Non metallic metal, honestly. But! Looking at references, I’ve noticed it looks great when you have the darkest shadow, a sliver of midtone (tiny), the brightest highlight and then a chunk of midtone on the other side, which transitions to the dark shadow before the pattern repeats.

Maybe I should get it and paint it up :) Are you more interested in a higher quality paint job or more like a speedpainting approach?

@@ph3lansminiatures Just have to appreciate and support seeing how open and welcoming you've always been. The effort is evident, it's one of the better produced vidoes out there and also easy to follow. In terms of high quality vs speedpaint - why not both? Start with speedpainting and if anyone wants to continue - here're the next steps. Then again not sure if you wouldn't use different methods since the beginning so not sure if it's feasible? What I'd be interested in is looking at your high quality standard but without using airbrush which I cannot force myself to utilize due to lack of space mostly. Personally I need to work out NMM, I keep making it look like stone and not steel somehow.Cheers!

Hmm... there are quite a few models in both factions, so I guess it is doable to paint up one of the better-looking models to a higher standard and then speedpaint the rest of the troops. I'll think of something 🤔 NMM is a learning process that never stops in my experience. Stick with it long enough, and you will get better!

@@ph3lansminiatures I would say a mix between time and quality is a good call, just like how you said in this video you didn't do some things like glazing to save time, but still got a really nice looking model. I, personally, would also be interessested in knowing how much time you spent in a paint job so I can calculate if I have to skip even more steps to fit the model to my time frames.

Yeah, this approach is not really viable without the airbrush unfortunately. To be honest, for me, an airbrush is basically a must if you are painting either a lot of models or if you want to strive for higher level paintjobs ( or both) It is way more accessible than it seems, and one of the most fun and useful tools in the hobby.

I was pleasantly surprised as well. Previously, these were only available in the Vallejo paint sets for the different factions.

It is great to hear you enjoyed watching it :) I watch a lot of hobby content myself, and I am not a fan of click bait videos, especially the ones that try to play on people's outrage. So, naturally, I try to stay away from this on my own channel :) I could have used another couple of hours on this paintjob for sure, mostly on correcting mistakes and smoothing out gradients. This would have taken me probably three times the amount of time only a couple of months ago, but one advantage of trying to become better is, that it helps you paint not just prettier but also faster. And you can give up one for the other :) I chose speed over quaility here a bit, but I might try the opposite at some point when my dayjob allows me enough time :D
