Hey, The "rg35xx+" (check the sticker on the back of your device for its name) also known as the "rg35xx 2024" does not have Bluetooth or wifi so keep that in mind! This guide should currently work for the following devices "RG35xx PLUS", "RG35xx H" "RG35xx SP" "RG40xx H" and "RG40XX V" Note that some menus options have been moved in newer versions of the firmware. I hope to make a revised video to reflect this when time permits.
I am glad it was helpful and that you found it. There are an awful lot of quirks and problems with the way it works and the updates haven't addressed all of them, I have been keeping an eye on the updates and hope to make an updated version at some point when it makes the most sense
The hdmi out too, it makes it a nice portable console. Just be aware that you should keep a controller paired as a dedicated controller cause disconnecting them has some potential issues
Would be nice to see one focus on turning the 35xx+ into a more streamlined set top box that also happens to be a handheld. maybe a dedicated console more that has the controller profiles saved into it that you can turn on or off to reduce the amount of configuration needed.
Pls help!!!How to pair bluetooth baseus controller with anbernic rg35xx h. When I connect it, it works in the main menu, but when it goes into the games, the controller does not respond
Any chance there’s a follow up video on this? Cause my Rg35xx SP’s controls don’t work properly in retroarch? ( I can’t use the dpad and the other buttons aren’t working as they used to and In the menu, a is b and vice versa.)
When all else fails, reflash the firmware/sd card to reset all settings. I know the most recent versions of the firmware are slightly different steps now, so I would like to make a follow up/updated video. Unfortunately I just haven't had time, soon.
Xbox 360 doesn't use Bluetooth, so any controllers made for Xbox 360 are very unlikely to be using Bluetooth. Even for PC you need a dongle to connect them.
Thanks for the video. So do the controllers have to be swapped around in the settings before every gaming session if a Bluetooth controller is to be used for Player 1?
i had already connected my wireless controller to my rg35xx+, but i couldnt able to set port 1 control from deeplay keys to wireless controller in the retroarch. may i have some suggestion?
Do not unpair the controller as the 35xx Plus/H doesn't have the ability to forget the controller once paired (as of the last update I tested). If you wanna use it and it's been paired with something else after you paired it the first time well then you'll have to force the 35xx plus/H to forget it by redoing the update, reflashing your main memory card. Keep in mind there is a new update, a couple days old which may have added issues I haven't been able to test. But I hope to be able to look at it today sometime incase anything changed. -Update the firmware on dual sense. -Update the firmware on the RG35xxH -reflash the system and attempt to pair the dual sense controller according to the current guide again. Hopefully nothing new has changed. I'll be looking for significant differences today and I'll respond again with my findings.
I believe by default Retro Arch will save settings when you close it. You can turn that off in the settings and you can manually save by using the "overrides" menu in the "quick menu". Several different ways to do it but I usually say "Save core override" to save your settings for the system you are running, that is if you are doing it manually.
Hello! great content! Please your help, I had the RG35XXH and when I connect the wireless controller, it only works on main menu, when I go to the games, it diconnects, my controller its a CUH-ZCT2E (dualshock 4)
PSP is a different emulator, this guide only works to get controllers working in Retro Arch. Normally what you would do in PPSSPP is go into options and assign the buttons but I haven't tinkered with this via a Bluetooth controller on these machines.
The key combo for controller shortcuts are different. Fast forward may actually be share button + r3 instead of menu+ r2 when using wireless ps4 controller. It's been a bit since I tested that but I can definitely confirm +r2 is the quit game shortcut.
I have used a dongle now and my ps4 controller appears to function as a wired controller when plugged in through the dongle. If you already have the equipment this may be a decent option, but I would be worried about compatibility. I advise against seeking out expensive hardware just to hardwire controllers to this one specific device.
