How to build Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles | Dungeons & Dragons 

Came here to say exactly that about Katanas = Longswords; approximately, anyway.

Actually despite them being called katanas, the design you most often see Leo use are ninjato swords. Which are shorter than katanas and have a straight blade. He's skilled in using katanas and is trained in dual weilding them, but just based on the design you most often see him with, they aren't his actual primary weapon. They've just been called the wrong thing over the years.

This is either a major issue for ever hitting with an attack, a matter of style, a willingness to be smugly stubborn, or just a confusion on sword nomenclature that couldn’t be more common in DnD. My opinion is the later. Longswords in DnD aren’t what HEMA people and sword historians call longswords, first off. A katana is more or less functionality similar to real life longswords, as they are primarily designed as two handed weapons. However the longswords listed in the Player’s Handbook for all versions if DnD have always been listed as one handed weapons. This type of sword would most likely be classified as an arming sword or perhaps a side sword, depending on hilt design. Of course there is the bastard sword (aka the hand and a half sword). I’ve heard of katana being treated as master-work bastard swords in DnD. All of this being said, visually Leonardo has almost always been depicted as using non curved blades, most importantly in my opinion in the original Mirage Comics, which being not only the first but most brutal by far, official version of Leonardo is the best basis for his inclusion in DnD. Ultimately in my opinion what matters the most is the dice. If the Tortle race is given a natural claw attack that does d6, the the swords should do at least d8 or else they’re meaningless. Giving a first level character d10 damage rolls from two master-work weapons feels like even more unnecessarily excessive favoritism for Leonardo shown by Master Splinter to be even marginally fair. He outfitted Donatello with a friggin stick for gosh sakes. So give Leo the d8 swords, but not master-work and definitely not curved swords. If you read all of this, thank you. If you disagree, go to the 6th hell. This is the final ruling on this matter.

no he shafted Michelangelo the most he gave him a lame stick called the nunchucks if you have a stick the same length and thickness of nunchucks except without the chain in the middle thay would be far more effective weapons

Samurai fits in name and theme, but not mechanics. Throwing a subclass which relies on bonus actions onto a dual wielding build causes congestion.

It just feels better to have the katana be longswords, this will allow Raph's sai to be short swords now, rather than daggers.

Agile parry is good for this build too. Use a Ki point and kick your opponent in the head while dual wielding for a +2 AC boost.

I second that. Only Slyfox has attempted that before and he had to use a dragonmark (from Eberron).

You can dual wield no matter what, but if you don't have the fighting style then you don't get to add your ability modifier to the damage.
