Thanks for the comment. Middle Earth has my favourite cover system of any game. If half of a target is obscured it makes sense that it's twice as difficult to hit. An elf will still hit on a 3+ while a goblin will hit on a 5+ but once you have hit to get past a piece of cover is a 4+ regardless

It's my favourite battle system by far. It would be a great system to use in a dungeon crawl if you wanted to!

You could buy the fellowship of the ring and the goblin set with the troll and that then play dungeons and goblins

Thanks mate! I've been asked a few times so I will have to make a video out of it at some point. The key paint is Sybarite green. If you apply this over a white base coat it goes on pretty quickly. The skin was just a regular human skin tone mixed with a bright red I don't have an exact proportion just mixed it until it matched what I wanted. I did the cloth in yanden yellow (now averland sunset). Then all the pike shafts and hair were in a crème. Then everything got a wash in nuln oil and to do my highlights I just added a small drip of white each layer. Why did I paint my army like this? I have seen 100's of Uruk Hai all painted the regular way and wanted something a bit more artistic and unique. The inspiration behind the colour choice was oxidised copper. It might not be everyone's favourite but you haven't seen another Uruk Hai army like it

This game is a lot cheaper you don't need any where near as many models and the second hand market has a lot of stuff on it. But I recomend getting into which ever game seems like more fun to you. If you choose a game simply because its cheap you may not enjoy it as much. Personally I would always say to pick Middle Earth though!

@@astolbro7183 in game he is really solid. He costs almost the same as a decent captain and is just as strong but also has a few spells to sling around. Some people don't like his model but personally I am a fan of it

Thanks for the comment! I really like my elven armour. It is a base coat of metal (leadbelcher), then that is totally covered with gold (I use ghenna gold for gw but I would recommend looking at other golds this one isn't very good), then it gets a brown wash (agrax Earth shade), and finally highlighted with the brightest silver you can find

Oddly that's what I prefer, and I like that there isn't too many confusing abilities like 40k😅

@John_on_the_mountain oh yeah it's awesome, these past few years I've been researching and doing projects on the 100 year war and such and now I love the push back rule when fighting, I love how turns are taken and I mean who doesn't love lotr. This games a masterpiece, one of my favs for sure

Of all of Games Workshops games this is often refered to as the game that requires the largest amount of skill. There is a huge amount of micro managing. Yes the side that roll higher wins the fight but there are numerous ways to maximise how many dice you roll and who wins on a draw. Also you are able to spend resources to alter your dice giving you tactical options. In a 'How to play' video it's hard to go deep into tactics. I would recommend having a look at the Conquest Champions league finale to get an idea of the depth of the game

Pellanor fields is a great starting point! You could do an easy conversion on the morranons to make a captain and a shaman and you have a full army!

Dunno if you've already got an answer elsewhere but cavalry with lances get +1 to their wound rolls in combats in which they charged. You cannot shoot a bow and charge. Only throwing weapons can be used while charging.

Model who are fighting are in base contact with each other so its very easy to keep track of. Charging is only relevant for cavalry models where it is generally clear because if the player with cavalry moved first then they would have charged. In any cases were it isn't clear you can use tokens. Overall the game is easy to learn but hard to master. The key things to know are how movement, control zones, and combat works. After you get them you can start worrying about finer details. I would recomend starting with infantry armies with out magic that way you start with the easiest stuff to learn and can work your way up from there.

@@ConquestCreations Thanks for the quick reply. I will do just that (start with infantry only). I've only read through the rules book once and haven't put it into practice yet so it sort of bypassed me that charging really only matters when cavalry are performing the charge for the bonus.

I would definitely start with the Pellanor fields starter set. it gets you two solid armies. I would also get the Armies of Lord of the Rings. For terrain there are heaps of options the most fun one is to build it yourself. Start with some foam core or XPS foam and hack at it with a Stanley knife!

Building terrain is super fun, but if you're looking to buy some, Battle Systems makes some great, cheap, and easy to assemble stuff.