Help! its great that you mentioned to turn on the "All users Control Menu" option, but I did not do it and now I have lost the control to my device with Deeplay-Keys. Isn't there any way to get back the control? Is it possible to fix this by reinstalling the default OS in the SD Card? You mentioned factory reseting using "reset" button, isn't the reset button part of Deeplay-Keys? Hope you reply!! Thanks in advance.
Retro Arch settings can be reset in the main OS settings menu above the network settings where you pair the Bluetooth. If you can't get out of Retroarch use the small reset button on the side of your unit.
If you can't fix it that way, yes you can reinstall the OS to your memory card to start from scratch, you kinda have to do this everytime to update too. So you will get used to it depending how much you play with your unit.
That small reset button just restarts the unit not your configuration, the harder resets are in the settings but you just wanna reset Retro arch settings to try again
I know the 35xx OS has been updated a few times since I did this video and I'm working on a new version to accompany this video I just wanna get my hand on a new unit to help make sure I'm not missing any important version differences. On key change I do know if that all users control menu is now on by default in newer firmwares.
For some reason my XboxOne controller won't connect to my RG35XXSP. System shows that controller connected, but controller itself stays in pairing mode =(
Yeah unfortunately I have had no luck with Xbox controllers. For a short period of time I was able to make them connect but on the most recent updates they don't seem to connect properly. All you can do is reflash the firmware to erase the controller profile and attempt to pair it again and hope it works. It's not a great option. Instead I would recommend grabbing a Data Frog or other cheap brand of Bluetooth controller and use it dedicated on the 35xx plus. Seeing as how you can't erase controller profiles, it's best to leave one controller dedicated to the system, otherwise you have to reflash the firmware if you want to repair the controller with the 35xx again.
@@dhr54 Thanks for answering! It's great to know that its not a failure of a specific unit. If I was the only one who got it, that would be much more upsetting =) I have another two controllers that I thought had Bluetooth support (Nakon Asymmetric and 8Bitdo M30), but they only seem to work with their own USB sticks. It's not like I need external controller for that thing that bad, I only use it as a portable device, but I was just afraid that my unit have some kind of malfunction. And again, thanks for answering, you've made a great guide!
Some help with key map in psp emu ? i cannot remap buttons there i have 8bit ultimate pad, only working buttons on my pad i left analog and select working as Menu button ( F )
I haven't tried the psp emulator much. it's definitely its own beast. When I make an updated video I'll be trying to figure out how to pair it properly but I don't think I know why it's not working right now. When in doubt try a different controller?
I've had no issues with official ps4 controllers, even on the newest update I've tested. PS5 is problematic and seems worse on either newest controller firmwares or newer 35xx/40xx firmware, unfortunately can't tell which given my resources
If you pair a Bluetooth controller you just have to manually assign inputs on the psp and DS emulators. It's not too difficult, if I make a new updated video I will have to remember to include it
I believe they may have moved the option in a newer version of RA being used. But it's definitely in one of the input me menus inside the ps1 core menus
Controllers can't easily be paired a second time due to a weird oversight, so if you have dedicated controllers you can keep paired to it that will help immensely, but otherwise yeah once you get everything going yeah you can use it that way.
I have problems connecting controller to my rg35xx plus model, stock software from January 2024. Console is seeing Xbox controller, but I am unable to connect it, the same with wimote. System is on SD card provided by seller (cheap one), I am waiting for new one. Any thoughts?
While I don't know about a Wii remote as I don't have one to test, I can guess with the Xbox controller. Are you are seeing your the names of your Wiimote and Xbox controllers when you search for Bluetooth device but you don't have the controllers turned on at that moment? If you are, your controllers have been paired before or at least partially started the pairing process and never completed. You cannot pair the controller twice due to an oversight in the software. At this time there is no way to make your RG35xx forget the controllers on purpose but you can reflash your operating system when you get the new SD card. You wanna pick a controller to use with the device and leave it cause because until they update this, its by to have to be reflashed anytime you wanna use it on something else
Something could have been updated in the most recent patches that changed this however Castlevania doesn't have analog support. So what you're likely experiencing is the analog to digital mode. If you check in quick menu/controls/port 1 controls/analog to digital type, this option makes the left or right analog stick perform as the D-pad as a convenience option for people, this isn't actually using the Analog mode that I'm showing how to enable in the video. For games with legit analog controls, like final fantasy 8, medal of honor and Ape escape you may still need to enable the analog option, depending on the version of the firmware.
