I liked your style of limiting your lesson to one thing...its hard to learn everything at once but you give a good usable building block for the toolbox...thanks
Awesome job man, love the clear precise instructions, matching each side to each other and the different pressures seems like the key and self confidence to just try it!
So incredibly pleasing to watch. Just subscribed! My dream is to start my own custom shop one day & if I can get to your level of precision I think I'll be ok. Love it man
I have admired your work all over the Dekalb/sycamore area since I started pinstriping in 2015. Man I would love to paint with ya someday and learn a few things!
I know this is random but I gotta say I love your voice and the way you talk/explain things. Subbed. Would love to see more vids of you pinstriping stuff.
This is awesome. I love art- in all forms- and my dad runs an automotive shop he did have a paint and body portion but he had to close it. Recently I’ve taken a liking to the idea of doing paint and body. If i can do it, I’ll be the one to open that portion of his shop again and I’ll be doing something i love. Thank you for the tutorial.
Super clean! With graffiti letters I used to copy “Mr cartoon’s” style until I got comfortable with the flow of things and then started doing my own thing once I understood how make proportionate or symmetrical letters. Worked out ok for me so I’m going to do the same with pinstriping. I know you all asked so there it is lol
Thank you! You just made me realize I'm pinching too far down on the ferrule thread. I get nice lines and decent symmetry, but I can't pull the short turns. I'll work on rolling the brush more. Great camera work that really shows the hand position!
I’m happy that I was able to help. You sound like you’re determined to do your best . That’s the passion you need to be great! Keep on strokin.! Thanks for watching 😎
I lettered a lot of signs with one shot paint, Ronan was my next preference, quality paint and brushes make for easier work. I pinstriped shadows, borders, am happy to see brushwork is still alive. 👍👍
I grew up using one shot. It was great. Then they sold to other companies, and there quality went down hill. Ronan sold also , but so far the quality remains. Thanks for watching 😎
@@rickbendi8709 I think it was in the 1980s, EPA was out to remove lead and chrome from paints, lots of pressure to go to water thinnable paints. Car paint was also adversely affected, lot of scale and peeling. Brushes arent the same either. We washed in spirits, then kept in motor oil or mineral oil, one guy used lard, rats ate the hairs, i miss those Russian squirrel hair brushes. Ah, to be 60 again....👍👍🙏
I have taken up striping and lettering at a late age and having fun. My problem with striping is not brush control it's getting the "look". I know practice. It's 1:52 am and that's what I be doing. Thanks for sharing. Good day.🖌️
I used to look at everyone’s designs. Back in the day there was no computer so I went to car shows and took pictures of the designs I liked. Then practiced my ass off to try to imitate it. It took awhile but gradually you’ll see yourself improve. And it’s ok to copy other work. Everyone has .eventually you get your own style. Passion , and not giving up is the key. Good luck. Thanks for watching 😎
Antigamente se via muito essa pintura no Brasil 🇧🇷 principalmente nas carrocerias de madeira dos caminhões, pelo menos em São Paulo já deve ser bem raro, infelizmente, abraço, de Interlagos, São Paulo.
Man looks good! Ive been into pinstriping forever been thinking about trying to start practicing again. I was always into drawing but not really any good Lol I tried to attend art school long ago but didn't work out
That’s cool, it didn’t work out for me either. I just did it on my own. Looked at other people’s work and tried to imitate it. There was no internet to learn from. No one would tell you there secrets. This is a great time to start! Grab a brush and start stroking ! Practice and passion is the key. Have fun!
That's a pretty design man I've been practicing with a Mack brush but find them harder to make the turns I know it takes practice practice practice I noticed you have your brush trim any tips at all maybe on other brushes anything would help
If you want to do scroll or make dramatic designs. Try a brush called BOBO. It’s made for fancy designs. I can get scrolling with my Mack 13. 00 but you got work with it. I hope this helps thank you for watching
Thank you. Lol! About 40 years. I used to letter the tavern windows in Chicago for Old Style beer. I’ve lettered striped just about everything. Hot rods, guitars, motorcycles, coffins, clothing. It’s been fun. Thank you for watching. I hope I can help people with these videos. 😎🙏
I like the Mack’s “Hanson King 13” 00. Double zero is the size of the brush. I feel a 0, or number 1, is to much brush. ( thicker lines)You can get it at www. Mackbrush . Com have fun. Thank you for watching
What paint/kind of paint would you recommend using on a helmet? I’m going back and forth between trying something myself or getting my buddy to do a custom piece, but either way, I want to make sure the product is correct
I want to start getting into this as I saw it at a car show recently and have always enjoyed the freehand look. A question I do have is what do you do if your lines become not symmetrical?
Symmetry comes with practice. The more you do the better the symmetry. Draw a grid to try and make the lines the same on each side. Brush control and the thickness of the paint are important. Be patient. It will get there😎 thanks for watching
@@rickbendi8709 yeah I am going to give it a shot . I can only gain from it . My situation is I will tear it down 50 times before I get it how I want it .
