Fire king player here, as much as the theory of branded into fire king is good, personally I find that when you know the branded match up well you can set up boards to counter it. So far I haven’t lost to a single branded player and in those games I never opened ash, and the times I did I never needed I didn’t even need it. I also sometimes had no disruption it was just full gas breaking their board. The issue is going first you can end on a board with apo for 2 + amblowhale which A: plays around super poly and B: has 2 very important negates that make it hard for branded to break the board. The gimmick lock is a thing but it requires 2 things. A: you have to win the dice roll and B: pray they don’t open 1 of 4 bystials they side.
I got 7th in an OTS because I opened with Tragedy, Solemn Strike, super poly, Branded Retribución and called by in the match deciding Game into snake-eye Fire kings. You cant always win 😂