Actual PS1 controllers on actual PS1 hardware will not make use of the analog sticks unless you press a toggle button on the controller, that's why what there is an option to turn on the analog mode with the button combination. On real hardware it can't just be turned on all the time because the games that have no analog support will then not recognize the controller when the analog mode is on. It's possible they have some advantage on the emulator but initially you had to manually enable the sticks, last update I checked you still had to do this to use the real analog mode in games.
Hmmmm. I haven't seen that yet, but l have had some strange issues pairing some controllers that have simply vanished when I reflashed the OS memory card. I always start there. Somebody on discord mentioned you could manually add controller profiles to Retroarch in some fashion but I'm not sure if it's even something you can do it on Anbernic's OS. It may be easier to just use a different controller depending on your situation as the settings tend to get reset with every firmware update or if the wind blows to hard and the 35xx happens to have a tough day 😅🤪
Keep in mind there is a new update, a couple days old which may have added issues I haven't been able to test. But if I can hazard a guess.... I would always start with the basics. -Update the firmware on dual sense. -Update the firmware on the RG35xxH -Attempt to pair the dual sense controller according to the current guide. Hopefully nothing new has changed. I'll be looking for significant differences today. -Do not unpair the controller as the 35xx Plus/H doesn't have the ability to forget the controller once paired. If you wanna use it and it's been paired with something else after you paired it once you have to force the 35xx plus/H to forget it by redoing the update, reflashing your main memory card.
Well apologies but the Dualsense controller is acting very weird with the latest firmware. For me I'm getting mixed inputs, dropped inputs, multiple inputs. Overall unusable. You may have to seek out another type of controller. I tested DualShock 4 and a generic controller and they both worked fine so far. Hopefully they fix this
@@strutter789so I tested the dualsense on the latest update and it's still messed up. PS4 controller and 3rd party ps4 controller both work, although they need to be set up in the inputs and then they work properly. So my guide continues to work. Switch pro controller and 3rd party switch controllers seem to work but their analog sensitivity on the joysticks is really low, if you turn up the sensitivity they then work fine, but if the game requires fine movements this may be difficult to dial in the appropriate amount of scaling to the analog settings. Xbox series controllers continue to act poorly, with phantom inputs and freezing the system when it connects do not recommend. I don't have any 8bitdo controllers to test unfortunately so that's my whole update. I will have to make a new updated video soon. Now I've had time to test it. Lots of small improvements to the OS but still some of the same issues persist. Frustrating.
Yeah, a small amount but not enough to make it feel bad. Only really noticed when taking Mega Man X for a spin and was still able to do all my normal tricks.
@@dhr54Thanks for getting back to me, and good to know. Finally jumped on it and purchased one earlier today after contemplating it for the better part of this last year, super excited to finally get my hands on this thing! Keep up the great work my man 👍
Sorry but you probably have the wrong device then. If your device says "rg35xx+" on the back sticker, you have a different device, this is for the "RG35xx plus" small stupid difference but the "+" model didn't initially exist when I made this guide and is just a revised version of the original rg35xx more officially called the "rg35xx 2024".
You have the wrong machine unfortunately. There are two confusingly similarly named machines. The 35xx+ and the 35xx Plus. If you don't have the network settings there is a 99% chance you got the wrong machine. Check the label on the back of the machine, the Bluetooth and Wifi are only on the 35xx Plus. The 35xx+ is a minor refresh to the regular 35xx.
