This mix is fine for bigger pots as well? I am a bit scared of potential root rot. Maybe I should replace the pine bark with pumice? I don’t have regular potting mix. Can I just mix peat and compost 1:1 and use that instead of potting mix?
I just bought a palm about 60 cm long I want it to grow on in a fairy big pot can I just plant it straight into or is there a reason to out it into a small pot and change it once it grows bigger ?
Good question. The proper pot size allows water & nutrients to saturate the roots. Too big of a pot and it flows right through and settles below the root zone.
I have a question. How many years will it take for a windmill palm seedling to get to a 3 gallon pot size ? I try to look it up on the internet but it never has the answer.
A couple of years in all likelihood. They grow about a foot per year. Two growth spurts in the Summer and Fall. I'm probably good for the next year and a half to two years in the one gallons.
I potted my seedlings into one gallon pots in October/November after they germinated in Jan. They went from a community tray to red solo cups around March. Most of the ones I put into one gallon pots were already circling the bottoms of the solo cups, so maybe 3 years. They are worth about $100 per trunk foot once they get some height after that time though 😉🤙👍🌴
