Weathering from start to finish!
Hello and welcome to episode 4 in my "Standard Weathering Procedure" series on RU-vid. In this video, we will look at the complete process I used to turn a model in bare plastic finish into a weathering masterpiece.
I hope you enjoy, find the video inspirational, and maybe even learn something new!

DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

Dude out of every tutorial on RU-vid yours are the most detailed and easy to understand as a step by step approach. I appreciate your videos and have watched almost every one.I can't stand other RU-vid that show you but dont talk or they use captions,you really can't learn that way.You have a talent for sure. I'm 57 years old and a complete rookie to scale modeling. Is it me or am I the only one who is intimidated and feels like I will never be this good and my models will never look this good? Great video with so much information packed into just a small amount of time. I hope I'm at least half as good as this man is in a few years.

Hey guys! Let me know if you guys prefer the hour-long weathering tutorial format...I've been wondering if the videos might be more watchable if I were to break it down into shorter segments focusing on each weathering step.
@Tankbrusher
@Tankbrusher 5 лет назад
I do prefer the long format over these short bits and pieces we can find everywhere else. All effects need context to the vehicle, that is what your guides do better than most others and what makes yours extremely valuable.

Hi Panzermeister36. I am coming back to modelling after a very long break and I find your tutorials truly inspirational. The hour-long format is just perfect for me. Others have tried to break up similar tutorials into smaller chunks but personally I prefer your style, and love the continuity of one longer video. Keep up the excellent work.

I've just ordered a bunch of the products you've used, particularly on this model. Since it's a panzer grey, I'm going to do a Dicker Max by Dragon I've had sitting in the box for a while. Seems like a good starting point, with all the surface area. I've been modeling since I'm five, and now I'm sixty and still looking to do it better. Thanks for the inspiration!

Very subtle. I've watched this a couple of times now. great explanations on how to move from a bland base paint to the full weathering which make the colours and the tank more realistic and fore me coming back to the hobby having that varnish coat to seal the acrylic paint before moving to the oil paints - having only used enamel paints when I was a kid as that's all that was available back then.

Great weathering tutorial Evan. My style is very similar to yours and although tanks and various other vehicles never really lasted that long in combat I still like to add chips etc for interest. Great video once again. Although, for your varnishes; while Tamiya makes great products, I would recommend using varnish out of its own spray bottle. I've found that spraying clear coats out of my airbrush does a number on the nozzle, but you can pick up the spray varnishes at Michaels for around $7.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 5 лет назад
+Joe Reen I use Tamiya for the extra durability that comes with their paints thinned with lacquer thinner. Using Tamiya clear and matte is not any more harmful than standard Tamiya paints since they are simply transparent versions of this paint. Other varnishes may be different though.

I only use a 1/72 scale brush for the German tanks, I use Revell 79 and since this grey-blue is lighter, I darken it afterwards.😉Modelers who spray do it the other way around, give the "original" color and then lighten it.😁

Really great video, Evan. This is some seriously helpful stuff, especially since I am doing a grey StuG right now. I am really digging the way you did this video, too. I like the fade from bare plastic to finished product transitions. A comment about your basecoat: I have been using Stynylrez for priming my kits and although I like the results, it's still an acrylic and can be a real bummer to clean up. I have really been considering subbing Tamiya paints (of the appropriate colors) thinned with lacquer thinner or Mr Color Leveling Thinner instead. Oh yeah... great airbrush, dude!