This video is for the "35xx Plus". The "35xx+" doesn't have Wifi or Bluetooth. Anbernic almost seems to have released the "35xx+" to confuse people. It's only a slight refresh to the old model and doesn't include the features, most of the time it's marketed as the "35xx 2024" but the label makes it confusing. Sorry!
@@dhr54ah, I see. Yes, it's really confusing. Thank you very much for clearing that mess of very similar markings. Although my console's missing some features, I still like it.
maybe this works for psx, but cannot get any of this to work in the gameboy color core. as soon as a game starts none of the controllers work when a controller is connected.
I have played a bunch of gameboy and hadn't seen any issues myself. Changes to the most recent firmware warrant more testing and more importantly an updated guide. I hope you can figure it out. if I find out anything, I will reply again as soon as I can.
@@dhr54 my 35xx plus isn't connecting for some reason. It connected to 1 at first but now it won't connect at all. I wish there was a "forget device" option on the
@@PerfectMessProductions are you trying to repeat the process? Solution I had was literally buying a dedicated controller for this device. As there is no forget option the second time you turn on the controller it looks for the unit and reconnects but unfortunately if you use some controllers on other devices it seems like they won't properly pair with the 35xx+ a second time. Reflash the sd card and the paired controllers will be erased. When in doubt update and or reflash and start at the beginning. Sucks but until an CFW is made that wants to use the Bluetooth and hdmi out and does it half decently, it's all this device can do.
I have that data frog ps4 i paired successfully but when i tryed to play again wireless controller shows up in the scan, but it doesn't pair again, what should be the problem?
If you unpair your controller with your 35xx+/H due to an oversight in the operating system you cannot pair the controller a second time. To make your system forget the controller and reenable your ability to use that controller you must redo the SD card. flash it again and restore it to default and it will be able to pair again. Try not to use your controller on any other devices to avoid the issue. If you did not use the controller on a different device and it simply wouldn't connect when you tried to turn on the controller, this would be a new issue to me. Try updating to the most recent firmware and hopefully it's not something wrong with the RG or your controller.
I’m so frustrated. Now all my controls are messed up when I go back to using it as a handheld and nothing I try reverts it to stock. I just want the handheld to go back to how it was when I received it but there is not reset to factory option. Beyond annoying
Sorry to hear this, I dunno what happened for you but the best factory reset you can do is flashing your memory card to any of the latest official updates. It will make it just like new again. Make sure you save any important data before you do it, search for Anbernic rg35xx+ firmware (or H if you have it instead) and use a flashing program to set that memory card back to stock with all the latest updates. If you haven't already done this it's a good idea to increase game and controller compatibility anyways.
Problem I am running into while following this tutorial is that i am unable to navigate through RA menu after pairing Bluetooth control. Controls on the handheld do nothing and neither does the wireless control. If I remove the battery from my wireless control, I am then able to navigate the RA menu. I wonder what is causing both controls to stop working.
I haven't had a chance to test the most recent patch what version are you using? I had issues like that when I was running the first or second patch but not the more recent ones. You made sure to enable multiple users for menu control as per the first step? And you added deeplay-keys or its equivalent (if they ever change the name) on port 5? That makes sure you always have a port assigned to the buttons on the unit.
