How to Plant Early Spring Bulbs 

Learn how to plant early spring bulbs such as crocus, grape hyacinths, snowdrops, glory of snow, and scilla! Early spring bulbs should be planted in the fall into loose well-draining soil. Plant them 2-3 times as the deep as the bulb is tall, with room for two bulbs between them. Place them into the prepared hole with pointy side of the bulb facing up and then backfill with soil. Fall and winter rains generally provide enough moisture for all of these bulbs, so don’t worry about watering unless it’s unusually dry.
It’s fun to get creative with early spring bulbs and plant them in various ways. You can plant them in a lawn, in large groups throughout perennial borders, or mix up lots of different bulbs for an extravagant bulb show.
After the bulbs are done flowering, allow the plants foliage to die back naturally so that the bulb can collect energy to bloom again in the following years.
