You can now access the entire Mural Joe library at www.muraljoe.com/members In this video, Joe works with acrylics and shows you how he paints crashing waves, ocean water, sea foam, and what happens with water on a beach!
This is a great example of why I love learning on YT, not only can you find instruction on what you want to do, in this case I was looking for 'painting waves with acrylics', but you can sometimes find someone doing almost exactly what you want to learn. I will be painting a mural of a seascape on a friends fish and chip shop next month, and I think I will actually break out the plastic for the full lesson on this dudes site. So remember: if you are several beers into an evening and are making promises for creative services you are only semi skilled in, always allow for at least a month to procrastinate and 3 days to practice before doing the job.
I'm also a painter and muralist and I have got to tell ya joe, it was a real pleasure watching and listening to you. I kept shaking my head yes as I listened to your bits of wisdom. And it's fun to see your techniques. Very similar to my style. Keep painting, never stop creating!
One of the most important aspects to learning any new skill is the understanding of function and relation to form. This gentleman understands the way waves function. He mentions coral. He describes currents after he describes how light plays a role beneath the waves and how both flow together as he forms what what we see here. It's clear to me that this wisdom aides him the recreation and the reinterpretation of what is arguably much more than a wave. This is a mural created by a young artistic craftsman.
How ,magnificent was this video of you painting these crashing waves, were! You were so “ into” everything you painted. You explained each and everything so well. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
I've watched other artists but keep coming back to this one, he is my hero and I hope to glean from him and create some beautiful artwork like his, someday!
That is absolutely breathtaking. I'm showing my 15 year old daughter how to do ripples as she is nearing her exams. She's done them like snake scales and needs to blend them into the water. Her pictures are amazing. I told her to go on RU-vid to look at tutorials yours is the one I've sent her. It's blown me away. Shame on the 477 miserable people.
I just wanted to thank you for the kind gesture of sharing your amazing talent. It continues to blow me away at how someone of your caliber cares enough about others to turn turn on to what they know. Your painting is Beautiful, spectacular soothing & stimulating at the same time. Again, thank so much! You're a wonderful teacher btw. :)
I have been an artist since I could pick up a crayon and draw on a kitchen wall. As I I've grown up I have worked in all kinds of media's working on portraits and landscapes. I have never been able to paint seascapes. With todays technology I can now see how it's done, and Joe you have inspired me to give it another try at the age of 69. I was in Panama City Beach watching the waves come in and go out during the time hurricane Harvey was hitting Texas, so I was able to film some great wave pattern's, thanks again.
i just start to paint and i love watching your videos you are amazing Artist joe.i like what u said feel free to paint a million wrong paint in join the club
Love how there are layers under layers, like I never though of the artists energy this much and how beautiful this is. Each painting has a story underneath!
You are such a great teacher! I learn so much from every video and I stay up waaaay too late watching them! Thank you for being such a humble, down-to-earth guy and for taking the time to share your incredible talents with the rest of us.
Easier said than done. You're the best teacher I've learned a lot when you explain shadows and the structure of things and all that. You're the only one I can really learn from.
Whew! Your knowledge and training and talent are "just phenomenal!" I am painting a mural now and your water techniques are exactly what I needed. If I didn't live on an island I would attend your workshops : ) I am so happy to have found you! Love your teaching as its "true teaching!" I am like a sponge ...Thank you!
Joe, I have seen some gorgeous paintings and paint myself in oils, but you are the best artist I’ve ever seen. You probably don’t think so, but we’re our worst critic. I’ve watched you off and on, but today I’ve watched for 4or5 hours and I don’t believe anyone can do any better. Awesome work!!!!👍🏻
i was born and raised in Barbados...I paint and trust me sometimes a seemingly calm flat sea can produce a good sized swell right as it breaks on the shore and if you are sitting on the beach it looks bigger than it is!! this artistic value is awesome!!
this was a great video, but you had changed the painting alot and added heaps of details while off camera. i noticed that at least 4 times during the video
Jack Beam The missing steps are probably where we should add your own touches. I'm a beginner here and will use his lesson as a foundation to build upon. Also, I never would have thought to use a roller on a canvas. What a great ocean texture it leaves.
I ended up watching a string of your videos, and was like "God....you gave this guy talent. Lord, this much talent just HAS to glorify You somehow." And then I had an urge to go to your website, which I've never done before with any other RU-vidr, and lo and behold....you're a brother in Christ. Just wanted you to know that these videos led to God being praised tonight. :)
Joe iv been drawing for years but was never to confident to try painting ....I grew up watching Bob Ross and was always amazed by how his paintings would flow ..... a awhile ago I started painting scenes with spray paint and it kinda got me more into murals... but your videos are really helping me understand so much more about all that goes into it....and how to blend with just basic colors...and understanding perspective.and painting water in different ways...... I just wanted to say thank for taking the time to post these videos....you truly an amazing artist!....thanks again.
