Today we have a build for Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls in Dungeons & Dragons. Only in a game like D&D 5e could Charisma be considered a super power. Twitter: / tulokthe Patreon: / tulok
To be fair, it only took Stan 30 years to rebuild the portal because he only had 1/3 of the information needed to make it work. It took him to get his hands on the other two journals to get it working.
honestly, the fact alone he could teach himself all that type of engineering/science, as WELL as run a business (it took him a couple tries, but the mystery shack is pretty successful all things considered) just points to the fact that both the stans are equally as intelligent, Stan probably just learns differently then Ford.
@@willnelson9906 Ford is book smart while Stan is street smart. But Stan proved constantly that everything he's tried to do has been for his family and to get his brother back one way or the other.
@@willnelson9906 and especially keep that secret and not get help from anyone. Like, he'd have to get the Equipment somewhere aswell as the Information of where that toxic waste was that he used to fuel the Portal. That guy was Multitasking 24/7 for three damn decades
@@willnelson9906 in fairness, Stan was simply rebuilding the portal which he still had the remains of, and a complete set of blueprints. His brother needed to fully design the thing
@@Lordgrayson 'simply' rebuilding an inter-dimensional portal is a bit of an oxymoron. i very much doubt the blueprints were written in laymans terms, to say the least. while ford Did fully design it, what stan did is nothing to spit at, especially for a guy who wasn't considered 'academically' smart
I'm surprised to not see any Rogue levels in this build. I mean, Cunning Action and natural thieves tool's proficiency is absolutely a skill Stan would have. Also I kinda like the idea of EVERYONE in the Mystery Shack crew having at least a few levels in Rogue, given all the... TOTALLY not-illegal stuff they may or may not get up to XD
It's actually because he uses sanctuary, mirror image, unbreakable majesty and the dodge action. If she wanted to hit, she'd need to succeed a wisdom and charisma saving throw, stan to roll 5 or lower, and to hit with disadvantage.
So there's a theory that stan, Rick and Eda used to be a crew in their younger days. So Stan is the face, Rick is the brains, and Eda is the muscle/powerhouse.
Rick would actually be with Stanford, since their portals canonically interact. And Eda married Stanley in a Las Vegas wedding before stealing his car, which took place long before the portal ever got fixed. (And perhaps before it ever even got working.) So unfortunately there's no trio shenanigans, but there are technically two separate duos that are possible.
See Eda and Stan I can see. They do most certainly feel like two characters with similar interests existing in stories that definitely could be interlinked somewhere. Rick on the other hand, nah. He's an utterly narcissistic, unlikeable, miserable nihilist with a god-complex. Additionally, Eda and Stan only seem moral-less at first glance. But they care about people deeply, at least the right ones. They are probably not gonna hang out with the drunk murder-hobo that is Rick Sanchez.
If you're taking Planeshift to rescue ford (Though I would say that is more of a Gate thing myself, but you work with what you have), you can also justify getting Reverse Gravity as a Magical Secret if we are in the business of recreating iconic scenes.
I feel like Stan should have had Dissonant Whispers as a spell, it's "Curse at people" but also they run away. It's a damage option that works for the character and without it Stan doesn't do much to deal damage.
Stan is my favourite character in the show, to the point where I actually made a character inspired by him. Mine was a human paladin specialising in bare-knuckled boxing.
Here's a fun spell to use magical secrets for in this build, Wristpocket. For those unaware it's a 2nd level spell that takes an action to cast and lasts for an hour with concentration (can be ritual casted). You flick your wrist, causing one object in your hand to vanish. The object, which only you can be holding and can weigh no more than 5 pounds, is transported to an extradimensional space, where it remains for the duration. Until the spells ends, you can use your action to summon the object to your free hand, and you can use your action to return the object to the extradimensional space. An object still in your pocket plane when the spells ends appears in your space at your feet. This just feels very in character for Stan whether he can actually succeed in deceiving people with the spell or not. Love the build regardless
My wife and I *just* finished watching Gravity Falls the other day, and then this crops up. It's a fantastic show, so glad we got to experience it, and Stan is easily one of the best characters.
"Here, a movie. You and your crush watch it, she leans closer to you, you slide your arm over the shoulder and next thing you know you gotta raise a kid and your life is ruined"
I'm so glad to finally see this build! I had to bail on Patreon because of money issues, so I had seen the poll where it won but didn't know when it would come out. Stan sounds like he'd be a hoot to play at any table where the GM isn't a war-gamer; with damage that low, unavoidable combat will either suck for you or the rest of your party while you hide. Honestly, with a CR that high, Bill wouldn't even be in the monster manual. He'd be a Warlock Patron that probably functions like Wild Magic Druid, what with all the chaos.