I am using the Modded version 2 that reddit user TomDuhamel has made. (On RG35xxPlus subreddit) I would like to mention that I actually followed this tutorial on Sat 01/27/24 and it worked perfectly fine. I was able to play a game with my bluetooth control and was able to navigate the RA menu. However, a few days later the next time I tried to connect the control, I began to have problems with control not working, RA menu is stuck and Unable to use BT control in game. I don't think I changed any settings in RA. Resetting the RA config or redownloading the OS didn't work either. @@dhr54
Sorry I don't know how to fix that. Did you attempt to pair the controller a second time, or did you just turned on the controller and it paired automatically? I have experimented and found the Bluetooth controllers do not seem to stay stable I lost my trigger functionality etc especially when I would pair the controller a second time. Ultimately I flash the firmware and start over cause I can't fix it when it goes crazy. Seems to be a flaw in the software hopefully a bigger fix comes down after LNY. Or with CFW. 😵💫
I'll be updating mine unit to check for any changes ASAP but Anbernic has unfortunately made this kind of confusing. Just to make sure you have the "Plus" and not the "+". You see if your device says "rg35xx+" on the back sticker it's actually the enhanced version of the normal 35xx (most listings call it the 35xx 20224) and doesn't do the Bluetooth and wifi. If your device says "35xx plus" you have the device in the video and the menus should reflect the video unless the settings have changed the names of the menus. The 35xx 2024 having a + on the name on the sticker is a huge mistake I feel, as it has caused people to mistake the two similar devices. Alternatively, maybe it's possible to have installed the normal 35xx 2024 firmware by mistake and that's why the network settings are gone? I believe it uses the same chipsets now so it may be possible but I haven't checked it
I have used a dongle and my ps4 controller appears to function as a wired controller when plugged in through the dongle. If you already have the equipment this may be a decent option, but I would be worried about compatibility. I advise against seeking out expensive hardware or cables just to hardwire controllers to this one specific device.
You are holding options and the "PlayStation" button to activate Bluetooth pairing mode? It does the quick flashing? Thats when you press X to refresh list? If it doesn't show up try refreshing again. If it still doesn't show up, and it's still in pairing mode maybe it's got a weird name instead of wireless controller? Hopefully something hasn't gone wrong with the controller or system :S
Psp and DS both technically have different emulators and doesn't use the same settings as the rest that use RA. I never even thought of that, separate steps would be necessary to map the controller, I haven't played around with that part and don't know if it's even possible.
The original RG35xx and the rg35xx (2024) don't have wifi or Bluetooth. If your menu doesn't have it, sorry to say you have on of those. Beige bezels around the screen, no battery hatch and the name "rg35xx+" on the back sticker and you have purchased the rg35xx (2024). It's possible Anbernic did this on purpose but at the time of this video that confusion wasn't a thing. If by some chance you do have black bezels, a battery hatch and the name "rg35xx plus" (again not the +) on the back, somehow you are still missing the network settings, that's a completely new problem. I guess start by updating the OS and make sure you're grabbing the right one just in case there is some way to switch them ?
@@dhr54 you got it right off the bat. I appreciate your help and extensive knowledge. I have a neat gift for a friend and will get another happily. Thanks!
Can anyone help? I do not see “network” in my settings which is weird, because I’ve connected this device to the internet in the past Any suggestions??? Please help!
you're sure you have used network settings on your device before? The regular RG35xx and newer RG35xx 2024 models don't have network features, also confusingly seems to be called RG35xx+ on the label, the one with wifi would say RG35xx Plus and have a battery door on the back. I've never seen Instability to cause features to go missing on the firmware. If all else fails I guess reflash the firmware to the newest update and start testing from there.
@@dhr54 ahhh okay that may be the issue. I was trying with a rh28xx. I thought I connected to WiFi for board purposes, but I could be wrong. I also have a rg35xxsp, not sure if it has network settings either. I’ll have to check.
Oh yeah that's it for sure, 28xx doesn't have BT or Wifi. The SP definitely will. The firmware has had a bit of an update the biggest difference being that I don't think you will have to do the "all users control menu" fix on the latest updates.
If I'm understanding this correctly, The most recent update puts the port controls into a new menu called "Retropad binds" hope that helps. This is the kind of change that warrants an updated video so thank you for bringing this to my attention. I hopefully can get around to making a new video soon.
Xbox is definitely hit or miss with compatibility, if you haven't already try updating the system. I have issues with Xbox with earlier firmware. Good luck!
I have had this issue again with the most recent update. I have also gotten some to work fine. Seems to be hit or miss still and I would continue to seek out other options for wireless controllers to use. Xbox controllers are great for pc games, it's a shame they are not 100% here.