I would get a few Ronan lettering enamel colors. Some mineral spirits ,for thinning the paint and cleaning your brushes. A 00 pin striping brush and a couple lettering brushes. Then just practice. Watch as many videos as you can until you understand the concept . Good luck , and have fun!!!!
Hey, question here if I may. I bought a harley with black denim paint and some pin striping on it that is fading. How do you safely remove the striping without hurting the bike paint?
I used oven cleaner in the past. But I’m NOT sure what it would do to the denim paint job. ( I’m assuming that’s satin ) I would try a small spot somewhere that’s not noticeable . Other wise go to a body shop you trust and they might be able to buff it off. If you use oven cleaner ….mask out the area, wear gloves and mask , don’t get it anywhere you don’t want it! It’s nasty . Leave it on for a few minutes, rub it off and repeat if necessary. Then wash it with water. Water neutralize it. ( on a shiney finish, you can buff it back to life if it fills dulls down , butt I’m not sure about the denim finish ). I would try the body shop first. They know paint. Thanks for watching
Hi Rick - do you have a video that shows straight lines? I have a model airplane that has a lot of pinstriping on the wings - most of the lines are straight. Thank you!
No I don’t. But straight lines are the hardest to do. Especially if you can’t move your hand in a consistent motion without obstacles in the way. I suggest masking the lines off with “fine line “pinstriping tape. That would make a nice tight line.
Do you have or could you show a video of what to do when you need to clean off a line? Ill eventually be doing a lot of long, straight lines on my car and i know ill need to do it at least once! 😂
I’ll try to. But in the meantime, let’s say you make a mistake…you take a rag with a lil mineral spirits on it and remove the bad spot. Then re do it. I still make mistakes. Have fun😁
Just starting out. What sword type brush will turn the easiest? I'm flaring out every time I try my cheap Mack, so I stick with my Kafka scroller, but people keep telling me to learn the sword. UGH!
I don’t own anything but Mack swords. My favorite is a “ Hanson mack 13 “ double 00. Try to use more of the tip of the brush when doing scrolling, the shorter hairs toward the heal of the brush will not fan out. When your doing longer lines without scrolls you can lay the whole brush down then ease up and just use the font end for your turns. It’s a feel. You’ll get there. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching
What kind of paint do you use? Could you use automotive paint that’s already reduced and mixed? Would you recommend doing the stripes before clear coat or after? And what do you do if you mess up? 😂 Thanks for the great video.
I use Ronan lettering enamel. Thin it with a lil mineral spirits.you can NOT use automotive paint. It’s not made for pinstripes or lettering. Most pinstriping is done over the clear. Although , you can clear coat over stripes if you want. If you mess up , you are able to wipe it off and try again. Once it dries ,it’s tough to get off. Thanks for watching 😎
Not the ones I know. Your sketch is on the item your striping. I keep photos of the designs I do, and occasionally look back for ideas and past inspiration. Thank you for watching
I use a blue Stabillo All pencil for light color cars and a white Stabillo All pencil for dark color cars.( for sketching the design). Then I pinstripe the car. After the paint dries I use windex to remove the sketches. I hope this what you mean. Thanky for watching 😎
Measure it best you can. Then I take a piece of 1/8 “ tape ,and eye ball it. Then once you get the best you can , take a “ Stabilo pencil and mark it. Peal the tape and go to work. 😎thanks for watching
Hi, I'm an artist but never did pinstripes. My uncle has faith in me to pinstripe his car. I'm nervous. Can you please tell me what type of brushes and paints I need ? And what do I do if I make a mistake? Can I just wipe off ? Thank you
😁well, let’s see🤔I use Ronan lettering enamel. I thin it sparingly with mineral spirits. I use a Mack 00 pinstriping brush. Look on line, you can find everything. Now….for doing the job. Practice on something first. Get comfortable with the brush and paint. If you like the way it’s going then do the car. Make sure the car has no wax. ( clean it with mineral spirits) while the paint is still wet you can remove the mistake with mineral spirits and a rag. Don’t get discouraged. It took me a long time to achieve the quality I wanted. Good luck and have fun!!
Sorry , not at this time. I’m in Illinois. Just keep working on it , And a lot of questions will be answered . I didn’t have anyone show me anything. I just wanted it bad. You can look at the internet now for tips and ideas. There is no secret to it. Just practice your butt off 😁😎thanks again!
@@rickbendi8709 me to but they won't tatto pin strip because you don't get the flow from a tattoo gun that comes from a pinstripe brush and it dont look good
🤭sorry. But , I can help anyone get better at pinstripes or lettering by telling them one word. “ Practice “. That would make a pretty boring video. So the best I can do is give tips on how to practice. I never had the internet when I was learning. I couldn’t watch anyone doing it, how to hold the brush or mix the paint. I just know that I wanted to be the best I could be at this. For a novice this might seem out of reach. But it is possible to achieve with practice. So… are you ready to be the best you could be? Just start doing it and you’ll get there! Thanks for watching 😎
