if you DM doesn't let you have your steel defender be a van, consider using the steel defender to make Metalhead, the robot turtle that Donatello built in the 2012 cartoon
I can still kind of believe it the first time but for me each time he says it it get's less and less likely. Addition: But it's a case of he says it once, 1% chance he's being truthful. Now that you have all 4 Turtles, I think it'd be an interesting video to show how well they could play off each other and any hidden synergies they might have.

What race would that be? There's no canon rat-folk race, so Bugbear or maybe Firbolg seem to be the best options. He's clearly a Monk as he has no gimmick that would indicate otherwise, and despite flavor issues I'd says he's a Way of the Drunken Master Monk. Drunk Monks are the best straight martial artists and the Drunken Frenzy at 17th level would pair WONDERFULLY with Bugbear's extra reach. As an aside, we're calling the cane a quarterstaff because why not?

Just FYI, I don't think you're understanding the second ability of Polearm Master correctly. It doesn't make it so that you can make opportunity attacks with a reach weapon (unless you're looking at a revised version that I don't know about), you can already do that (opportunity attacks trigger when the creature leaves your reach). It's actually way better than that - it lets you make an opportunity attack when a creature *enters* your reach. So you get the attack when they run away *or* get close to you.

I like to think the opening bit wasn't actually scripted and was instead just the actual conversation between Readus and Tulok about how the channel plug should work.

It takes a true ninja to not be a ninja at all! DEATH TO EXPECTATIONS!!!!!!! Heh, i fully expected the build to do SOME artificer levels, of course, but wasnt expecting it to be full 20. I love it when I get these swerves. Now we just need to list all 4 turtles and see how effective of a party they would be. Maybe convince april to tag along with some cleric levels? Casey jones being a barbarian?
Casey Jones is a Battlemaster Fighter and you can't convince me otherwise. Some levels of Barbarian might be good as he is the second angriest character, but his main shtick is doing weird things with a variety of weapons (frequently improvised) and that plays perfectly into the Battlemaster Fighter's wheelhouse.
@@caeligocielo5634 I will be honest, i always saw him as less skilled but more brutal and while his weapons arent exactly standard, they all follow his sports theme. Plus the only armor he wears is a hockey mask which isnt exactly plate armor. It could be made to go either way so im hardly going to demand a duel to satisfy my honor. THIS time. /intense glare
@@chrishubbard64 It might vary depending on which Casey Jones we're talking about, but I grew up with the '03 version who was definitely more skillful than brutal. If nothing else he definitely used the trip maneuver a lot, so if there are no levels in Battlemaster then he should at least pick up the feat that lets you grab a Battlemaster maneuver and gives you a superiority di for it.
@@caeligocielo5634 I mainly grew up with the original movie where casey jones wasnt unskilled, but they never made any real reference to him being a master of arms. He basically kept pulling out different sports gear to land cheap shots on raphael for example. But raph was clearly better at fighting, he just got caught off guard with a cricket bat and casey booked it. And again, he doesnt wear armor, so while a trip fighter would make sense feat wise, it doesnt match his gear setup. On the other hand, he isnt really a raging barbarian type either, I mean, he does get mad, but he is also a clever fighter, so maybe a monk build would suit better? He tends to use club type weapons, bats, hockey sticks, etc, he doesnt wear gear so unarmored defense, he is quick on his feet when he wants to get away so unarmored movement. And while i dont THINK monks get trip, you could always reflavor stunning strike for that. But then again, tulok doesnt automatically do optimized builds so a dip into battlemaster for trip and improvised weapon feats could also be in the build. After all, he doesnt have a lot of the monk abilities either. Oh, give him a level of bard for vicious mockery. He got raph REALLY upset with those insults!
Iron Defender should be "Metal-head". The 2012 version of the TMNT Donatello built a robot turtle out of damaged Krang robot parts. It would be a two legged defender instead of a "party wagon" too small for even one turtle to ride on.

One of these days Tulok's really going to get us. He's going to assure us that Character X absolutely 100% has levels in class Y... And then he'll actually give them those levels. We'll never see it coming. Anyway, what's everyone's favorite incarnation of the turtles? Mine is the 2003 Turtles.
I was born and raised with the '03 turtles and so they'll always hold a special place in my heart. That being said the 2012 turtles turned out surprisingly well especially in later seasons. I doubt any future incarnations will be able to surpass the '03 turtles, but the 2012 ones were a good tribute and excellent introduction for younger audiences.

