Alan shows you how he rolls a wall with no lines. Do not press on roller. Also PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MY SQUEAKY ROLLER. It's a brand new roller I used once and it's squeaks already. Sorry
I was about to give up but will give this one last try. Love how simple and direct you are...not having to waste 30 minutes listening to someone waste my time. Get to the point, exactly what you epitomized.
i have painted alot of walls in ceilings and this tip for walls is the best tip ever makes an enormous difference to me whatever the color paint thank you very much
I'm in the middle of painting my rental bathroom for the first time. I've watched 5 videos on how to paint for beginners and all the methods effed up my wall 😥 just when I thought about giving up I come across this video, tried it and it's working!! I'm super pumped now!!
Painting bathrooms is my passion and when I broke up w/ you in our past lives I actually am genuinely sorry and would love to take you out to dinner just to see that smile again. Give me a jingle at your convenience girl
The back and forth Ms and Ws, advancing by a bit and finishing back in on itself really worked well for me. Gave me a great wall with no lines. Good vid. Cheers.
Who are the 226 Bozo's who thumbed down this video?!. This guy is an expert. I've been painting for 15 yrs and Alan here just taught me something. Thanks!
Thanks dude! My second coat will be much improved now! Going to work faster, use very light pressure, start in the middle of the wall, and have enough paint on my roller so I don't have to press.
First - I NEVER comment on youtube videos, but your video helped me out sooo much! After watching several other videos and attempting the "W" method they all seem to tout, my walls were continuously jacked up. I just couldn't get it. I was about to give up and shell money out for a professional but decided to give it one more attempt. I came across your video and gave it a go. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sooo helpful and my walls actually look great now! (Had to repaint all of my previous, splotchy attempts).
Agreed! I used the "Capital N" method yesterday and now have to add another coat because of ALL the streaks. I also used too much area for one roll of paint. This time I'll be using this method. Thank you so much!
I just painted over the old paint. This method was superb! (I'm making sure to reply to comments so I can remember this video if ever I have to paint again. 😊 So excellent!)
Watching you do this is giving me so much confidence. I'll be painting my garage walls tomorrow. Love how you move the roller up and down like it's second nature to you. Thank you sir!!!!
Thanks for posting I am all stressed out about painting a room I am not a good painter I always leave lines I hope I do this room perfect it for my girlfriend daughter's room. Thanks for the advice great video ...
I'm painting my studio apartment. My dad passed away last year... he never really taught me anything about painting... After two nights of painting I was wondering what I was doing wrong.. I came to this video and totally figured out what I was doing wrong... Kinda feels like I should send you a Father's Day card
Thank you for the tips. I’ve been trying to paint a dark gray colour on my wall and the lines are bugging me. So my mistake was putting to much force. Thank you
@EL GRINGO LOCO ! I used a sealer and the lines were from my roller. Im finishing off the doors and final coat on the walls todayand then ill probably roll 1 more coat on the ceilings ..just with less pressure and mpre paint. Brand new house and massive ceilings
Many thanks , I always started at (near) the top , and used a little pressure as the roller became less laden !! ... never again ... awesome stuff and thanks :)
That’s how u know you’re paint roll or has put some miles on it! That squeak .. great vid bro thanks I’m a painter and I do remodels also .. some people think they an paint till they see the sheen on it all messed up or all the lines .. this is a great vid bro .. good luck and thanks !
Thank you so very much for sharing your years of experience to help us zero years of experience wannabe painters paint a room perfectly like you do!! What I am confused about though is in two videos I see two highlighted areas near the ceiling approximately 6-8' apart, is this a lighting anomaly or??? Thank you my friend!!
Yep That’s how it’s done all except for the homeowner type roller pan I always use a five gallon bucket that’s how journeyman painters taught me to do it
Nice video thanks for the tips. Another video I watched gave good tips which ended up making my walls look perfect. Overlap by at least 25% on each line, and every 4 lines come back and lay each line off coming down and overlapping by 50%. I didn’t have a stripe since.
Thank you so much! I've been painting with a roller and have been shown the lines in detail by my other half! Thank you, I thought that I would be trapped repainting the same walls until they somehow magically became perfect. Didn't know what to do. Glad I found your video!
Well just finished painting the room and thank you for the first time in my life I have ever painted room without lines. Do you have a paypal account I would like to send you a six pack. God Bless and thanks again ...
Do you water your paint down? I was painting today and if I put a lot of paint on the wall and try to spread it out it starts having this thick wavy bumpy texture that I can't lay out. I had too much paint in an area especially above light switches and stuff and when I tried to take the paint back off, it creates this terrible Textture every time I roll the roller over it. I never put any pressure because it creates lines. So my question is, how do you get rid of the stop marks at the bottom and tops? It looks like you put a lot of pain on for those first two roller with so there's definitely a thick amount at the bottom that will be able to be seen
I mean I’ve literally watched this video 3 times now- and I’m baffled that all these professional painters who are demonstrating great technique and advice, that now feel more geared towards a person who might need that sort of info if this was a hobby or part time job. But for the average person who just wants a little tip on how to get a room done efficiently and quickly, this is by far the best video. It’s simple, to the point, repetition on the few steps you really need to remember and BAM- 6 min and he’s done!
would this work when done as a second coat where I painted like an ametuer over brand new walls and there is uneven sheen/patterns? or do I need to sand or prep anything before painting?
Great video. I noticed some pro painters apply paint and then smooth it out individually one pass at a time from top to bottom. Is there a benefit to that. Does ending it top or bottom affect glare ? I am trying to paint with satin and avoid lines
Thanks for the video sir. I have to paint a room after I clean the walls and have seen the W and this technique and your technique looks evenly spread. Did you use a paint with primer in it or primer first then paint?
When I paint with Satin I get some dry particles of paint on the wall so I have to remove them with my finger...etc. Do you have any tips to avoid this to happen? By the way I like the sheen of Satin but it is hard to paint with a roller without leaving any lines. It looks ok but it's not perfect. Flat paint is a lot easier to paint without lines.
Always work ur way into the wet edge of the paint to not leave a line, which will result in having to sand when dry. And also use a bucket instead of a pan so u can carry it with 1 hand versus having to use both hands to pick up the paint pan.
If you do the trim after you paint the walls, will the trim show up more since you painted the walls first? Awesome video, alwow77. Thanks so much. I enjoyed your video.
Thanks for posting/sharing, not telling you what to do but, go out to your vehicle, pop the hood, pull th dip stick out and put oil on that roller axle, thanks nice video and good tip
Mist coated dried skimmed walls in my hallway then roller painted with a quality trade paint but now its dried, i can see shadows or ghosting lines on the walls. Natural light comes through the glass in the front door. I have then painted horizontally in case of dips in the wall but its still the same. What have i done wrong and can this be fixed.
