I show you how to polish those cloudy and damaged port light lens to make them clear again. With a little bit of effort you can see through your port lights again. make your boat look newer and nicer by polishing and cleaning the plastic.

Thank you so much for this helpful video! I like seas on the quarter, though...fair winds are good!😊

Hi Wayne.....I did this a couple of years ago on venturi windshield panels on a trailer, with similar great results.....problem is that 2years out, they are clouding over again and in need of a redo.....lesson is that once you break through the factory finish, it's never new again, and needs a new way smoother finish than polish.......to last a truly long time, i think you need a coating.... McGuiers has come out with a plastic x product I think I'll try....thx for the videos.....

Great job, but if you want the glossy finish to last longer, try using a UV-resistant clear spray paint on the lenses after the final polish to keep the plastic from being destroyed by the sunlight again.

+ted clubber lang Good point, on my ports I used a special window tint designed for plastic. I may do a video of that as well not sure yet. There are some sealers you can get that are just for this type of thing. Thanks for the comment and keep watching.

Very nice and CLEAR 🙂video. Just came here not because I have a boat with foggy/cloudy plastic windows however have some boomboxes (with plastic windows) with the same issue. Love to see what others do/share to fix the problem. What is the reason why this is happening, what is the cause, UV light? I have used silver polish (Brasso) with a soft cloth/pad and seems to do the job very well. It takes some time buth worth the effort. For me, in my case, it gets interesting when the surface get hot by friction. The hotter it gets, the better the result. The result is clear plastic, scratch removing and scratch free and very shiny. I think the way I describe is the first thing to try, mostly people don't need all the special plastic 3M stuff you need. The only thing you need is some patience to rubb (and peel down) the surface with some brasso, heat it up to melt the surface. With my method there is no risc to make it worse and the need to correct the scratches. After the process, I have used silicon spray.

+Snake Plisken Thanks for the comment and yeah I really should have put that in there, live and learn. But they did come out quite nice and look almost new. Really improves the look of the cabin as well. Next time I will be sure to include the final product in the video.

What would you recommend to seal tempered glass to the wood wondow frame? Hoping to use something other than messy silicone. I like your videos! Thanks for any advice!
@Boatingzen
@Boatingzen 6 лет назад
Silicone is not good with wood. I think I would lean to poly sulfide for that application.

Are your lenses made of polycarbonate? The headlights the 3M kit is made to clean are usually polycarbonate, just wondering if this process would work also on my acrylic windows. thanks for sharing

It would be much faster to order new Plexiglas. I paid $55 for 8 laser cut portlights (5" x 20" x 1/4" thick).
@Boatingzen
@Boatingzen 8 лет назад
+xavytex Glad you were able to do that at such a good price. My port lights have the hinges and frames molded in as can be seen in the video. To replace would be $100 each and with 10 of them that is well worth a days effort to get them looking nice again. Thanks for the comment.
@xavytex
@xavytex 8 лет назад
+Wayne Canning - Yes you are right. I didn't notice your port lights are like this. That's a pain... Mine are simplier models: the plexiglas is "siliconed" onto the frames. Thanks for your video anyway, I will use your technique for my Plastimo compass. It's a small area, lucky me ;)

No one ever asked me to sign in before subscribing until your video that didn’t show up in my watch history… First time I watched a video that didn’t show up in my history…. Everything is working normal now… I think someone is hacking into my internet stuff… I pushed the like and got this cut off pop up that said if I like the video to sign in. Then when I pushed the subscribe I got a similar instruction and it blocked me from subscribing… I thought this came from you… But now I don’t think so.

Very hot water and vinegar. Don't sand this is STUPID especially on lexan. If you want it to look new buy new. It's just the way it is sorry. Only someone that's been doing this for years as a living is going to be able to do a fair job otherwise your not going to like the outcome. It all sounds good but so does everything else that can save money. Sometimes it's just the way it is.

I have had good luck polishing as in the video and coating with tint film gotten years of clear lens like that
