Reasonably well ?, I'd say awesome Jon. Especially liked the homemade wash, I just can't quite get the commercial ones to work right yet. On some of my older gets I added copper or gold to bring out the detail even though that was not accurate it popped the engine out. 1/72 engines are though to do but 1/48 are just the right size. I can only imagine the detail obtainable on 1/32 and 1/24 scales. Thanks for sharing, I feel like hitting the work bench. Cheers, Bob

Thanks, Bob! Copper spark plug wires would be a fun (but time-consuming) addition to the engines. But that's outside the scope of this video. I Imagine a 1/32 scale radial should look really good. Cheers!

Salud

Hi Jon. P-47N (and M) did sport the P&W R-2800 "late" (similar to the R-2800 fitted on Vought F4U-4). So, the engine of the Academy kit (for that version of P-47) not only it is poorly detailed, it is wrong. 😊
@jonsmodelkitreview4624
@jonsmodelkitreview4624 5 месяцев назад
You're correct, Giovanni! I will talk about this fact in my Academy P-47N build log that is coming up. I'll even include pictures of what it should look like. Cheers!

I fly RC aircraft - and the stock engines in these kits are not nearly as detailed as yours. But thanks for sharing. I think I can use some of your techniques to enhance my efforts.

Very interesting and good video. My technique is not much different from yours. The main difference is the type of wash I use, being the engine grime wash from AK. I’m currently building the old Airfix 1/24 scale FW 190 and it’s radial engine turned out quite nicely.

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624, I’ll make a video once finished. It’s a nice kit but troubled with some serious warping and big gaps (at least my kit).
@jonsmodelkitreview4624
@jonsmodelkitreview4624 5 месяцев назад
@@natalebabbo-gunplaanddioramas That's common on some older kits (and some newer kits). I haven't built a kit in 1/24 scale yet, other than cars. Cheers!

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624, you may want giving a try on a 1/24 airplane. The newer Airfix 1/24 Spitfire har received good reviews and may not have warping issues. I’m a sucker for vintage kits so I must accept their eventual flaws….

2100 South Australia. Evening Jon & all. Engines are looking good. They will look nice on the finished kits. Engines are quite visible on the Jug. Spent a bit of time on the Polikarpov I-16 engine and exhausts. If you look really, really hard you can just see something in the darkness through the cooling vents! Started on the HB IAR-80 as well now. Cheers Matt 🦘🦘🦘

Very cool, Matt! I have two I-16s on the shelf with the barely-visible engines you mentioned. Was it worth detailing them? At least we're not worried when a flashlight appears. The IAR-80 from HB is one I would love to build! Cheers!

Hello Jon, new subscriber here. Found your channel in my RU-vid Feed and came by to check it out. This video caught my eye because I am currently building the Revell 1/48 scale P-61 Black Widow and was taken back that one engine had much more detail than the other which made painting them to look identical rather difficult. Great video.

Thanks, Ed! I have the same kit in the stash. I didn't realize the molds were different from side to side. I'll check that out. I would love to finish mine in the weathered olive green over gray scheme. Let me know how yours turns out. Cheers!

0710 hours OHIO time…. GOOD MORNING 🌞 I was looking forward to seeing this… I always want to find ways to detail and paint Engines… It’s not difficult, it seems cockpits get the most attention from modelers… I love how the engines you did are all the same…. BUT The level of details changes so drastically… I always watch your videos a number of times… Getting ready to leave for the IPMS Show and TOY FAIR… Not sure what I’m going to find, just going to see everything is FUN… I still have the NICHIMO KATE Torpedo Bomber on deck to build, it has a nice engine to paint and detail… YES, I’m ready to start a NEW Build, just gotta make it happen…. THANKS JON FOR YOUR TIME AND WORK PUTTING THIS CHANNEL TOGETHER You do simplify many phases of model building For me at least !!!!!! Some coffee, and I’m off to BUY MODELS 😊…. Have a great rest of the weekend….. CHRIS 🇺🇸

Spot on Jon! Great tips! Sometimes I will airbrush the base as to avoid pooling paint which can take away some details. But yes, I still use testors too for engines! Thanks
