This video shows you how to plant up a container with summer bedding plants; we have used a fibre-clay tub which resembles a classical lead planter, but you can use anything you have lying around; an old basket, pair of willies, wooden fruit box. The key is to pack in plenty of plants; to keep the cost down fill gaps with the cheap bedding which comes in packs, such as lobelia, petunias, begonia semperflorens, bizzy lizzies. You can plant in a colour theme or just go for a riot of colour; when it comes to summer bedding, anything goes. If you don’t know how to colour theme your container just go for a single variety of plant, such as geraniums, begonias or petunias. To achieve the symmetry of a mixed container remember to have a variety of forms: an upright plant in the centre, surrounded by smaller upright plants then the trailers around the edge.
