Hello Everyone! GoldenNova here! As is my new tradition, I'm making one video a month about stuff I want to talk about outside the usual YGO sphere, and since ya'll seemed to like my take on the new Marcus Damon card a couple of month's back, I think it's time I roped you all in even further! Maybe i missed something. Could you tell me what happens if I don't want to or can not spend any more memory, but still have some left? Can't i pass my turn?
@GoldenNovaYugioh
@GoldenNovaYugioh Год назад
Excellent Question! In a situation where you you can't or don't want to spend any more memory and want to move to the next player's turn, you'll announce that you're passing, which you can do during the main phase while you're not resolving any other effects. This will set the memory to 3 on your opponent's side, and then end of turn procedures will resolve as normal.
@Sieg83
@Sieg83 9 месяцев назад
im confused on the evolving. use agumon for example. the bottom circle, digivolution cost, was red with lvl 2 and 0 (next to a gumon's name it shows he's lvl 3). so agumon can evolve into a red lvl 2 with 0 cost? your example shows agumon evolving into greymon. greymon shows lvl 4 next to his name with a red bottom circle (digivolution cost) that has lvl 3 and 2. so does greymon evolve into a lvl 3 with 2 cost? that's where I'm lost. if someone could help I'd appreciate it greatly EDIT: the digivolution cost on the card is what it costs to digivolve into it, not into another

@@GoldenNovaYugioh Hi! New player commenting on an older video, I know, sorry about that... but, can you only pass on a turn you don't declare an attack/don't use any effects? Wouldn't passing after using effects and attacking just basically be the same as my ending my turn normally? Thanks!
@JohnnyLeyenda
@JohnnyLeyenda 6 дней назад
@@dessabull1398Your turn only ends when you cannot use more memory or decide to voluntarily pass. You can resolve as many effects as you can or want in your Main Phase. You can start by attacking with a Digimon, then evolve, then play a card, or vice versa or any order you prefer. You don’t have a Battle Phase like in Yugi, attacking is part of the Main Phase, does that make sense? There are some exceptions granted by card effects to this but that is a very specific case not worth mentioning here.

Wait, the graveyard is called "Trash"? This is what I love about digimon, you don't kill them, you control-click and send them to the trash.
@yuristeelwingvt
@yuristeelwingvt Год назад
So, it's a small thing and maybe it was mentioned and I missed it, but Digimon only has a "Main Phase". All playing, digivolving, and battling happens in the main phase, and in any order you want. If you wanna attack in case you're worried about losing your digimon, you can attack first, then build up more defensively afterwards

Option cards actually do not have a play cost, they just have a cost (technically options are not "played" they are "used"). It's very stupid but the distinction is important for cards like solarmon which prevent your opponent from reducing play costs specifically and not costs, so you can still reduce the cost of a card like crimson blaze for example. It's kind of like the distinction between destroy and send to grave I guess

Dude you need to make more little videos on this. This seems super fun and even though I personally don't consider Yu-Gi-Oh very complicated if you actually take the time to learn it in steps like I did, this seemed relatively straight forward, especially by YGO standards. I would love to see you try to get some other yugitubers and we can all have a tournament almost like Ludwig did.

Something I also really like about DCG when compared to Yugioh is its pricing and the alternate art system. Unlike Yugioh, which largely forgoes alternate arts, only releasing them on very rare ocassions, DCG has alt arts every single set (plus a lot more on secondary sets, promos or other products), which means big money cards are 99% of the time AAs and Secret Rares and budget players can usually afford strong meta decks because the normal arts end up very cheap. I was flabbergasted when I got into the game and was able to build FOUR high-level decks for the same money I'd had spend in a single meta YGO deck. Also, many arts (and specially alt arts) are beyond gorgeous. It made me realize just how outdated and deprecated Yugioh card layouts/frames are.

A note because the rules have been changed a bit. At the start of a duel you now draw 5 cards, and if you dislike the starting hand you can mulligan once. If you don't mulligan, you then add the 5 security cards. If you do Mulligan, reshuffle your deck with your opponent cutting it, and you draw 5 cards first, then add your security cards and must keep the hand you get. Also a rule about options. In order for an option card to be played you must have a digimon or tamer of the same color on the board. If an option has two colors, you must have both colors on the board in some way.

Honestly, the more I learn about other card games, and the more I learn about the YGO meta through Master Duel and things like Progression Polls, the more I begin to realize how fundamentally flawed YGO as a game actually is. Don't get me wrong, there are parts of YGO I will defend to my dying day- it has some of the best card art, and possibly the _absolute_ best card inspirations and theming, of any card game I know- and I freely admit that some of my absolute favorite moments in my entire gaming career have happened in Master Duel. But from a game design standpoint, YGO is an absolute nightmare. The lack of any cap on Special Summons and effect activations per turn; the almost-complete absence of any sort of action-limiting resource system like Memory, MTG's Mana, or Pokemon's Energy (unless you count Xyz Material, which only applies to a small percentage of cards and even then usually lets them use the ability right away); the sheer number of cards that exist purely to cancel what your opponent is doing, preventing them from playing at all... It all adds up to a perfect storm of problems that explains why the modern metagame is the complete trainwreck that it is. Anyway, sorry for rambling! Awesome video as usual; I'll definitely have to look more into this game in the future!
@dblgold3869
@dblgold3869 11 месяцев назад
Flawed is a weird word to use imo. Its different, it is a genuinely VERY unique card game. The lack of limitations is a fun thing about YGO, but can in fact cause balance issues( and does) often. But literally every cardgame has its own faults that cause this, so it doesn't make it special by any means. Learning new card games can easily make you feel this way though, partially because of recency bias, but also becaue you haven't invested as much time to get frustrated in them yet.
@mrshikad

But that is the best part of the game!!! The fact that ygo doesn’t have any resource limiters is so unique and cool!!

