Hi! I'm a master tier midlaner trying to reach chall next season. I'm seeing a lot of improvement in my games, all thanks to you. Your guides are a big help. Thank you so much Shok, really
Loving this channel and these full detail guide. With the tank meta, I been loving Cassiopeia. Not many mages these days can burn down tanks with 5-6k hp.
i just palyed vs a seju and i was giga fed. no chance in the 1v1 not even close... she had Heartsteel, FH, FoN and Abyssal mask. I was fullbuild with Voidstaff and did absolutely nothing to her
@@ChrisTomatoPie liadry, cap, dark and void? Each of ur E should hit for like 350-400. I just spam Q+E like a machine gun on them. U heal just as fast. Unless they have 1 or 2 hp based AD item.
@@Eqnotalent i didnt have demonic. i had RoA, ArchA, Cap, Morell, Void. Trust me, i was mindboggled by the amount of slow/cc sej had. Giga tanky and insane dmg... no chance
Coach Shok's Ryze guide and Coach Curtis' Yone guide are the two guides I've been waiting for! Decided a few days ago that my mid pool would be TF, Ryze, and Yone so I got really lucky with those two guides coming out so soon :D
Do you ever see yourself doing a Tristana mid guide? It's an S-tier counterpick in your tier list and in my opinion a very versatile pick. You can play for lane, get plates, and also easily get solo kills with good wave management. But you can also go for a roaming playstyle and have pretty much permanent lane priority. I think you are the best league of legends "educational content" on RU-vid with coach curtis and it would be interesting to see how you think it's meant to be played.
Possibly, I think there are other champions that are less niche that should be covered first but I like adcs mid so I'd be down for a trist guide at some point
I've been wanting to pick up Ryze, this is perfectly timed. Having to change my champ pool for the new season. Grateful for the incredible content as always!
I just realized Ryze is one of the most played mid champs in top 100 ladder. I guess the point-and-click consistency makes him a great pick overall. After years in master/GM maybe it will finally help me hit chall lmao. Great tutorial.
I love the champion guides. Twisted Fate is my favorite champion and there isn't much content on him - maybe you could consider him next? Lissandra is also getting really popular so maybe she would be good too? Thanks for the time and effort you put into these!
I think Curtis has a really good TF guide, I'm not really much of a TF player so it'll be a while before I do one. Lissandra could be in the near future though!
Irelia next!!! I see you talk about her all the time, and although I wreck with her in top lane mid has more ranged matchups which im not used to. Also Ive been playing a bunch of ryze, and like his mobility for a dps AP champ. I do really need to practice his ranges better though
hey! I am only p4 peak but have a lot of mastery on ryze so make of this what you will. Sapphire refillable used to be the go-to start, but now is taken less often simply because tear was buffed and now gives comparable mana. Often you will have a tear fully stacked long before you want to upgrade it, so sapphire refill is viable in that respect. It just comes down to the risk of not getting tear for too long. I think refill is really strong so its a nice bonus but without tp I find that start too risky, since if you get stuck on non-upgraded tear item it feels horrible. Hope this helps!
Actually back at my parents place which is basically content prison. I'll escape soon though back to an apartment. Sapphire refillable is viable but imo it sorta just doesn't fit. If you need to get catalyst quicker it's because your matchup is tough and you probably want corrupting start instead. Otherwise, just getting the tear stacked so you have more mana after first base is better IMO especially for roaming after 6
Hey Shok would it be possible for you to release a Qiyana mid lane guide in this format? I like your guides a lot and would love to see your breakdown of her champion identity/power spikes/combos/optimal gameplay. Thanks.
For us low elo shitters (Gold) I took ryze into some irellia OTPs with unsealed spellbook and had zero issues getting out of her R So I think for those of us who are gold and below unsealed spellbook is the move always because the combat sums came in clutch so often whereas if I had phase rush and no combat sums I feel I wouldn't have been able to turn fights the way I wanted to
I've been playing a lot of ryze trying to learn. I've been doing well on an individual level but my win rate is abysmal at like 33%. To put it into perspective, my wr on ww is 62%. I just feel really weak till 2 items or level 16. Even then I feel like I need frontline or short range enemies. Idk im going to try more but im losing hope, especially if people keep saying he'll be reworked I wouldnt want to waste time learning it further. P.S good guide though! some helpful stuff.
It's definitely a hard champ to play, WW would be infinitely simpler to play so that definitely makes sense. A lot of Ryze is about snowballing the early game so if you don't feel strong until 2 items/level 16 you probably aren't making use of his roaming/waveclear potential
Hi, I absolutely love Ryze, and I consider myself a Ryze one trick, even thought I am not any good, I just love the blue boy. My question is that why you didn't use some of the items that were my favorite. I understand you are way better than me, I am just curious what's the reason to not choice these items. Just so I am not disagreeing you with anything, the Rod of ages, death cap, boots, tear item are all the same for everyone. But: for the last two slots. #1: Cosmic Drive, my personal favorite item for mages and Ryze, I build this every single game, and I feel the AP, CDR, movement speed and health are all good for Ryze. #2: Horizon Foucs, give one of the highest pure AP, some health and CDR, and Ryze is always for sure to use its Hypershot ability. #3: Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Morellonomicon, for its own benefits.
