Thank you very much. Have you ever try mixing oil in the egg-water solution?
@sacredmurals
@sacredmurals 4 года назад
I did, - it gives an interesting effect. But since I do not know, how my oil will behave in 10-2-30 years, I prefer to use egg without it.

I heard is better to incorporate the egg into the water with the fingers and try not to incorporate much air on the emulsion, but I am not sure about the WHY of that.... I like the explanation about dry brush and the consistency of paint, and the layering!!!
@sacredmurals
@sacredmurals 4 года назад
Ina, I was taught this way, and I am sharing what I was taught. I do not see there any mysterious components, and do not see any reason, why should there be any air... Maybe if people make a thicker emulsion, it is important?
@djheadcandy
@djheadcandy 3 года назад
Hi I find that shaking the egg emulsion introduces air bubbles into my first layers of thin paint and I end up with a spotty pin pricked first layer rather than a smooth ‘veil’ so I stopped shaking and just stir, then I tried a different mix using white wine half to half egg and the alcohol seems to reduce the amount of air bubbles

Is it possible to draw with such paints on glass and do I need to somehow fix them to get Verre Eglomise
@sacredmurals
@sacredmurals 4 года назад
I doubt it is a good idea to us egg on glass.. Why? Egg is good when it can penetrate. On glass you use other binders, harder and more transparent ones..

Hello, I would like to ask please, for painting with egg tempera on unprimed masonite is better to attach or (stick) canvas? I appreciate an answer. Thank you very much.

I would first use a very rough sand-paper (something like #40 or even #20 if you find, - to make surface as rough as possible. Then I would glue the cloth on both sides the same way I did on wood... I need two sides because while it's bending because of glue would compensate one another...

I don’t use water in it at all. But vinegar is right
@sacredmurals
@sacredmurals 4 года назад
Well, I think the main thing is the overall ratio. Besides, vinegar has an acid, which, I have read, destroys the egg with time. I am not sure, but I try to reduce the amount of vinegar. I know some people use white wine, beer, or even some drops of vodka ;)
@stel1000
@stel1000 4 года назад
Sacred Murals Studio I know they use vodka to put the gold on. By the way I happen to have studied a master of fine arts in Greece and my teacher showed me to use vinegar. All of the people that make icons here use vinegar. But not much . One egg yolk and one soup spoon of vinegar. Well the result is more maybe thick of a base but if you change the amount of pigment in it you can always create transparencies

I find if no water the paint dries very shiny and the next color you want to put on just slides around like painting on glass.

@sacredmurals
@sacredmurals 3 года назад
Which tube you mean if we are using eggs from egg shells? And yes, you can add a drop or some drops of linseed oil to egg tempera, - some iconographers of 17-18 centuries practiced this.
