THANK YOU! It's rare to find guides for the big monsters where a more natural tone is used. Usually the other artists go for bright, striking, cartoony themes (not a dig on them, just not what I'm looking for). I don't paint gaming pieces, my projects are mostly miniatures of elephants/rhinos/dinosaurs so this guide is a big help. I was looking for a method to get rid of the "plastic toy" look of my finished models - and apparently stippling (with different colors) was the answer I was looking for.👍

Wanted to give a warning for some hive fleet colors. You may need to prime a lighter color instead of black. When I did my Jormungandr this way the yellow took 4 coats to build up. Anything with a tan, green, or yellow I highly suggest using a grey or slightly brighter primer. (I found using a pink primer, works best for yellow and a red for green)

hey man. Thank you so much for this in depth video. I wanted to try something different. Been painting lots of Space Marine-Stuff and Scale Vehicles and it got dull and "uncreative". Bought a few Nids to basicly start fresh with something completly different. That being said I'm not really that kinda dude that just jumps into stuff blindly. So - This for a quick reference on how to get started is just gold for me. This gets me going and then I'll just make stuff up as I go =) Thanks again.

@phoenixminiatureart4193
@phoenixminiatureart4193 2 года назад
Thanks mate, i use Windsor and Newton series 7's which are really durable. If you're struggling though you can always grab some brush cleaner aswell and clean the bushes properly when you're finished with them this will help them keep the point for linger. Although i nearly never do that personally. Not all brushes are created equal so find the ones that are good and work for you.

Fantastic tutorial. Can I ask, what is the GW shade that you used at the end for the finishing touch? Also an issue I am having is my lines are coming out a bit thicker than I would like, I can use a smaller brush but your brush doesn’t seem particularly small. Any suggestions?
@phoenixminiatureart4193
@phoenixminiatureart4193 2 года назад
Hey, thanks very much! yes absolutely use a smaller brush, it comes down to brush control. I paint for an average of 9 hours a day so it comes down to experience. A larger brush means I have more working time as the brush holds more paint. So yeah just go with a smaler brush for now. As for the GW shade I'm using a mix of carrobourg Crimson, Drakenhoof Nightshade and whatever the purple wash is. The idea with this is I am putting a really thin coat of different GW washes to add different tones of colour to the skin to make it more interesting. Hope that is clear.

How would you recommend painting a tyrannofex since the rib cage is all down ward? Would you just do the first darkest layer or would you do the highlights and line towards the edges?
@phoenixminiatureart4193

Any of the areas facing downwards I would keep the range of colours darker. So don't add the last few highlights basically so the underside doesn't stand out

@@phoenixminiatureart4193 I have the feeling that this is a bit of unconventional way to work since you say "it's easy to fall back in the routine of making it look consistent". You recon it might be better to do my first model in a more conventional way with a base coat and pre-shading by airbrush and then just learn try layering / glazing / highlighting / dry brushing?
@phoenixminiatureart4193
@phoenixminiatureart4193 10 месяцев назад
@robinclymans70 depending on the experience level, yes. It's better to run before you can walk. If you try something a bit too advanced compared to your current experience level, it can be very disheartening. Try it on a test model and first and see how you like it.
