Bougainvillea is quite a popular topic on my blog. I've done multiple posts & videos on all aspects of growing it. Or so I thought! I know many of you are curious about bougainvilleas in containers & I've seen many of them growing this way over the years. This is all about planting bougainvillea in pots including the soil mix to use, steps to take & a key thing to know.

I've seen them root pruned by bonsai experts and they have no problem with it blooming afterwards so you can prune their roots to any size planter you want 😉

Can I use two larger pots on either side of an arbor to train it to grow on that… It’s side yard and will get 1-2 hours of direct sun.. I’m in Mesa AZ

I love your bougainvillea videos, as someone who has just planted their first plant! Both educational and entertaining, so thank you! You mentioned that they can handle reflective areas if watered regularly. What would regular watering be in this case? I have one in a pot outside a west-facing window that gets light from 12:30-sundown. Thanks so much!

Love your videos thank you so much for the info! We live in southern CA but it’s about to rain later this wk. Would you recommend waiting for the rain to subside prior to planting OR planting few days before the rain? Thanks again!

Hi Nell, I'm Dale Andrews from Lake Charles, LA. I'm both a "liker" and subscriber and have been following you well before you made the move from Santa Barbara to Tuscon. Just a quick question. What's the tall (with several branches) plant to the right of the blue pot starting at around 1:15? It looks similar to an oleander. Enjoyed the video, BTW. I think the next plant I'll add to my collection will be a bougainvillea, but probably not until next year (2024). In the meantime, I'll be watching practical care videos such as yours. I enjoy your plant adventures and use your advice a lot. Happy gardening! 🪴🌴

When planting a bougainvillea plant, how wide and deep should hole be? Same question for the Tecoma Stans? And should fertiliser or bone meal, be added at the bottom of Hole? Only i will be using a power planter tool, 324 3" wide 24" long. Might need several holes jouned up

i plan to buy large pots for 2 bougainvillaes. i want them to be able to grow over my 14x10 pergola and was wondering what size pot do you suggest to get? i dont want the pots so large that the bougainvillae will over grow and will have to prune all the time, but not so small that it wont grow/cover the roof. any suggestions much appreciated. thanks

I want to grow bougainvillea in an area that is a low spot so it may get too much water there for it to thrive. I am hoping to grow one to cover a fence . Do you think a really big pot will work?

Ugh 😫 I somehow killed my Blueberry ice. I had it indoors for winter & it survived until spring & died. No idea what I did wrong. My other 2 types of Bougs did well.

Maybe it's your weather but out here I can take them out their container and chop them down, replant them and they still grow.... I live in the tropics.

Hi, I just purchased a bougainvillea. It has green moss on the top layer of the soil.I am just wondering if this is normal. Both plants were in a small pot. I took off the layer and replaced the soil with new potting soil. I plan to keep it in the pot and but it in my garden. Since I live in northern Ontario, I am not planning to plant it, instead I might bring it inside during the winter. Is this possible ?
