Yeah not having much experience with router bits in general, of course this never even occurred to me. I figured you could just cut multiple circles to get the desired lip, but that's definitely not great because you need the 1/4" bit for it to be calibrated. Just imagine how many passes you would need to do for bigger speakers etc, and the lips would be hard to replicate each time. Thank you for the info sir, subscribed and liked the video.

If you have the circle jig to cut the hole in the first place why not use that to do the flush mount? I drill the 1/8 hole for the circle jig center pin, route the countersink then route the woofer hole. If you do the woofer hole first, the cicle jig center pin hole is gone and can't be used for the countersink routing.

With the jasper circle jig in the video, if you get a router bit an odd number of 32nds in diameter (7/32 or 13/32 for example), in addition to the standard 1/4 inch, you can cut circles in 1/32 inch diameter increments. that's 0.794mm diameter increments. Hard to ask for better than that.

That’s what the rabbet bit is for. You don’t need a center pin, you just need a perfect hole to start with, which is easy with the jig. Your way would work but it seems harder to me, you have to be perfect on the countersink depth, with the rabbet bit you can easily adjust depth and re-route if you don’t cut deep enough the first time.

Excellent advice. It makes such sense when you think about it, but I've never tried it. Looking forward to give it a try

Its only a 9" speaker. It has 1/2" metal mounting frame around the cone, that is not actually speaker as it cannot make sound unless you hit it with a hammer.

I use the exact same technique, which works great for speakers that are in standard inch measurements, like 10”. Do you have any advice for speakers in metric sizes that don’t equate to any of the 1/16” increments on the router jig?

What about tiny small flange tweeters?

What about speakers that have those little "ears" where the screws mount ?

I would say use a trim router set to the exact same depth as the flush mount. Go slow and stay in the lines. That's what I did when I made the Polk speakers for my brother. I was a nervous wreck. I had to do that for 9 holes in red oak.

Will flush mounting hurt the sound by vibrations from the speaker? Should i use rubber or foam between the speaker and wood?

Solid technique -- thank you. How did you arrive at 1" (1/2" lip)? Is that a standard for woofers?