After watching this video, I gotta say, imo Digimon TCG is like the midway point between Yu-Gi-Oh and Vanguard in terms of complexity. I've played a variety of card games (with Yu-Gi-Oh being the only physical one, and that was a long while ago) and among those card games, the current ones that I'm very familiar with is Yu-Gi-Oh and Vanguard (especially after Dear Days got released). Like, I could understand Vanguard terms/plays and mechanics in 1 day while it took me about a week to relearn things since I stopped at GX era before. Meanwhile, with the help from your video, I could probably learn Digimon TCG in a few days. Still need to see first how deck building/playstyle is done for Digimon, as for vanguard each deck is pretty easy to learn in about a day or so as you played it while Yu-Gi-Oh have a lot of wide variety of decks and playstyle that you even need some time to recondition yourself each time you change decks. Imagine playing HERO one duel and then changing to Sky Striker in the next one, totally different strats to consider.

One thing I feel is important to mention is that almost all non-official playmats you can find have a designated "Tamer Zone" next to the Breeding Area. I find it important to mention that this isn't a real thing, I've had people tell me "You can't put your tamer there, it has to go to the tamer zone, duh". No it doesn't, there's no tamer zone. That's just where most people usually put the tamers, but that's not a game rule.

Yo! So I was just checking out TSX speed duel tournament and the speed counter mechanic is actually super interesting and it made me think of this memory thing. So, like, what if Yugioh had something like that? Let's call it shadows and it can look opposite to memory. So you pull shadows towards yourself by activating monster (cost 1?) and spell (cost 2?) effects. maybe even give it a tiny "neutral" middle ground so turn one player can cook a tiny bit more than T set, pass. And I think set and flipping any card is enough to bypass "drawing shadows" cost; making traps and some flip monsters more interesting, but also reigning in the OP quick-play spell. In my opinion, there should have been quick-play traps instead; but this is not the discussion today!

Requirements that are in line with specifics from other properties are usually in addition to that (for example, there are some Guilmons that cost 1 to digivolve on top of a Lv 2 Red Digi-egg, has an alternate 0 Cost digivolve on top of any Gigimon)

There's currently no dedicated simulators, but I believe Tabletop Simulator has a mode for it.

Are there any online sims for the Digimon TCG? I don't really have people to play cards with IRL... :(

Closest thing I believer ATM is using Tabletop Simulator, but I'm not sure how good it's online functionality for PvP is.

7:03 why do i feel like ive played a digimon game that did just that? 10:53 wait wait wait... so the Security is kind of like the defense mechanic from Duel Masters essentially, except the cards taken out of it go to the grave pile? I really liked that mechanic. neat. 12:19 OOHOO, so in theory this game generates a tug of war over it's resource. sure, dip below 0... if you dare. 14:45 was waiting for that information. this game seems to play like a magic/duel masters hybrid, but with not nearly as many cards dedicated to energy generation in the same way and it's own unique details. im still trying to understand the push-pull potential of the energy mechanic, but i like this. 19:30 OOH, so while your opponent loses life, you may have had one of your on field digimon taken out by an enemies shield in revenge for poking life with a card to low... 20:38... I have to ask this. are there any milling builds?
@GoldenNovaYugioh
@GoldenNovaYugioh Год назад
To answer the last one, there's a very strong Impmon/Beelzemon Self-Mill deck, and Purple has a lot of Looting effects besides, but to my knoweldge. Some of the Purple/Red Guilmon cards also mill both players, but to my knowledge, there's no deck where milling out your opponent is the primary win condition, but I'd encourage looking into it just in case!

@@GoldenNovaYugioh thanks for letting me know this either way. just figured id ask because Mill is my favorite win-con and it would be interesting to see if such a deck would be viable in such a game.

I hate the inherited effects. I don’t want to have to read 5 different cards underneath the digimon on top of its own effects to understand it.

question just because i am not sure if i got this say its my first turn and i hatch a digiegg can i digivol it without paying memory? P.D: how does the game decide who goes first?
@casualgamingauraous2345
@casualgamingauraous2345 Год назад
It’s a bit late but the Memory Cost on the Cards left dictates whether or not it costs memory to digivolve or do a flat play, Digivolving is cheaper to do than simply playing the monster immediately from your hand, usually Digiegg level is Level 2 then it Digivolves into any Level 3 Digimon and typically as Level 3 is a Rookie level it costs nothing to Digivolve from the Egg but also is cheap to play without evolving (Say it costs 2 memory if you don’t choose to Digivolve but if you do, it’s free), the game decides who goes first Via Coinflip but I could see people using Dice Rolls if they want to. Overall IMO The DCG is a very simple and straightforward yet fun game, also note the Cards Color typically tells you how the deck plays, Red is very offensive, Blue focuses on Card Effects, Yellow is a very defensive type that can refresh the Security area, Purple/Violet focuses on the Trash Pile and manipulating that, Black is a Very Defensive type and then there’s Typeless which don’t have a specialization but also due to that if you have a typeless card it more than likely will be in a mixed deck.