Cosmic drive is really good, but I think by 5th and 6th item you kinda need tankiness in order to survive with such short range. That's why I think something like Zhonya or a tank item is better at that point. Horizon same thing as cosmic, don't think you really need more damage at this point. Would prefer Zhonya/Banshee/Tank item. Rylai is situationally good yeah, could've been added to the list for sure. Morello again, situational vs healing comps.
@@ShokLeague Thank you very much for your explanation! To be honest I never really consider buying items based on different stages in the game, this tip could be just what I need to push a little bit higher this year. (Shame they already planning on nerf ryze next patch……) And I have one last question if you wouldn't mind, do you feel like the startable tear with 360 max stack some how seems worse than the old version? I use to build it on the first recall and normally, I will get the full stack right at third item like no time was wasted. With the new tear I always feel like the completion for max stack is stuck between second and third item. if I finish tear item as second, the tear is not fully stack yet, which will cost another 1-3 mins to really come online, but if I build tear item as third, its already fully stack for a long time, this really bugs me, I don't play other tear stack champion so I don't know if this feeling is unique to Ryze or Kassdin or Anivia all the same?
Sorry that this is unrelated but did you purposely leave your wave control guide out of your midlane fundamental playlist? Just want to make sure it gets as much exposure as it can, it is very good. :)
really enjoy your videos! do u think ryze is good for low elo aswell im gold 4? also whats your opinion on samira mid? i havent lost a game on her yet but a lot of ppl tell me its a bad pick
It's good in low elo but it's a difficult playstyle to pull off which is the only reason why I wouldn't recommend him to lower elo players. But he is effective in low elo. Never played samira mid, kinda just seems like Zed or something would be better?
@@ShokLeague thx for the reply! ive been struggling with finding the right champ pool ever since i started playing which was when akshan came out. i have 270k mastery on kat but i dont think shes that good against a lot of teams so i stopped playing her. currently trying out viego mid and finding success but im not sure if ill stick to him. i played every champ until i felt like i know the champ. do you have a recommendation for a champ pool for a gold player? (i think im mechanically way above the average of most ppl i meet in soloq) sorry for the paragraph
Hello Shok. I would love an Anivia guide if you ever find the time. The material out there on her is quite slim and she is not the easiest champion to pick up. Merry christmas!
@@ShokLeague fair enough, your videos are great for laning though. Keep up the work man i watched the mechanics video and learned so much non bullshit into what mechanics a ctually is!
@31:38 u mention normally we would use qwq eq but later on you mention that combo as not that useful and rather use qeq wq. well the first one is more dmg since u get another eq right after no?
First one is more dmg but you don't apply the slow until later so it's harder to hit the full combo, and you have to wait around for another eq after. Imo it's not that practical most of the time
I dont understand how he can say that ryze has easy earlygame prio and no mana issues, that's the complete opposite of how i would describe it. Just the caster minions take like 3 EQs in the earlygame, that would be 240 mana just for the backline as you cant really land the Flux on the whole wave without a canon
I think, it's better to start with saphire + refillable pots instead of corrupting pot, because you have more max mana = more early dmg and you still have sustain from refillables
I don't really see a time where I'd start it. Imo matchups that are hard enough for me to not start tear I would really want the max sustain from corrupting pot.
I just played the best ryze game of my life. oppo mid laner quit the game and we still lost. I was 18 and 6 items early but they had a seju who ran me down and destroyed me 1v1 in sidelane. do you have any suggestions or is sej jsut so fucking broken (or tank items really)
@@ShokLeague there is no shot, that 1v1 was winable. well i didnt have mercs since i snowballed really hard and had Sorcs. Would you say, that demonic has a place in ryzes build path against tanky comps? (e.g. Sej+Swain+ Naut or sth)
It's good and maybe I should've included it, but imo it's just not very practical. It's very difficult as a short ranged champ to just stand still that long. I suppose it might have uses for when you're kiting a tank or something, but in that case you might want to vary the combo anyway since sometimes you'll need movement speed. That's why I really wanted to emphasize that it's not the best to stick to specific combos as Ryze
Hello. I'm a n00b tier person who hasn't really touched Ryze since old Ryze so here's how to play ryze. - Don't. - Feed like madd so Rito will buff - EQEQEQEQEQEQ - take towers. inhibs, base towers, most of nexus - your team surrenders because Fuck Ryze, Riot hates him you are screwed.
Shok i have a question do you think its worth it to play mid lane or switch to top cus mid lane right now is kinda strange for me its not fun i only get tilted and top lane makes me fill like i have mor impact on the game! I want to get better but im rly cunfused now
what about glacial augment for your root? im pretty new to the game but i feel like that could be good im not sure. its extra CC, but is it worth it though? since it could also provide extra CC in team fights?
