How to Pot Your Avocado Seedling 

I have started the seeds in water and soil on a warming mat and found faster results if they are on a solo cup with soil. Before putting the seed in the soil I peel the fine skin around the seed than bury the seed in soil. And keep watering to keep the soils moist. Thanks for helping people. 👍🏼

I haven't managed to get past seedling stage, i live in the wrong climate and have no idea what im doing, but you make me convinced I'm the greatest future avocado grower that will ever exist 😂😂😂💖

I became an avocado parent by accident. never though it would start growing... but when I discovered it, it was a long stem of 12 inches already.. its like 30 inches now with small leaves along the stem. It's really slim and tall and it keeps growing leaves from top, but they are also small. Should i just rudely cut it from somewhere? Every video shows avocados with large leaves and short stems...:( Mine is a giant and I am not sure how or where to cut...

hi, i have a question :) i've been growing my avocado plant from seed in a vase of water for about 30 weeks. I pruned the stem and a new sprout came up. the new sprout is now 30 inches in length with a few leaves (still in the water vase). do I HAVE to transplant it to soil or will it be able to continue growing if I just leave it in water and prune the top leaves every now and then? thank you!

So i tried the water method, and the wrap in a damp paper towel and stick in a bag in a sunny area method. All my water/toothpick babies failed, but my bag baby has sprouted, do I need to put him in water now until he grows roots? Or do I go ahead and stick him in some soil? Never got this far before.

Hi need some advice! I planted a seedling just like you advised and transferred the sprouting seed into a pot with compost. The pot did not have holes on the bottom for the water to drain, though. I believe I drowned it and it died😢. But I didn’t give up. Kept on watering it and it resprouted! Unfortunately squirrels got to it and it died. I didn’t give up. Continued watering it and it resprouted. It has grown about 10 inches and has some leaves at the tip but it has plateaued. I recently made some holes at the bottom of the pot so the water can drain. What can I do to move it forward? Since the water was unable to grow perhaps fungus has set in? Transfer it to a new, clean pot?

I made guacamole for NYE 2020 and stuck two avocado seeds in a couple cups of water, set them in my kitchen window and basically just left them. Months later one turned black and rotted. The other one started growing roots! It's been in the water for a little over a year. It's about 10 inches tall. There's only a few leaves...one of the leaves is like 7 inches long. Tiny tree, giant leaf! Anyway, I'm finally going to pot this tree. Can I go ahead and put it in a big pot (about 3 sizes larger than the one in the video) or do these prefer to be repotted as they grow?

I didn't think that you could get avocados from a seed. I thought that you needed to graft 2 avocados together.

I laugh every time I see the avocado seed with toothpicks. Just about everybody on RU-vid teaches that method as it it's the best thing you can do. Truth of the matter is, the very first roots that come out of an avocado seed are very important. They want soil, and they want to shape themselves according to the soil around them. If a person grows them in water then they will likely hurt the roots when they plant them in dirt. Not only that, but there will be a lot of air in between the roots when they try to put them in a pot, and that's very bad. Nutrition is important at that age and the roots need to have soil all around them. Most of the time it's not a good idea to try to "help" nature. It knows what it's doing. Avocados with toothpicks hanging over water amuse kids and turn into conversation pieces.