How about Holo the Wisewolf from Spice & Wolf? Skills that fall naturally to her: Nature, Survival, Intimidation and Animal Handling (she's a BIG ass wolf) Deception and Persuation (she does convince Lawrence to buy her sweets on a regular basis) Some of her abilities (not sure how all of them translate into D&D): Wolf Form (can transform into a wolf the size of an elephant that can claw through stone) Human Form (she can hide those ears and her tail, she just prefers hiding them with clothes) Ageless (while her true age is unknown even to her, she is at least 800 years old) Sharp Senses (can listen in on conversations from FAR away and has an acute sense of smell letting her detect poison and snacks) Detect Lies (can always tell if someone is lying) Howl (can produce an ear-piercing howl that sends lesser canines fleeing in terror) Sprout Wheat (as a harvest goddess, she can make wheat sprout instantly) Reside in Wheat (she claims that she exists in the wheat, an ability not really expanded upon) Speak with Animals (well, wolves at least) As a former pack leader having some wolves as companions/familiars wouldn't be out of character.
That honestly sounds like straight Druid, probably Circle of the Moon to get access to bigger and better wild shapes (to account for her wolf-y form). Sadly I haven't been able to watch the anime yet as I haven't been able to find where I CAN watch it without sailing the seven seas, so I don't know if there's anything in particular that's missing.
So, it's worth noting that the tortal can actually wear armor. And no, I'm not talking about shields. You can wear regular armor. You just won't gain any effects from it, meaning it won't add to your AC at all. That being said of the 4 dm's played with, all of them have been okay with using barding rules to apply armor to yourself that would increase your AC
Unfortunately, shield of faith didn't make it into the final print of the expanded spell list for artificer. A lot of the expanded spell lists were changed. Instead of shield of faith, Donatello might have faerie fire. He's got infrared goggles and has ways to see invisible creatures. He doesn't have blind-fighting like his brothers do, so that might be a decent way to get around that.

Casey is a Battlemaster Fighter and I won't be convinced otherwise. As for the Shredder, I'd thought of a few ways to build him but it boils down to starting in either Paladin (Conquest) or Fighter (Rune Knight or Echo Knight) and then going Rogue (Assassin or Scout). This gives you the heavy armor proficiency and great damage, with the levels in Rogue compensating for the stealth issues. The simplified pros for each split is: Paladin (Conquest) gives Smite (damage) and Guided Strike (!!+10!! to hit) Fighter (Rune Knight) gives you Stone Rune (dark vision + a stun) and later (7th level, if you take that many fighter levels) Storm Rune (can't be surprised and makes you generally better at things) Fighter (Echo Knight) gives you an Echo (obviously) that will let you flank enemies by yourself (if your DM is cool) and makes good thematic sense for a ninja. This MIGHT be especially good with the Scout's 17th level ability which gives you an extra Sneak Attack per turn if used against a separate target. Rogue (Assassin) lets you hit REALLY hard on your first turn and at the 17th level lets you (maybe) one-shot things, as well as some decent ninja flavoring. Rogue (Scout) gives you some mobility bonuses and the aforementioned extra Sneak Attack. Simply put: Take 3 levels of Fighter or Paladin to reach the subclass, then 11 levels of Rogue to reach Reliable Talent (which functionally negates the Heavy Armor stealth penalty) and then decide if you want one of those juicy 17th level Rogue abilities or if you want some of the Fighter/Paladin stuff instead. If your DM is cool Echo Knight 3 / Scout 17 is probably the best combination, elsewise I'd say Conquest 3 / Assassin 17 for some MASSIVE damage in the first hit (if your target is surprised you auto-crit which doubles ALL the damage dice including Sneak Attack and Smite, assuming they fail the CON save to not simply DIE).
For our goals for this build, we're going to want to pick up some monk levels so we can be a ninja that teaches other ninjas how to be ninjas. Then, we'll need to be able to guide our sons into being better ninjas. Finally, we need some sick sword skills. Sure you're holding a cane most of the time but when your sons are in danger, you can be as ferocious as a momma bear. Or a daddy rat. We'll be starting off as a Tabaxi, yes I know they're cats but ask your GM if you can trade out one set of ears for another. Using standard array, roll for stats if you want but keep your wisdom high for multiclassing with monk. Wisdom will be number one, you're an old man raising four teenage boys, and they mostly listen to you. Next is dexterity, you're a ninja. Ninjas mean dexterity. Next we've got Charisma. You're pretty well liked, being the cool dad both to your kids and their friends. After that is Intelligence, you're the boys' teacher as well as their father Lower on the list is Strength, I haven't seen Master Splinter throw robots across the room but correct me if I'm wrong Lastly, we're dumping constitution. Your old age is starting to catch up with you. Now let's continue to explain why 20 levels of battle master lets you do everything Master Splinter does, then give a short explanation why nothing from Monk actually fits Splinter.
@@1manApocalypse_CP Then again, these are suggestions, not codified law. I've been using Tulok's build-vids as blueprints for my own characters. I have a Scourge Aasimar Paladin/Monk named "Jasmine The Rose Knight" based on Tulok's Jonathan Joestar build- only I went with "Oath Of Glory" for the Paladin levels, and "Way Of The Kensei" for Monk levels... Jazzy hurls steel clackers for her Kensei Shot.
