I've always loved using the barricades and impact nades to "redesign" rooms with new entrances and walls to make it easier for teammates to rotate or at least throw off the attackers with something unexpected. Always keep the floor plan in mind and never assume your barricades will stay up for very long. Castle is a glorified construction worker, just let him renovate

the UMP 45 and castle have benefitted immensely from the sight rework during shadow legacy, having a 1.5x sight as opposed to the normal 1x sights has turned the UMP into essentially a slightly nerfed AR on defense.

I once had a game with Castle where I managed to completely barricade all entrances while the last enemy was still outside map Teammates then tore down all of em and died to runouts one by one. Enemy then managed to rush in at death's seconds, luckily the last teammate finished him off. Almost cost the round. They then complained why I put so many barricades on the entrances.

I really do think it’s weird that people think Castle needs a total rework. He just needs a buff to his UMP. His gadget actually is really good, you just need a really good understanding of the map and to communicate with teammates.

I main Castle for near a year now and my advice when you play kitchen in café is to place a "sorry we're close" on the little door. My mind with that is to pressure attackers coming from this side and kinda forcing them to go through the big window placing them in a fighting disadvantage. Then I make holes near the big door with the shotgun to have a nice 90° angle on this big door.

these helped out immensely. It really helped me out when you said to use the castle barricades to waste attacker utility or to make attackers work for the map control. And what I think is effective for me (on low elo at least), is to place the barricades so that it funnels the attackers into as less entry points into the site as possible. They'll be forced to waste utility to take the short route or take the long route and save the utility for when they're at the site (especially during the last minute of the round -- ive seen many players end up panicking to get into the site because they dont have the right utility or dont have utility at all to get access to the shorter routes)

1.5x, angled grip, stendo barrel. 1.5 because it makes headshots just that much easier. Angled grip to help win unexpected gunfights and be a little more aggro and extended barrel to help with your long range ttk

I found that using the UMP on burst fire with a flash hider and grip can be quite effective. There's very little recoil and now that castle has the Super Shorty secondary, he can be pretty versatile.

you know who the perfect counter to castle is: sledge, ash, fuze, literally anyone with a breach charge, and angry roamers with impacts

Castle is good for wasting time towards the end of the round.

As a caste main and yes I’ve been playing him on defense since Ela was a god. One main thing I’ve learned is focusing an enemy’s attention on a certain part of a map, making it easy for your roaming teammates I.e Cav; to get those easy picks. Second thing I’ve learned is unless your a head shot god don’t put to much faith in the UMP it great for tagging toes under your mats or to just harassing the enemy again tag them once and circle off. The M45 pistol is super reliable if it comes down to it don’t be afraid to whip that boy out. Third the barriers can also be used as sound q device basically if they blow it up you know where they are without risking pinging on cams. Also usually a team won’t just destroy a Castle mat without going through it after, in that way they are very strong funnels. DO NOT CASTLE UP THE OBJ looking at you noobs if you see your castle doing this shoot him and save yourself the round; mat should always go on the surrounding room of OBJ and maybe a common attacker entry. Remember roamers have to make quick decisions on where to rotate and it’s very easy for you to F that up. Impacts always and think of the map as your own maze secret back doors made by blowing holes through walls to watch a mat from afar can net easy kills when attackers start pushing. If your not a loner mute helps a lot with this. Lastly try not to double up and pick him twice in a row, if your first defense work switch off to a heavy roam strat because most likely the attackers have been chosen with you in mind I.e sledge. To anyone wondering I’m Gold 1 Castle main about 1400 hours with him 1.3 kd 1.0 win lose. GGs to all have fun don’t die peace.

The Fact that he has the super shorty shotgun now makes him much better in my eyes, he can close doorways, open a ton of new rotations (instead of just 2 with impacts) and still have either a camera for watching flanks or 2 impacts to break his bulletproof doors for a nasty surprise to any poor attacker getting too close to it. I always loved castle, but it felt like he was missing something for me to be able to safely say "Im a castle main". The shorty was that something (in my case)

Castle is one of my favourite Operators out there. If I see Villa, it's Castle Time for me. Holo, Extended Barrel, Vertical Grip was my Config, at least till they revised the ADS back up. So now it's mainly Red Dot, Angled Grip and Muzzle Brake. Still very effective.

Ash/Castle were my Day 1 operators. As soon as I saw what they could do, mained them and never looked back (I also secondary Thermite and Pulse cause tbh the entire SWAT team is solid imo.) Castle is a very solid, well rounded character. In a game where teamwork is vital, he fits in like the last puzzle piece to every team.

Nothing better than listening to the attackers desperately claw at your barricade as the last few seconds of the round slip away.

Castle+Mute are such a dream team. What's better than a utility sink? A borderline indestructible utility sink. It forces their thatcher to use their emp's on what is essentially already a time waster. It also mitigates the fuze charge problem. I usually only put mute jammers on windows though, so avoid twitch drones and thatchers. One of the only problems I can think of is Kali's gadget.

You forgot to mention the barriers are Maverick-able and I've used them quite a lot to catch unaware enemies who thinks they're safe bcs the Castle isn't gone yet

First priority as Castle IMO (IN RANKED), is blocking line of sight first, blocking entry second. Skyscraper Work Office/Exhibition is the only one I know. Barricade the wide entry from Clearance into Lounge to block the line of sight from the window that can see pretty much every defender rotation into the bombsites. Barricade the Terrace door leading outside that is closest to Lounge, but impact the soft wall next to it first. This allows runouts against attackers on the south balcony but makes it safer to cross through Terrace. Last barricade can go anywhere you think an attacker will use but won't block your own team's rotations, e.g. west Work Office window, Clearance window, one of the windows from Dragon into Terrace, maybe even go downstairs if you're feeling spicy.

