I’ve got a sprint tri on Sunday (in 5 days). Great tips but I will have forgotten all your advice by then….. sorry. I’ll be in Z5 within 2 minutes and only then will I remember it’s a Tri. 🥵
@@gtn you asked how it went. Let’s not talk times but let’s spread the message of just how much fun triathlons are. It’s not about age or performance or how much you spend on machines. Not really. What’s it REALLY about is doing a bit of training, getting to the start line, enjoying that nervous wait at the shore (mass deep water start for me) and then execute the best we can. Enjoying every stroke, pedal, step and realising that we are alive at that moment and in the moment. When all the distress and distraction is around us, just briefly for a couple of hours it stops and the world is a better place. That is how it went 😀
6:19 when you go out wide, make sure you pay attention to your sighting so you don't end up in the weeds off course... not that I have ever done such a foolish move... never 😀.
I have a quite interesting problem when I do my swimming sector. I am good swimmer and usually race with the top of the group. However, I am not able to know when is effective to take the draft of other swimmers since the feeling I have is that I am not doing so much effort and think that I am swimming slower than being alone. How do you know when are you taking a good swimmer as a reference and taking advantage of his/her feet and drafting?
Oh I would never dive off a pontoon. I can't dive worth anything and it makes me real nervous to try. I would wait 10-15 seconds then jump in feet first.
Great helpful video. Do many people wear wetsuit socks on the swim to help with the transition run or is it normally well matted out? I’ve got my first sprint triathlon in may and was unsure on how hard on the feet it is?
Technically, any footwear during swim is prohibited, most of the time. I have never seen this enforced in an age group race. To help with the transition run, I usually leave my flip-flops near the swim exit. A lot of people do the same. *A lot* of people. So make sure you can recognize your shoes, leave it in the place, where it is easy to find them, but also, out of the way, so they don't get kicked.
