I have learned so many Ramones songs by watching your covers. These tutorials are awesome too. I think you have helped so many people like me learn guitar and punk rock. Thanks :)
woodyamsterdam Teenage Lobotomy looks mighty challenging, with lots of chord changes amid a fast tempo. I think I need to develop much more muscle strength and memory before I can tackle this one. But I hope I can get there in the not too distant future. Cheers!
That's a hard question. Of course the SG is more versatile and cost less. But if you're really deep into the Ramones and maybe sixties garage rock, then the Mosrite is worth considering. But eventually it comes to what you find to be better sounding and which guitar has the best playability. Good luck with your purchase! (and let me know what you choose)
I'm starting to learn this one now, as I've learned a lot of their more tuneful songs but need to start learning some darker, punkier ones. Thanks so much for putting out this tutorial, Martin!
One of my favorites. Great job Woody. Maybe Chinese Rocks in the future? One video for lead and another for rhythm? Gotta stop watching these or I'll end up buying an Eastwood JR Elite of my own.
Hi Woody, just wanted to get your expert opinion if you don't mind. I'm looking for a new guitar and trying to decide between a Mosrite Mark II re-issue (2013) in blue and white like Johnny's first Ventures model.( I can buy one for $1595 USD) or a Gibson SG like the one you have for around $900 USD. Which do you think would be a better value? Thank you for your time.
That's not easy to answer. Recently I learned that Johnny Ramone strummed all strings in a 6th string barre chord; at least on the first 2 albums. The great thing is that in a 6th string barre, it's up to you how many you decide to strum. Songs with a heavier sound may only require the top 3 strings... In a 5th string barre you're supposed to strum at least the A, D and G. If you also incorporate the B, the sound will ring out more. And it's downstrumming all the way indeed.
Well, actually you can't and each time I upload a video it's a gamble whether it will get me in trouble or not;) The copyright disclaimer that I put underneath my videos looks impressive, but has hardly any value...