I've started using a really dumb strategy on Cafe with Castle now that he has the super shorty. If on Reading, break open the wall to Utility, castle off the door, and then set up a deployable shield or a single reinforced wall there. This position is dumb, but it's gotten me more kills than I can count on people pushing from lobby, simply because you have a very strong defensive position and can cover the person holding the stairs also from reading. That's two ops for a single point, so as long as you have a Mira or someone that can set up something that can let you hold the other site from there, you're golden.

I feel like Castle's in a solid spot right now and the only change I would make to his gadget would be a quality-of-life change for solo queuers/Casual players or generally anybody in a low-coordination environment. Defenders would be able to walk up to a barricade, hold F, draw a crowbar and instead of removing the barricade completely, pry it away from the doorframe and swing it open like a makeshift door. After walking through, they'd re-secure it like normal. Obviously this wouldn't really change his overall strength, moreso it would make it less of a headache to deal with an unskilled Castle player on your team, locking you out of the objective for example.

Another utility for it that not a lot of people use outside pro leagues is to sort of change the path that attackers will take. If theres a certain way you want attackers to go for a trap or a sneaky murder hole you have, try having your castle block of a way around it. Attackers are more likely to take a different route than to waste their breaching tools on a castle barricade that isnt directly by the objective.

Castle is by far one of the best offensive operators, as his ability allows him to lock vigil, jager, and any other roamer out of the objective.

There’s always that one castle that hides in a closet enclosed by their bulletproof barricades.

When defending in Kid's Dorm on Stadium, if you Castle the main window and then impact the wall to the right, you can then Castle off the door into the same room as before, making a control zone for the window and stairs. If you got a Mute, Jager, or Wamai, then you're completely set to defend that objective.

The way I personally play Castle on CEO bank, I castle the double door in couch, reinforce the wall next to it, and castle the front door in the mini hallway next to the other castle. Then I impact Janitor and put a castle on the door there. I mainly want to protect the team from that massive window peak from parking, especially since people found out that Kali is really good peeking to that site.

As a castle main I learned a lot of new strats and now more people realize how useful he is for blocking off lines of sight and wasting enemy utility.

Now that castle has the scope, secondary shotgun, and a bulletproof, he’s not too bad. The ump isn’t top tier by any means, but it’s got pretty solid time to kill, low recoil and a nice scope, and the bulletproof needs smart placement to stop it getting meleed, but is useful, and the super shorty is extremely useful. The main issue is the super long prep phase when you have to make rotates

When you’re on aviator/games castling off the study door is basically necessary. It’s such a common route for people to go.

The reason you would use the red dot, angled grip, and the long barrel is for quicker target acquisition (best reticle), very controllable recoil, and you don't have to worry about taking longer ranged engagements with the long barrel. When I use the UMP45 I like to know that I don't need as many shots to kill like you did here: 0:23

I love playing fuse against castle because the defense always trusts that nothing is coming through their castle barricades until it’s too late

Another point to consider: You greatly enhance the castle panels' usefulness if you bring jager/wamai AND a mute because then you can protect the castle panels from ash/zofia/grenades AND breach charges. But if they bring a sledge then castle is pretty much useless.

On arctic boat map (Canadian one I forgot the name) in kitchen you can castle off the freezer and put an impact hole in the wall next to it, thisll stop you from getting peeked from the commonly breached wall opposite the door, then barricade the door opposite the double door. Reinforce all the walls on the freezer side and you have the whole left side of kitchen which is locked off unless they hard breach.

My strategy with castle is to use the shupah shorty to make rotations next to doorways in some maps, and then castle the doorway. There will be no reason to blow up the doorway, because you can go through the rotation as a attacker. But it changes the angles, cover, and starts for the attckers.

Castle just got his minor buff. Tips: --Packing the super shorty means you don't need the impact nades you lost. It's extremely useful for flanking. --PROXIMITY ALARMS. these are extremely useful. Place them at staircases/popular flanking routes and places then where they can't be shot or noticed until it's too late. --UMP means you need to surprise people. You need the advantage and Castle's new loadout gives you the tools you need to do it. The objective site is yours to mold now.

Unpopular opinion: Castle and Ash should switch roles. Castle, as an attacker, can use his barricades to block/shut out flanking roamers from reaching the objective room when the attackers move in, forcing them into either using nitro cells/impact nades to destroy the barricades or funneling into sightlines the attackers already control. Ash, as a defender, can use her high speed and breaching charge launcher to make her an effective roamer/flanker with some area-denial potential with said launcher, as well as maintaining her role as a Castle pseudo-counter.

So, I double barricaded that spot on chalet, it was a 1v1 with 20 seconds left... the guy went down the hatch... best clutch of my life

So, I don't comment on RU-vid, but I'm too hyped for the Pulse video to not thank you. I send your videos to friends to teach them to play new ops, and I have been trying to glean new tips on Pulse anywhere I can. Maining Thermite and Mute got me Gold in Burnt Horizon after starting in Grim Sky, and one day I basically told my team that if I anchored and supported one more, GORRAM ROUND, OF SITTING IN THAT OBJECTIVE, I SWEAR- and now I'm a Pulse main as well. Alibi is fun, but Pulse is legal wallhacks. The M45 Meusoc is good for me, and it has actually given me several clutches. What the hell is that shotgun though. I got a 4k in a round, sometimes it works good, mostly you're better with the UMP- I digress. Thank you for these videos. There's lots of good tips to expand how people use these ops, and it's got some humor to keep it from being super dry. I appreciate it, Gregor.
