@@lilyminer9164 Dude what I'm introverted as hell and I usually play introverted characters and all you need to keep in mind is it's only awkward if you let it and use the I'm an introvert excuse, you can roleplay an introverted character well if you put some thought into it and y'know actually make friends within the party, I think what your referring to is being socially awkward
The tomato explanations for the spell schools remind of explanation for the 6 stat points I saw online also using tomatoes. Strength is your ability to crush a tomato. Dexterity allows you to dodge a tomato thrown at you. Constitution allows you to stomach a rotten tomato. Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in your fruit salad. Charisma is being able to sell a tomato-based salad.
Oh, look at 'im. 'E thinks 'e's all high an' mighty with "dexterity" and dodgin' flyin' tomatoes. Well let's see ya dodge a crazed terrorist comin' at ya with a bunch of loganberries then! Let's see 'ow your "dexterity" works then, aye!
Counterspell. You can literally use counterspell for free, ask me that's pretty stronk. If the enemy is casting anything 3rd level or lower they just don't get to cast.
@@BillytheCorgi I wouldnt say for free, you just get two extra 3rd level spell slots and two extra spells prepared. Still pretty good, just not infinite counterspell.
@@araccoonstolemyradiator I’m pretty sure it means that you can select tothird level spells to cast infinitely. And by infinitely I mean as many times as one Would want
Another Tomato analogy. If you see this, you wont need to see another how to play video again. - Barbarrian: get mad at the tomato - Bard: Serronade the tomato - Cleric: worship the tomato - Druid: plant and grow the tomato - Wizard: study the tomato - Sorcerer: be born with a very fancy tomato - Warlock: make a deal with a tomato - Paladin: pledge to protect the tomato - Fighter: sword the tomato - Monk: punch the tomato - Ranger: hunt and track down the tomato - Rouge: steal the tomato - Artificer: make the tomato magic - Mystic: think at the tomato really hard
4:45 Actually the Warlock recovers their spell slots on a short rest starting level 1, which is the big selling point of that class for me. The 20th level ability for Warlocks is they can spend 1 minute instead of an hour to regain their spell slot once per long rest.
Indefinitely I Concur Good Chap! For My FIRST. EVER. Class!!! Chose Wizard! And I Couldn't Agree More! Infact My Opinion Of This Statement Is Exponentially Growing Gents And Ladies! One Could Argue I'm An Bigot For Choosing It As My...First...Time~ But I Studied Prior To The Session 1 To Ensure My Peak Performance! I Performed Much Better Than My Fellow Fledgling Compatriots 😄 Then Again I Am An Elegant Elf😙 Of Course I'm Superior.
I was in a game with mutiple wizards, and we copied each other's spells. Then we coordinated to take spells from the other's schools of magic, rather than our own when we leveled up, so we could copy them for 1/2 off.
So when’s the extended version coming? You know, the one where the guide is prefaced with about 3 hours of Jacob reading every spell in the player’s handbook because he thought it was a good idea.
"Good news, everyone! We're about to be mindf*cked into eternal slavery by an Aboleth!" ^..I kinda wanna play a Wizard that is like Professor Farnsworth..
I've seen Bender's Game. It's been a while though. Still, Prof. Farnsworth is pretty fun. Probably should save that for a One-shot though, because I can see that shtick getting real old, real fast. ...Like the Professor! Okay, now I need to make my Rock Gnome (War) Wizard idea into something Farnsworthian..
well about that... I kinda messed up once as a dm.... and the level 3 wizard actually got to look through the lair of a lich... well you can imagine how that went...
Warlocks are not well balanced at very high levels because they only get 1 spell of 6, 7, 8, and 9th levels. This is fine for handling slots (at least before lvl 19 where they fall a little behind) but the issue is versatility as they have to commit to just 1 spell from their list for the higher levels. At least they have Eldritch invocations.... Honestly I love warlocks up to like level 15 or 16, but they lag just a little after that. Way easier to manage than a wizard though.
Sooo Jacob's actually wrong here. Warlocks always recover all of their spell slots on a short rest. Forreal, go look it up in your PHB right now. Pg. 107 under the "Spell Slots" section for warlocks.
@@RobbiePDX I think that was the point of the bit where they talked about the Wizards arcane recovery. Wizards get a few spells back in short rests and I think the warlock going "What the hell!?" was a reference to the fact that they do too and past level 2 Wizards can recover more than the Warlock.
