@@SOTMead Totally. I find that I paint armies as projects and obviously its longer than painting one model to a high standard. I also do terrain commissions very occasionally and I love them as they're big models but let me experiment and push my painting skills or try new techniques and since its for someone else I want it to be as good as I can do. I do want to paint every day although health issues sometimes interrupt that. I hit a plateau a few years ago and I did a day-class with an AMAZING painter friend which really helped me up my skills too.

@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM 2 года назад
Hi man, welcome back, hope everything is fine! Hahaha yeah I needed a good tip in a couple of steps; oil paint by itself is not really aggressive on natural bristles and many oil painters prefer natural brushes but the solvent can be a problem if you don't take care of the brush after the work. With a good clean with a proper brush soap you can safely use high quality brushes for oils!
@gbo0000
@gbo0000 3 года назад
Amazing as always. I always found "clean" exponentially harder because you can't get away with any technical imperfections, as opposed to grimdark and gritty styles where they can pass as artistic choices.

Tabletop miniatures aside. Is contrast always the end result at any scale? Or is there a scale when reflected light starts to take precedence over the typical color palette choices with hue and value. And at what scale do you feel the model naturally casts its own reflected light. I'm blind in one eye so brush control becomes my hurdle at 32mm, at 72mm I can kind of overcome my depth perception. I'm a year into watching these videos after a couple decades painting on canvas. I'm really enjoying watching this community and I am taking a sincere interest in it.
@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM 3 года назад
You can never really count only on natural light to create the illusion of larger, real life volumes. Even on large scales like 1/6 or the crazily big super heroes statues in 1/4 or 1/2 scale you still need to emphasise a bit lights and shadows to give the idea of something real in its scaled environment
@lawrenceelgrin2205
@lawrenceelgrin2205 3 года назад
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM I appreciate that. I have about 10 Sideshow statues anywhere from 1' foot to 3' feet in height. I noticed some artists push the envelope at that scale with reflected light in shadows. While others not so much. Both work! I actually love the artists who paint these figures. I was just curious on your take in the matter. I can't wait to get my hand on the Joker statue w him holding the switchblade. The face and eyes are ultra-realistic!

I might snag a couple of other colors (I couldn't find the Payne's Gray violet that I was looking for, originally, in lieu of ivory black, for the limited pallette I wanted...), but it's feeling like the run up to Christmas morning, already. Thank you for the excellent lessons, so far, and I hope that going with Zinc White, over the far more familiar Titanium white that I've played with so much in acrylic, wasn't a mistake...