They do, initially this doesn't seem to be a big deal but when you roll more dice it comes up A LOT. For example if I have an elf with a spear support and a banner near by I roll two dice and can re roll one of them so I am much more likely to get a draw with you than if we each had one dice

The rules are still the exact same! Still just as relevant as when I first released it

It absolutely should! It's made by the same company and the initial rules were written by people who worked on the rules for Warhammer

It is a big departure from most other games but each model acing as an individual unit is what makes this game feel like a real battle. For me its one of the core features that makes this game stand out from all others as my favourite. It seems like a lot of rolling but it is very quick

No, you have to slay all enemies that were engaged in close combat (spears dont count) to be able to move again

One of the biggest strengths of Middle Earth is that it's basically the exact same game from the 1st edition. Stuff has been added on-top but the core mechanics are unchanged

@@ConquestCreations I'm a relatively newcomer to the game (Hoping to get into it myself quite soon actually) but I've known about it for years and have loved Lord of the Rings since forever. Could you say what's been added since 1st edition?

@@dr.feelgoodmalusphillips2475 The biggest change in the game is the number a new models and factions from when it first started out. In terms of the core rules the only big change has been the addition of several more heroic actions and spells. Other than that it is pretty much the same.

Great question! Normally he would have to if his warg was killed but the wrath of bruinen specifically says that all mounted models suffer 'knocked flying' on the thrown rider test. Prone models may use there shield still (pg. 91 of the main rules book). Thanks for the comment!

There are a few of the scenarios that just revolve around destroying you enemies. I reckon the first few years that I played the game all I did with my mates was play until someone is wiped out. But now I find that the scenarios where you need to get objectives are more fun because they make you move around the board and split up your army and they lead to a lot of really cool smaller skirmishes rather than a big brawl in the centre

@@ConquestCreations once I've played a few games (come on Victoria, hit that vaccination target I wanna play SBG) and can use some better tactics I might enjoy it more but for now I'll stick to what I understand... Crash and bash

The core rules haven't changed at all! Lots of extra characters and special rules have been added but the game is very much the same

@@ConquestCreations huh. Very interesting. I have experience with Warhammer 40k, so I know how generally that system works. And I understand that original Warhammer fantasy had more tactical elements in it which set things apart (especially compared to AoS). So I would like to ask, how does the core rules compare to what we have? Does it play out like it's more about tactics and manuevaring? It seems that way since it hasn't changed the core rules at all, but I haven't had the chance to play with the stuff yet. I wont lie, Lord of the rings might be the ONLY thing that's get me back into GWs tabletop gaming scene. I've grown rather wary of GWs frankly very anti consumer friendly ways and that's what pushed me away from the hobby as a whole. I didnt like how I felt like I had to bust out the wallet in order to be even close to viable on the table. I know that the pricing scene for Lotr isn't any different, but somehow I feel like i would get back into the game/hobby if i knew i didnt have to worry about the money meta. I was a Lotr fan before I was a warhammer fan, so i remember when the game was first released but i could never find people to play with. Tldr: my main concern is whether Lotr will still satisfy my desire for a more tactical play style. I get that army builds and composition is important, but I also hate metas. I like finding my own solution to problems on the battlefield with what I got. If that makes sense.

The 2h penalty and bonus only affect the 2h die - the spear die is unaffected by either.

the goblin captains are 35 points, Grinnah is 45 points and both are heroes of fortitude. The king is 130 points and a hero of legend. The scribe is a minor hero for 50 points Importantly the Goblin town army bonus is that you can lead an additional 6 models in each of your warbands so the King can lead 24 goblins!

@@ConquestCreations thanks, and what about let's say, when I have a soldier of gondor wins a fight against 3 uruk hai, I have to roll a dice for each uruk to inflict wound? And if my miniature had 2 attacks, should I roll 2 dices for each uruk to inflict wound?

Hoorown no, that Uruk would only be able to make one strike against one of the models he won against, if you had a captain for example with 2 attacks you could attack one with both, or attack two units with one attack.

@@Hoorown You just get to roll one dice. So you would have to pick one Uruk hai to target. This means that a model with 1 attack can only do a maximum of 1 wound in a combat.

The video got it right In the case of the Wrath of Bruien the models are knocked prone in the movement phase and are subsequently charged hence are still prone. In the case of the cavalry you are knocked prone before strikes are made so you are considered trapped (pg. 62 of the main rule book). Is there something that I have missed?

I was talking about the calvary charge I'm missing all kinds of stuff in the new rule book it use to be that the model backs away before being knocked prone