Even more importantly, the Warlock's slots are all on the same (high) slot level, but a Wizard recovering 10 slots would have to recover 10 1st-level slots (except they only have 4, so realistically it maxes at 7, 4 1st level and 3 2nd level). In comparison at say 6th level (even level to be nice to the wizard) a warlock could recover 2 3rd level spells but a wizard could only recover 1. That is on top of being repeatable several times a day. That being said, a wizard has way more slots in general so the need for slot recovery is lower.
From personal experience, I usually just explain that we're filming a video for RU-vid. Then they either say "oh, cool, ok" and leave, or they call the police reporting "terrorists with hatchets and AK-47s running towards the park". True story.
If it's anything like when I LARP, most people just ignore the nerds in costumes hitting each other with foam swords, and if someone does ask, we just explain the game. Most people are pretty chill about it. It helps that we have a permit to be in that park
I think a good level 20 trait would be either the ability to inherently concentrate on 2 spells at once (any item that gives you this would instead allow 3 spells) or maybe for the spells you gain at level 20 you can pick spells from any class as long as they're 6th level or below. Any higher would still need to be a wizard spell
Spell Mastery is the real capstone ability because you should be multiclassing into Fighter to get Action Surge and cast TWO FULL SPELLS in one turn (once per short rest).
The level 20 ability is really good for necromancers. You can maintain all your undead. And keep adding more. Because you can cast animate dead. For free.
My DM has a rule where you can only cast or copy scrolls if you speak the language they’re written in. It sounds like it would suck, but we’re a really role play heavy group, so seeking out people to translate scrolls was a great experience.
dude this is awesome I was actually lokking for ma tutorial on how to play a wizard 2 hours ago and couldn't find anything and this is xp to lvl3 so it just makes it that much better thx for the vid!
This is really well made and I like that you and your friends were able to go to a public park and be so full of confidence while acting. Good for you :)
I like to think that the level 20 ability should be more, like a mastery for a third level spell. Then I remember infinite fireball. Or infinite counterspell. Maybe it would work a little better if the spell choice was restricted to your school of choice, but then there's nothing for the war mage from XGtE. Despite that issue, I have reservations about writing individual capstone abilities for each subclass. A better idea might be along the lines of the bard's magical secrets ability, but limited to a spell of 5th level or lower. It could be as though the wizard figured out a way to replicate a divine spell using arcane means, so they choose any spell of 5th level or lower from the cleric, druid, paladin, and ranger spell lists and either gain the ability to cast it x-times per day, or they simply add it to their spellbook. A worse idea but much simpler than the one above would be to give them another spell slot 5th or 6th level, I suppose, or to buff the arcane recovery so it can recover slots of higher level to simulate the same effect.
Damian, the OP said that they thought the ability should be like the level 18 ability but for a level 3 spell slot, then realising the infinite fireball problem
Cory Gumminger do we want to give wizards healing? Idk how it effects balance. The better arcane recovery and extra slots seem like nice modifications.
I don't think it would affect balance all that much given that magic is already unbalanced in later levels and that is the maximum level attainable within RAW. I also can't really see a wizard using a choice like that to pick up cure wounds/mass cure wounds unless the party doesn't have anyone else that can use healing magic, in which case why not let them have that? Beyond that, if the group in question uses unearthed arcana, I believe there is a wizard tradition akin to the divine soul sorcerer and the celestial warlock that would grant them access to cleric spells anyway unless I am mistaken. I'm not extremely familiar with divine spells, but I'd gamble that the most unbalancing thing a wizard could probably lift is raise dead. Again, though, if the party already has a cleric or other member who can cast that, I can't see a wizard choosing that over say antilife shell, awaken, divination, elemental weapon, spirit guardians, heat metal, etc I think it kind of makes thematic sense, since wizards are assumed to have been figuring out two spells on their own each time they level up and reaching level 20 as a wizard makes you one of the most powerful mages (if not the most powerful mage) in the world. It stands to reason that someone with such a vast knowledge of magic could replicate the effects of divine magic through arcane means. That is exactly what WISH does anyway, so it would simply allow them to do it more than once per day for a single spell of their choosing (since every level 17+ wizard worth his wand should know wish).
I actually stayed and watched the patreon shoutouts for the first time in my life because you sang them epically, and also because you have great hair. @XP to Level 3
Str: throw tomaro Dex: dodge tomato Con: eat bad tomato Int: know tomato is fruit Wis: know tomato not in fruit salad Cha: sell tomato to tomato farmer
I think a good substitute for the 20th level ability would be choosing one spell you know and turning it into a cantrip, removing the need for a spell slot.
What people don't know about the warlock, you actually get all your spell slots back when you rest. The level 20 feature just lets you get them back faster.
This is really really great. Pure.Awesome. May you please do monk or druid sometime in the future. I'm interested in playing those classes but I'm not sure what they're all about.
