Just a beautiful tutorial packed with excellent tips. I have saved this to my ‘Favourites’, and watch it again while doing a paint-along. Thank you so much, Crystal.🍁
So beautiful! Thanks for technics! I am amateur to paint by my talent, i never been in any painting school and i have discovered later in my life that i love painting and i started with water colour on simply album paper....and these days i've painted some autumnal portraits and i needed some advices...i see that i need to add those shadows looking so real and more layers of nerves and to paint on textured paper! 🍂🖌️🙏 Thank you! God bless you and your family! ✨🤗💕✨
All the best you you ! Let me know if you have any questions about my art channel. I have tones of videos. Paper is so important. Here’s a blog post all about it. crystalbeshara.com/crystal-beshara/2021/10/5/creating-texture-in-watercolour
This is so kind. I’ve always strived to be clear verbally and visually in my real life workshops. I’m so happy I was able to translate this into video, it’s a challenge but so happy you appreciate this!
@@CrystalBesharaArtist I definitely appreciate it. I'm 68 and just started painting & your instruction is not only valuable for nature but I can see it applying to many aspects of portraits. 👍

Thank you so so so much for making this tutorial Im literally so bad at watercolour and I have a huge assignment on it.. this tutorial saved me and my grades
You know you've nailed it when your painted leaf looks more real than the real one! Great tips. I'm on my second painting ever today ... I'm painting the Autumn leaves themselves and pressing them onto my abstract background.
I’m glad you found this useful! I just released a brand new video all about landscape texture techniques with the fan brush you might be interested in. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-93q_yQ3_4x8.html

Oh my gosh, you are a FANTASTIC teacher! I love how you narrated your thought process as you did painted each thing because knowing how you thought things through will help me to follow your same mind set in knowing what to do and why. I am a complete and total rookie and I can't convey in words how important that is to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much Barb for taking the time to write your comment. This helps me create more tutorials like this and I will keep your feedback in mind. Your work is beautiful, your teaching is clear and understanding . What is the paint brand you recommend? I recently got back into my water coloring ,after several years .I find I need to refurbish my old supplies .
Hi Kathy! Depending on where you live if you can get your hands on Da Vinci watercolors that would be amazing! They are an artist quality line but you get 37 ml instead of five mills which is the typical size for most artist grade paints. They’ll go along way especially if you’re still in the learning phase. Having enough watercolor paint on hand will allow you to freely be creative without hindering you by being overly economical with the paint!
Thanks for sharing I sooo appreciated and enjoyed your video. I do have a question about the colors you were using 🤷♀️the burnt umber +violet ..was that two colors or did you buy them already mixed ? If it’s two colors how do I know how much of each color is needed? That confused me. Thanks again 💌
Hi! Yes this is a favourite combo of mine. Really at any ratio they are beautiful! Uust try the, out with a little more and varying degrees of each on a test paper :) Mine here was sort of a mahogany colour. With paint there is no real way of explaining how much of each...not like baking ingredients unfortunately. That said, I have a super nifty COLOUR CHART KIT you can download that shows you a full range with values listed as well. They have been very popular! crystalbeshara.com/shop-color-recipe-charts
@@CrystalBesharaArtist thank you, when you say violet in this tutorial, are you referring to mauve or is there an additional violet that isn't on that palette in your link?
Actually, mauve by da Vinci paints is more like a dioxazine violet. Not too red. Not too blue. So look for DIOXAZINE violet as a color or for that on your label. It’s the perfect violet.
lovely teaching, but once again as I have experienced in many classes, there begins the word "trace," yikes, even if the leaf isn't the greatest shape, draw your own interpretation.
Feel free to draw your own, but if my video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SIGZ_YmIpBw.html number of views has indicated, not everyone who would like to enjoy learning and exploring new mediums has the skill set to draw. Art making should be accessible to anyone no matter what level they are at. This video is for all levels - if you are more expert, or a keen observer, free hand drawing is ALWAYS an option :)
What an absolutely lovely message ! I kiss in person teaching so much. Thank you for taking the time to write. . I’ll keep creating content like this and be sure to check out my full tutorials list crystalbeshara.com/shopvideos
Even those who know nothing about watercoloring can start painting by watching this tutorial. All the details are well explained. Awesome tutorial ma'am💖
This is so great to hear. I appreciate your comments about the clarity of instruction. I really strive for that and I’m grateful you took the time to share feedback 🙏
This was so informative thank you. The leaves turned out so beautiful. I’m new to watercolor & always struggle with masking fluid. Could you please share what kind of soap to use on the brush prior to using masking fluid? I looked in the description but it just says hard soap & Im not exactly sure what that means. Thank you for your time 😊
Sorry for the late reply! Your message slipped through the cracks. I am using Masters brush cleaning soap but truly any hard bar soap will do avoid using liquid soap and be sure not to apply too much of it to your brush so wiping off excess is an essential step
If possible, I would choose hard soap over liquid soap. You still want to make sure that you’re rinsing your brush every minute or so and then re-soap in to protect your bristles each time. Don’t put too much soap on your brush though because you don’t want to contaminate your masking fluid bottle. Thank you for subscribing! 🙌 Here’s another video all about masking fluid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UFs8E0uTLUA.html

OMGosh I love your tutorial. I have been wanting to learn more about shadows and you explain things very well. Thank you for your time in teaching this tutorial!
That’s awesome! You might really enjoy my very short video tutorial called vanishing Violet. I’m putting the link here for you. I explain shadows even further and this is a pretty magical exercise to do: crystalbeshara.com/shopvideos
That’s a kind and very ASTUTE observation! I’m telling you the big secret is working with transparent pigments. Here’s a link to why they’re so awesome !crystalbeshara.com/crystal-beshara/2022/4/26/fa9siq7jl76sl4nrd3tzowhxcsf0ca
I’m so excited! I just found you… I’m only 5 minutes in & had to comment! Thank you for putting this on RU-vid. These leaves look beautiful. Can’t wait to watch & learn more from you! Thank you!
You teach in a very pleasant, cheerful way which is a great encouragement to belief that success is possible, thank you for sharing what you have learned.
I have just found your channel it was so helpful for a beginner to botanical watercolor. I appreciate your teaching style which you walk through paints to a finished painting. One helpful tip is the amount of a product to apply like masking fluid etc. Thanks
Awesome ! So glad you found this helpful. Yes the masking can be tricky. Protect your brush with soap and be sure to rinse, since, rinse. You do not need much product for it to work. Coat your bristles lightly :)
Hi there! I’m using masters brush cleaner. But honestly any kind of hard soap would do. It’s a great way to use up little slivers of hard soap that you have left or, tiny hotel soaps! I would avoid using liquid soap. And be sure to wipe most of it off of your bristles before dipping into your masking fluid 😊
