After all those countless youtube lessons about the CAGED system, you are the first one that explains it in human language. After 4min of watching your video, i already totally understand it. Thumbs up for your explenation! (edited a spelling mistake)
Holy. Crap. I never put together that you just count the next fret from the open chord shape until you get to the root your looking for... That's a complete eye opener for me!
Showing how to perfect the major chords all over the fretboard with the foundation chord shapes is really helpful man. It really gives more possibilities to go from!
this is actually what ive been looking for!! thank you so much. i think ive seen videos before covering this, but you did it a lot more clearly to me, thanks again!!
So glad you hear that the fretboard is becoming less mysterious. Once you know the caged shapes (major and minor) and the names of the notes across the fretboard, everything becomes so much easier to learn.
Love this, thank you once again..I think I should get a private lesson for being the 100th “liked....lol... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Ill be here learning thank you for all your lessons....
is it sensible to think you can use the E and E minor bar chords to find your I, ii, iii chord progressions and use A, A minor for finding IV, V vi chords? and THEN get into broader topics like CAGED? I like to think of CAGED for triad mapping and chord tone soloing.
Advice? I’ve been playing this small guitar since age 9. Just for myself. Always struggled holding down fret chords. And at age 65, my index finger has curved🤷♀️. Question: do some simply not have the finger strength do fret chords? Tried to send a few photos … didn’t go through.
@@brooksphillips2234 appreciate the suggestion! This sweet guitar needs attention overall. Several strings won’t stay tuned. I still hang on to her because the tone is really special

@copeland-vn4cq sounds like you need a good setup. Take it to a guitar shop and have them do a full set up. Tell them how you want the guitar to play and they will set the action to play how you like as well as adjust the truss rod if needed and set the intonation. Ask them if you need a new nut and get them to clean and condition the fretboard. If you go ahead and get it done right you want have to do it again unless you try to make a modification yourself and mess something up. A good setup can do wonders for how a guitar plays! Good luck!
what’s the next recommended video to watch after this to continue this dialogue? also for everybody he meant d string when he was talking about the a cord on the 2nd feet 👍
The feeling is completely normal. You’re just learning. Take it at your own pace and you’ll eventually get there. This is how I felt before learning guitar and now i’ve come this far.
remember gravity! it’s not always about how hard you press or straight the finger is, you can always do it different was that fits your still. hard straight press to a soft curved fleshy grab. let gravity do it’s thing, try different thumb positions.
