done that before. Many times it’s really your only option.Nice video
One of the characteristics of silicone is that NOTHING will stick to it once it dries. The fixes mentioned herein will last for a while if it is totally undisturbed but don't wash it or handle it in any way. It will peel off !!
I had this same issue when I repainted all of my window sills and casing. The paint flaked right off of the existing silicone. My question is, I thought caulking doesn't stick to caulking as a rule? This is why I've always been told either remove it entirely, or prime it before painting. I've never seen someone successfully caulk over caulk and have a good result. What am I missing?
That in my opinion as a misconception, I caulk over top of caulk all the time just make sure that is clean. The rule is you cannot caulk over top of loose caulk
You showed the French side of the caulk tube but I think I found it at Rona. I have hardie board with silicon caulk on it, would it work there? Thanks.
What exterior caulk do you recommend to be painted over by tremclad oil paint. The tight bond weathermaster sealer stuff DOES NOT work at all, it turns all sticky and the oil paint will NOT dry on the surface at all...stays sticky...crap!! I guess one should just stick to latex caulking as oil does not seem to hurt that...??
I actually had a pool deck we just did where the lady's husband filled all the cracks with silicone and I followed the video using shellac primer two coats and they are already calling back saying that it's cracking and flaking off everywhere... SHELLAC PRIMER DOES NOT WORK ON SILICONE..
