Here's some of my opinions on how you should go about deciding what bike to start riding on.
Ultimately, it's an extremely personal decision and it's about finding what works best for you, but there are still some common things everyone should think about when making their decision on a first bike.

Love your content man. Bought a 696 as my first bike and I can't get enough of it. I've already put nearly 1000 miles on in the past 2 months. Wish I lived closer to you and Taylor202. All my riding buddies here in GA are either on a ZX6R or R6.

Great video man. I am looking at an 821 as my first bike because of the power modes but the price scares me and I wonder if a 696 would be best. But I also know that the 821 would have better service miles so would be cheaper in the long run. Living on a small island 36 square km long bad roads and drivers and overpopulated roads what do u recommend for me? The videos are great and this one I really needed. Great level headed advice.

Tendwayi Bvumburah The Monster 821 can definitely handle the occasional bad roads without issue. However, if there's a lot of rough terrain or any unpaved roads, you might be better suited on a Hypermotard, or even a dirt bike or super-moto. Something with softer suspension definitely helps. Do you have a Ducati dealer on the island, or somewhere reasonably reachable? That's probably going to be the biggest factor for you. While the newer Ducati's have longer maintenance cycles, they're more difficult to maintain yourself and it could become a hassle if you can't get it serviced easily.

Great video, I was wondering if you considered the Monster 1200 when you made your purchase? I am returning to riding and am tossing up between the 2

Not really. The 821 already has a ton of power and the 1200 was more money than I wanted to spend. Really would've loved a single sided swingarm though.

Hi! Thanks for the video! Will you recommend this bike as a first bike? I have already pass my safety test in Bulgaria and I have a full license but don't want to spend money and time for 300cc class and outgrow it after 6 months. I’m 34 mature and not a wild head. I know that in urban mode the power is 75 HP but how is the torque….does it reduce the torque as well…my fear is that the bike has a lot torque and could catch me off guard as a new rider. Is it good at low speeds or the throttle is jerky? I think if I keep it in Urban for several months I will be OK and at later stage could proceed with Touring. Would you lease to share your two cents on the subject. Thanks in advance.

Is the Monster 821 in Urban mode a good beginner bike? Much thanks!

The island is pretty small and I have a few mechanically inclined friends and my brother who is studying engineering. Plus the Ducati specialist here is rated from Bologna. I just want to make a good decision for me. Coz it would be pricey. How are the mpg and how is it for everyday use?

Tendwayi Bvumburah It's been perfect riding everyday. It's a really flexible bike, it performs great on the highway, but is really comfortable in the city. I usually get around 40 mpg, but I could easily get 45-50 mpg if I changed my riding style to be more fuel conscious.
