Ok I am in the process of doing this now. I did a small section in the corner of the room. It went down great but as it dried it came up. Every glue I have looked at says washable which I do have 1 gallon of this stuff. Bought by mistake 🤦♀️🙄. Could this be my problem the glue being washable? Help
I used PVA glue mixed with the right ratio of water. Floor's of course need to be prepared first from all dirt and debris then hoovered, washed and allowed to dry for one or two days . After hoovering the floor again , I then glued down lining paper on the floor for it to act as a base. A few days later after it had dried I started to glue down the brown paper bags. After the floor has dried there was a few brown paper sections that didn't stick so I used a bit of PVA undiluted to stick it down . The varnish I applied 5 coats over 2 days . I bought a rug to cover the areas I would mainly be walking on .
I have not removed any, not sure how difficult it would be. You could easily just sand it and go over it with other flooring as it is very thin. I would probably use something else if I was renting a place.
I papered concrete floors 3 years ago. I refreshed them after 2 and a half years by patching one spot with paper & by adding several new coats of poly. I did not sand first. I did not move furniture around, cover the whole floor, etc; I only refreshed the worn areas like under an office chair by the desk. Also, I've seen lots of controversy about successful papering of concrete floors. I tried kraft paper and, indeed, it easily popped up off concrete floors. What worked is bogus paper. I buy it online from Uline. It's made from recycled newspaper & is very porous with no "finish." Since it is made from recycled paper, you never know exactly what color you will get. Colors vary anywhere from pale gray to dark taupe. So, order enough to cover your whole project.
Hello. Curious about the dye. It looked Lavender in the bowl, but finished it didn't look colored at all. I finished a paper bag floor today, but considering coloring it the next time. Thanks
JasmynJade Bauer, yeah I noticed that the Rit dye had a lavender hue as well. It definitely made the floor darker when it dried although maybe it is hard to tell in the video. Another thing you can try is adding the dye to the oil modified polyurethane which will darken the floor in a more even manner.
rocio garcia, I don't think most wood stains would work because nthey are usually oil based and the glue and water mixture isn't. Any dye that dissolves in water would probably work.
It depends, probably 12-24 hours if you want to walk on it. 3-4 hours to do another coat (assuming you don't have to walk on it to apply the polyurethane.) Parts of my floor are panels that were done on saw horses in the garage and those I was able to do multiple coats a day.
...order enough to cover your whole project AND make sure you get the paper good and wet as you glue it to the floor! The fibers in the bogus paper grab the concrete pores better if it's wet.
It will depend on how many coats of polyurethane you apply. We did 3 and it has been holding up well for over a year now other then a few marks where I dropped some hole saws and large glass baking dish that fell and broke. If the finish starts to wear you can do a light sand and apply a few more coats of polyurethane. It's a lot like hard wood except you have to address any damage or excessive wear sooner.