Good to see Stan and I like your take on him. You have a couple levels where you don't pick a spell, so you could have traded one of those up to get Mind Blank rather than "wasting" the Lv 9 spell on it. Foresight could have stood in for his decent survival based luck.
Honestly, Grunkle Stan would arguably be an amazing party member to have. Not super conducive to things going well necessarily, but very fun and memorable
I want Dipper, Mabel, and Sous. Maybe Wendy....If you have time. I feel like Mabel would be a bard as well definitely influenced by Stan (See her bet with Wendy in The Last Mabelcorn) but I'm not sure about the others.
I think the best description of Stan, and I cannot for the life of me remember what it was from was "a scammer with a heart of passable gold substitute"
Stan is 3 things: Svindler; Thief; Fighter. Also at least physically strong enough to consistently one shot undead through physical damage. Stan almost repaired the Portal with only 2 Books, 1 of which he would have had for about a month. Finishing it with only some code once he got the 3rd, not to mention having the Journals should have given him a good amount of knowledge. It should earn him at least 1 level of Artificer.
I forgot this was on the schedule! What a fun bamboozler you've built here. Now I've got to go watch the scene where he punches a triangle in the eye on loop for twenty to thirty minutes.
A man can make himself a mockery or a spectacle for the outside eyes, but beneath the facade of a scammer there is the soul of a stingy tax evasor and a gambling deceiver who still knows when family take priority over all. Stanley Pines is the owner of the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap for the gullible where he finance himself selling oddities of any kind (maybe even a lemur with some antlers? yet I'm still only interested on the Tangle the lemur build from Sir Tulok, please?) But when his nephews come to the weird lumber town of Gravity falls he might have to show his true colors if he truly want to keep his family together and safe.
Personally, would of gone straight bard or did rogue instead of fighter And taken Tavern Brawler for the feat. Stan’s a brawler it not a fighter. He’d sooner run then fight, but will use a chair as a weapon
I noticed when Stan is preparing for violence he has brass knuckles. I've had brass knuckles as reflavored maces before How do the rest of you feel about that?
Brass knuckles would probably be a d4 weapon. They’re meant to bring up an unarmed strike to base weapon damage. But I can see them as special modifiers that add damage to an unarmed strike instead
@@akmi1931 but brass knuckles aren't your bare fists and there is a matter if holding them correctly or they're useless. So there is a bit of training/experience needed. I can dude with it being a reflavored club though which is a d4
“Your wisdom save is really low so Hold Person and Charm Person take you out of the fight…” It’s a shame we don’t have anything to deal with that weakness, right? It would be nice if we had something like Freedom of Movement or Mind Blank… Oh, wait, we do
And over here, ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present to you the luckiest man alive, also known as the man who just watched Tulok the Barbarian‘s newest video!
Would love to see you try to build Arc Lalatoya from the anime "Skeleton Knight In Another World". Maybe even do Ariane Glenys Maple and Chiyome from it too!
AT LAST! AT LONG, LONG LAST! TULOK IS MAKING A GRAVITY FALLS CHARACTER!!! ...Ok, that first part was in poor taste, but I just couldn't resist. Hopefully this means we can look forward to a Ford build sometime soon. Sadly, he seems like the only other GF character who'd work; the kids are definitely not Level 20 and Bill isn't a PC, he's a patron and/or BBEG.
I think that this could work really well with someone else playing the Seto Kaiba build. Your scams can supply them with the cash they need for their spells.
Still pulling for Eglentine Price (Bednobs and Broomsticks), Mary Poppins, Councilor Troi (ST: tNG), Septimus Pretorius (Bride of Frankenstein), Winifred Sanderson (Hocus Pocus), Prince Voltron (Flash Gordon), Sir Dragonet King Arthur's jester (Iddyls of the King/ le Morte d'arthur), and the Reverend Doctor Syn (The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh).
To have Bill's stats just use Pennywise, I mean Nyarlathotep, I mean Pennywise.... Gaunter O'Dimm? Also the canon of the show is that Bill escaped into the real world, which is pretty dark.
I just tried to make this character on D&D Beyond, but I can't find the spot to add stealth or the +1 to charisma and dexterity, so I added them manually
Can we please get a build for natsu Dragneel or grey full buster from fairy tail I’m starting my first DND campaign ever and want to play as one of them
I'm disappointed to see he has no levels of Rogue, but I think Bard works well, too. Also, I'm glad I watched Gravity Falls, because the show has some great twists that this video would spoil otherwise. Build Wendy next!
How to build Rem from the ReZero anime??? Please I hope you see this Tulok, sure all the other weebs would check it out for the waifu love but she could be interesting within combat (use of her weapon and what mostly a martial class..?)
I think Acquisitions Inc is generally considered to be FR canon since it's DM'd by Chris Perkins and exists in a book created by WOTC set in the Realms.
