Please tell me where do you get your wallpaper table. Also, when your wallpaper is wide, If your wallpaper is wider than your table, do you use the small table or do you have a table that accommodates the size of the wider wallpapers? I hate when my wallpaper sides are hanging off the sides of my table; please tell me what you guys do

I recently did the hall stairs and landing at my place, had so many cuts it took me 2 days to complete the job. I tend to feather joints rather than use a Stanley blade but I'll try that way the next time. I also did the kitchen last year the walls are that out I told the wife to get a brick effect paper for the focal wall and I actually had to use a few artist pencils to draw in the pattern on joints as you could never get the pattern to ever match up. when I finished the job the wife and others gave it a good check over and could not see where I'd drawn in the patterns LOL. Had I had my way I'd have gone with plain pattern type paper that could be painted over. Loving watching the videos I'm picking up new tips although I'm no longer in the trade. And it's so refreshing to see another P&D that is old school only difference with your approach is I now tend to use a damp sponge to hang paper rather than a brush and I never thought of using expanding foam in cracks but i'll be using that trick from now on. The vids make me want to go and buy good quality equipment again. I used to have a set of Hamilton scissors they where brill had them years until some scum bag stole them on one of my very last jobs. I remember when I was in the trade I swore by two paints. The first was Manders white emulsion for ceilings as it went on so well you could get away with two coats on the worst ceiling the other was the Valspa paints was cheap but good trade paint now its bloody expensive.

Laura Ashley and easy enough ! Never thought I'd hear that expression. Each to their own mate but try using a good fluffy roller to paste,easier on the back ,once you get the hang of it ,you'll wonder why you never started years ago. Good workmanship once again btw.

Thank you, yes the odd paper from Laura Ashley is fine. But must admit I love my flat brush.

Great vid, very thorough but I have to ask if you've considered getting even a cheap laser level? Makes plumbing those awkward lines so very simple. I use one for landscaping and when I was doing some lining in my own place i found it absolutely invaluable. It's a DeWalt that fires horizontal and vertical lines a great distance. It was pretty cheap, about £40. I recommend it.
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 7 лет назад
Thanks mate I do have a laser but it's a lot simpler using my plum bob it goes in my pocket very easily and is always with me, and does not run out of batteries. Certain areas I use the one I have.

Fair do's! Different strokes and all that. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing some videos using water-based wood finishes. Satin, eggshell, etc. The best I've used so far has been Dulux quick dry trade santiwood. Not great opacity, needed 2 good undercoats but a very nice finish and levels out very well. I still think there must be better ones out there though.
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 7 лет назад
Ye water based finishes not the best. Good in certain areas and for customers with breathing problems. But if your trying to speed up the job I use zinsser primer then acrylic undercoat followed by oil gloss. Sometimes on skirts just use zinsser bin then oil gloss. Depends on level of damage to surface if good just acrylic undercoat then oil gloss.

hi great video, I have papered for a long time not as a job I always soak paper as they say and I always put paste on Wall for piece of mind but I did a room and the paper shrank leaving a small white line! do you get that and if so what do you do? thanks Ian
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 7 лет назад
Hi Ian sorry for the late reply yes that's a common thing with paper. The way the paper is shrink wrapped I think. So what you get is the paper has fine gap every 12 inches. What you need to do is keep going back to check and it's a case of pushing and pulling along the joint to close the gaps. Does not work on every paper. Will do a video to show. Thanks
@ufucoffeefuctifarno6288
@ufucoffeefuctifarno6288 5 лет назад
Make sure your paste is strong enough to hold paper in place whilst it's drying (shrinking )

What a nightmare of a room to wallpaper fella. I think I would have declined the job haha! The room looked quite small too and the wallpaper pattern was really busy which I reckon makes a room appear even smaller anyway. However great job by yourself and brilliant that your videos show awkward rooms and how to tackle them. Top job!!

hi going to have ago at paste the wall wallpaper do I need special paste or can I use all purpose love your vids superb
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 5 лет назад
Thanks, all purpose should be fine it depends on which room your papering. You can get ready mixed for kitchen and bathroom. And if it's a heavy weight vinyl you may find a ready mixed better.

What's your preferred paste for these Laura Ashley papers. I know Laura Ashley recommend their own brand but do you use an alternative? Many thanks. Marc
@PaintingandDecorating
@PaintingandDecorating 7 лет назад
Yes, I always use solvite and ready mixed sometimes especially for heavy weight vinyl papers.
@MarcGray1990

I do decorating more on a weekend and occasionally at work as I'm in property maintenance and solvite is always my choice but I did try Bartoline ready mixed the other day and I was pleasantly surprised... got a hell of a grab!

Get out of here. Paper is so much harder than painting. More money in it. problem here in the states is people tend to go cheap on install and wonder way they have problems after. So much more stress involved with paper