The same here, newest stock... Cannot pair xbox nor PS4 controller...The same with batocera, I am starting to thinking there is something wrong with bluetooth module. Edit: I managed to pair PS4 controller, so it's hit or miss I guess...
Unfortunately as a i said in the comments the Xbox pad isn't really the best choice, I have had serval issues with pairing it which leads me to have to flash my memory card again to clear the settings. I'll be testing the latest update once again to look for improvements but I'm not optimistic. I haven't seen enough improvements to warrant making a new video yet
Sorry but I won't be able to do a guide for that one. I can say that it doesn't appear to a Bluetooth device so USB port allows you to plug in USB controllers via a separate USB-A to USB-C dongle.
Unfortunately I forgot to mention in this guide that the Retroarch section doesn't work for psp. The psp games are using a different emulator and don't map the same way. You need to flick through the PPSSPP menu which is different. By default one of the triggers is to switch between stick and D-pad, that may hold true for the psp emulator and using a Bluetooth. Good luck, I may try and add a psp section to my updated video should I make one. If there are enough changes I should make an update soon.
I didn't. I was going to but I haven't had time. Looking like there is a new update for me to test and maybe I can do multiplayer details with that any other announcements that come from that update.
@@dhr54yeah please do! I was looking into whether its possible to connect a controller and play Tekken 3 with a friend cause we travel so much in a van - one on the actual handheld and one next to me with a controller
Should work, as long as it's got Bluetooth. I wasn't able to test one but lots of people say it's a good version. You would think it would given the fact that switch and ps4 controllers work.
Wrong device? People have been buying the rg35xx (2024) and the rg28xx thinking they may have Bluetooth. The rg35xx got a 2024 update that gave it a more powerful chip but no wifi or Bluetooth. This is marketed as the rg35xx 2024 but confusingly says 35xx+ with the +symbol on the back label of the device. The actual rg35xx "plus" with Bluetooth doesn't use the plus symbol on the back. At the time of making this video it was easier to type out rg35xx+ but now it's possible it would be confusing if you don't look close enough at the listings you shop on, or buy it second hand, or especially on sites that like to make it confusing like Ali express etc. Again When this video was made there was no overlap between the 35xx+ and the 35xxplus, both ways meant the plus model, dumb of anbernic decision to make it harder to tell the regular 35xx apart. So. What's it say on the back of your machine?
@dhr54 Thank you for responding. Yes, I double checked everything last night and I don't have the plus model. I guess I have the regular model but the messed up thing is that after I was going through the settings of my device. I did find where it did say Bluetooth, but I guess that they never added a core to it so it can't be used, but thank you for responding. And the only thing that sucks is that the plus model only comes in the original Gray. Like you show in the video. Clear black or clear white. I have the atomic purple device, which is the older one.
Most Bluetooth controllers can be paired. If you want best compatible controllers try a ps4 or a Switch pro controller. Bluetooth is the main ingredient you need though. The Xbox one/series controllers do work but sometime have issues. To be fair all the controllers can have issue, it's not a perfect system.
Unfortunately Xbox controller are not playing nice with these machines. Initially they worked but after the first could patches their compatibility stopped working
I've never had an issue with the controllers reconnecting to the unit, this may be a new issue? But the issue I do know about was that it is currently impossible for the 35xx+/h to recognize the same controller if it was disconnected from the 35xx+/h and paired with something else. You cannot make the system forget the original pairing from the system menu. It is Unfortunate but the only way to rectify this appears to be reflashing the OS using the update files Anbernic provide on their website. I recommend using one controller exclusively with the unit so this issue is avoided.
It can be overwhelming but once you have all the steps memorized it literally takes 2 minutes to implement. Plus once you do it, you shouldn't need to repeat the full steps, instead just being able to turn on your controller to have it automatically connect. You still may need to toggle it back and forth in Retroarch if you decide to play it handheld again.
