This simple concept will change the way you pitch the ball forever. Especially if you struggle with solid contact or worse, the yips, one simple move can make all the difference in the world.

Great video John. At one time, you were going to release a dvd on short game. I wish you would. I would be first in line to buy it.

Oh man! I have got to get back on that one. I do have a putting video, but the sound was totally ruined.

I can't say that I struggled with yips, but I was definitely guilty of tilting backwards for a period of time. My contact has been good recently, but could be better. I like the reference to the shirt buttons tending towards the forward foot at setup, and of course moving them up and away through impact. These concepts are new to me, so I'll be working on it. Thanks John!

I thought I was seeing this move as I was studying the best pitchers this past year. You have just confirmed it. I see now that the away part is very important, too. I have been trying it on my carpet with adding the away part. It’s working great but I am wondering if there is a timing mechanism for when to start the up. Is it a subconscious timing thing developed with practice or does it occur just before the start of downswing or in the middle of the downswing? I hope you will put out a similar video lesson on the old fashion chip from just off the green whereby you hit the green 5 feet on but change clubs depending on the required roll out. I catch one, ever so often, a little fat. Generally my technique envisions landing the plane at the grass just in front of the ball as if trying to hit an imaginary ball in front of the actual ball or the front of the actual ball. This works fairly well but perhaps you have a better idea. Look forward to seeing this as I haven’t found it addressed by you yet. Thanks

John I have another question for our guru!….In chipping (short pitches) do we still extend and left bend in the backswing? In full swing I get it that if we stay in flexion, we will move off. Am wondering if we extend and left bend to stay centred? thanks Rob

That is a great question, Rob. Extending the right wrist on the backswing more than a little can turn your club into a shovel as you dig deep enough into the dirt to wreak havoc on your game. Do so with caution. Of course, some folks do extend the wrist and then still return the club to neutral at impact (nearly vertical shaft).

@@JohnDunigan Very kind to respond so promptly 👍 my question was more about extending the body and tilting left to remain centred. In full swing I know we start off bent over then stand up whilst tilting left & rotating - to stay in posture. I just wondered if we do same in a chipping pivot….turning bent over moves us off the ball right? Many thanks Rob
