You can use Thomastik Flatwound strings to save the frets from scratches. This is basically modeled after an Electrified Gibson L5 (The K5 Mandocello is modeled after the L5), so it's basically an Electrified Cutaway K5.

Just bought a mondo cello on ebay, ..dumb me thought it was tuned same as octave mandolin .. nope. now I’m torn whether to keep or not... help!

Your finger positions like you are tuned to C G C G

This instrument should be an electric 8 string baritenor guitar instead of mando cello.

In this video it doesn't seem like you are in C G D A tuning. Your
