Great video Ben! I work with Maria at Parker and she told me about your guitar playing and passion for music. I also play guitar! You have so much talent! I have major respect for flamenco players. I’ll check out more of your videos
Aww, thanks ND Creative! I try to get my message across as clearly as I can, especially without using jargon (or if I do use jargon...at least explaining what the jargon means); and without wasting your time...because time is a very valuable commodity. I wish you tons of success. Please, if you do have time, consider taking my "Flamenco Guitar Progress Killer Quiz" to see where you could get the most out of your practice time...I give you free stuff at the end too :)
¡Muchas gracias por ver mi video aunque está en inglés! He grabado solo algunos videos en español; aquí hay un enlace a uno de esos… ¡Rasgueados Lo Que Debes Sabre! | Técnicas de Guitarra Flamenca | Los Rasgueos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QfQRVtPRV1g.html
Great lesson, Ben, seriously! One thing I particularly enjoyed was how at 1:15 you said, "the stroke is going to cover particularly the bass strings", then at 1:23, you say, "Once again - same time with the golpe", and then you clearly hit all the strings with the trebles ringing quite nicely. Then, you look down, thinking to yourself, "Huh - what the fuck just happened there? I thought it was supposed to be primarily the basses!" :) Olé!
Oh man, I looked back at the times you mentioned, and am on the floor laughing man! You and I obviously share the same sense of humor. Thanks for watching friend!

Hi Bernt! Thanks so much. I’m glad you found it helpful. I’ll have to figure out what I did right in this video, because it is vastly the most viewed video I’ve ever made…and it was also the first video I ever made. Go figure. 🎸

Hi Leigh, great question! You can always do variations to this rhythm, just keep in mind that the accents will naturally fall in the & of 2 and the 4. Feel free to book a call with me here: calendly.com/flamenco4u/experiment1et
Thank you so much for this helpful video!! Just one little question: how do you get this kind of "double" sound when you strum at 3:30 ? Thank you again 😊😊🤘
Ahh yes! You have a good 👂! You get that “double” sound on the down-strum when you proceed the thumb with the index for an echo effect. If you want even more doubling, you can add a rasgueo before the index (e-a-m); then i, then thumb.
Can you teach us the "Ottmar Liebert Strum". It's the strum that goes to fast to figure out and when he plays it in his different arrangements it makes you want to get up and dance . thanks - your instruction is very easy to understand!just wondering have you watched the Ramzi El Rumbero "cool rumba flamenco chords" video . that's a very unique strum
Hi John! I actually am not familiar with that particular strum, forgive my ignorance. Is it something like Vicente Amigo's strumming in this Zapateado? ...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZUppdCKosZM.html ...The way you described the "strum" made my mind go straight to this song. Ramzi El Rumbero is the MAN! I'll go back and check that strum...
@@Flamenco4U wow! Vicente is on fire! Thanks for sharing and responding. I'll try to share a video from ottmar liebert but I'm limited with my knowledge of how to do that.At least I can search his songs and find which ones have show this strum he does.,It is really catchy and cool and a lot simpler .Keep up the playing and instruction! I enjoy it immensely!
@@Flamenco4U ottmar liebert snakecharmer www.youtube.com/watch?vNyF61KUTjJA the muted percussive strumming starts at 4:34 mark but i want to learn from the 5:08 mark when he plays chords
Hi John. I’ve uploaded a tutorial that shows you how to do that particular rhythmic pattern for rumba. You can watch that one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DAkAkP8WBdk.html
@@davidrmm5615 as I always say, as Manolo Sanlucar says, “ The guitar gives you exactly what you put into it; nothing more nothing less.“ Keep it up friend!
I feel like crying. No matter how much I can play. It’s never enough. Even the best of the best knows only a droplet in the ocean. When can we even learn that drop of water in the ocean?
Azaan, believe me, the world's masters of the guitar always disclose in interviews that the guitar is an instrument that is un-masterable (even they feel as professional musicians unable to conquer the guitar); but that is the beauty of the instrument. The secret to music is found in two steps "(i) Don't stop; and (ii) keep going." --Frank Zappa Learning an instrument is like learning a language. If we think of all thousands of words we don't know, we become completely overwhelmed; but if we learn just one word a day, we will have 365 at the end of the year! Keep playing!
Hi Jason! Thanks for watching. Make sure that your subscribe and tap on the bell for notifications for when I put out my lessons (usually at 9:00am PST on Wednesdays). My next lesson coming up is on how to play the lead guitar part for the most famous rumba ever…”Entre Dos Aguas.” 👍🎸
Nothx Soldier, hi! I’ve actually never picked up a Kremona as of yet, so I cannot comment on the feel of it; however, I would expect it to have a versatile sound-having a cedar top and and rosewood back and sides. I would think it would fall more on the classical side. When you get it, let me know what you think (e.g., sound, action, feel, etc.). I’d love to hear. Post a video clip of possible. All the best Nothx!
@@Flamenco4U I can't believe you still remember my comment..I actually never got to play that guitar due to the lack of time and other reasons. I still have it and love it. I hope I'll get to play some day :)
You’re an amazing teacher!!! I was trying to learn this move and I didn’t know the name of the (tap with ur finger) so i can search on RU-vid!! idk how i found you but thank you so much! Sub and like from me. Can’t wait to learn more from you again.
Great to hear that I was able to help unlock that mystery for you! Yeah, definitely stay tuned because next Wednesday I’ll be showing you more about the chord progression used in this video; and then the Wednesday after that I’ve got another lesson on how to do golpe while strumming at the same time!
Hi Jake. Thanks for the question! I do not usually use book for my lessons; however, some scales and exercises that I teach are derived--one way or another--from some instructional books that I have found to be helpful to students. I write all of the learning material provided in my instruction--most of which is tailored for each student.
i think the real difficulty arrives when trying to learn several of these rumba techniques simultaneously and the pragmatic part of your brain is saying "make up your damn mind bitch the hands are getting real confused!"
I couldn't have said it any better! When we are learning these rhythms, it's best to just concentrate first on the right hand first, and then drill that pattern into our brains so that the right hand can go on auto-pilot for that particular pattern. ...Once we get that pattern down, then we can concentrate on our chords. The next step is to go back to the right hand again, and learn new patterns with slightly different variations. ...Hey, I think I'll do a tutorial on that! Thanks!
@@Flamenco4U I play piano, and that's how we do it....Each difficult jump has to be practiced slowly. If you can do it slowly, you can do it fast... I am learning these forms now.... Thanks for this excellent lesson (the first stroke with the golpe is not easy:-) ))
Very clear lesson. I am a classical guitarist and I realize it's an ocean between the 2. Could you please tell me if the way the woman in this video is playing the same rumba you're teaching here ? : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wjs6eBEhmc0.html ? I have the impression it's a rumba she's playing but it has a more flamenco taste...while I always have the impression that the rumba is more a gipsy thing...and I really would like to learn the flamenco way rather than the gipsy way (I have an overdose of Gipsy Kings)
Thanks Kamal Triatholon! You have a good ear. The compas in that video, which you linked, is slightly different; it is actually Tangos. It is the same as "Como el Agua," which you can listen to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3KZyy8Oc1QA.html. I will have to post a video on this technique as well. You can actually transition between the two technique for a nice variation to your rumba.
I recently made a tutorial video where I cover this particular rhythm. Go and check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DAkAkP8WBdk.html
coldwater coldwater I recall someone asking the same thing a while back, and…no…I’m not in the bathroom…but that’s not to say that the bathroom is a bad place to practice your instrument-just make sure to wash your hands 😉.
