Welcome to Phoenix Miniature Art. This channel was created with love for painting beautiful miniatures. Whether that is creating stunning armies, or incredible pieces of art, this is the place for you!! After 10 years of professional painting and teaching, I decided that I wanted to create a hub of knowledge for any hobbyist to be able to come to and learn everything they need to know.
That’s awesome I bought the starter set last year when I got into the hobby and have had one of these captains half painted on my desk for the last month the only thing stopping me from finishing it is the base I might cover up the dead tyranid with miliput to make it better fit the theme for the rest of my army but you’ve made me want to pick up another one off eBay and play around with converting it

Very nice looking. For the eyes I know there not cannon but I've seen someone do Tyranid eyes just black, and then after the whole model got a matt or satin varnish they went back and painted the eyes with a gloss varnish and it just looked creepy. I think that could look very cool and very intimidating for space marines, especially terminators. Alternatively paint them black and then do little white lines(like a reverse purity seal) and then hit them with a very bright(maybe florescent) ink and then finish the eyes with a gloss to make them look like CRT's.
Balancing between readability at a distance and looking good up close has been so difficult to wrap my head around as a new painter. I also don't like using pure black or pure white because what it adds in readability it takes away in terms of realism up close IMHO. But the darker spots inside the biggest scratches sounds like a win win to me. Looking forward to trying out these techniques. Thanks!
Really cannot be understated how lifestyle impacts hand shake. When I was meditating, doing yoga and generally living "well" I had absolutely 0 hand shake, at any time. My nervous system was completely settled. Currently my sleeping pattern is off kilter, too much screen time and my diet is not ideal. Hands shake all the time. Coffee as well, is bad for hand shake (generally).
10:11 by one part pain/one part flow improver/one part water, do you mean equal parts of each? Do you dilute the flow improver at all, or is it straight? Also, what PSI do you use with this mix? Thanks, it came out awesome!
The decals aren't shaded to match the shoulder pauldrons though. They're floating on top of the paint scheme. I don't get why painters don't blend the decals in. Looks proper weird.
Thats a bit of a blanket statement. It's the same reason I didn't do a hundred other things to improve this, I have a set amount of time allocated for getting a result and shading the decal wasn't important. Painters do shade the decals and if this was a higher quality piece, I would have.
This is such a good tuturial. I will use this for mybreat crusades warhounds. Could I request u do a word bearers color scheme tutorial when they were the imperial heralds😢
Great video but I found it difficult to follow the visuals because the white background created so much contrast with the mini that I couldn’t see any detail.
@@phoenixminiatureart4193 And I am actually doing it 😅 I find it hard to notice on the video if you wash the gold all over with the aethermatic blue or something else also. Finally what would you suggest as a replacement for the gold in the Citadel or Valejo range ?
@@ahzekahriman8801 I need to see some finished pics! We go over all the gold with the blue, in hindsight I might do a bit of nuln oil aswell to make it a bit darker. But thats not required. Honestly, I'm not sure what I would recommend, I haven't used either vallejo or GW metalics in so long. Sorry!
I love how you raise things in miniature painting others don't, like holding it arms length. I'm forever over thinking my projects because I'm looking it under microscopic details, when in reality I end doing a lot of extra work you don't need to. White inks can work well with these effects as well.
Nice Video Thx The price difference and the freedom is huge but ... Don't forgot the Money for IPA or other stuff to Clean/Postprocess the Resin Minatures ... The Time to Slice, Fix Missprints, fix printer Problems and so on ... IT is a Hobby in a Hobby 😂 and the digital and Grey pile of shame is awesome 😂
I really like the colour scheme. And tbh, I really prefer these old models (4th and 5th edition). Yes, the proportions could be better, but I like that they’re much more inspired by historical 14th century knights. Does anyone know, weren’t they sculpted by the Perry twins? Would explain the design 😉
