This video will show you how to pour a concrete slab for a garage.
This slab is 30' x 30' x 6" with wire mesh reinforcement and a double row of rebar around the edges.
We screed off the top of the forms and use a laser level to make a wet pad in the middle of the slab for screeding.
This garage slab has about two feet of gravel under it for a base. The frost line here in Maine is 48" but with good gravel and sloping the landscaping away from the slab, it won't heave.
To learn how to form, pour and finish a concrete slab, see my training course below.

I have a 30x30 garage I built maybe 30 years ago. I went with a 4 foot knee high foundation then poured the slab a few weeks later. Love it, great size garage. The only thing I would do different would be to frame the front for three garage doors, I put two been kicking myself in the ass ever since.

Just bought a piece of property last fall that had a driveway, septic and a 30x30 foundation. Worst size ever. Too big to be 'tiny' and too small to be functional. 2 more feet would have been nice, but we'll make it work out for someone. Great work as always - Cheers!

Thanks for the Vid! the width at 13 secs doesn't look like 30 ft. wide. Of course, only guessing. It just "looks" narrow. Looking at that 2 x 4 at the front edge. Even if it was a 12 ft., that would put it at 24 or 25 feet across.

Right up front please forgive my lack of proper terminology. I'm north of you up in Smyrna Mills. I'm planning to build a 24X28 garage using a mono pour, or perhaps just a slab on grade. In this video it looks like a mono pour. Do you have any videos on how the ground was prepared or perhaps covered in your course? With the frost line being what it is here in Maine pouring a footer and stem wall down to around six feet is a tad expensive. Can that be avoided and just pour on grade with say a two foot by two foot trench around the perimeter filled with gravel and a drainage system? As a side note when I was 18 years old, a long time ago, I showed up for my first day on the job pouring the foundation for a large apartment complex in cutoff jeans and no shirt. You only do that once.

I had a parking pad poured by a local crew on Friday. If I wasn’t in there, moving mud behind the screeder and had my own bull float and poles, the thing would have turned out to be a mess. You sir, make it look easy through your efficiency and skill. He brought unskilled guys who were doing nothing to make it easy on themselves. Watching the screeder killing himself trying to move 6” of mud cuz the guys behind him didn’t know what to do was hard.

I'm currently working on this size of pad for a client. He's putting 2 10' doors on the back wall, 1 12' door on the left side, and 1 12' door on the front side. He's also wants to make half of the "garage" into a house... a bed, bath, kitchen and living room... I have no idea how he plans on doing that but hey, it's what the client wants 🤨🤷🏾‍♂️

@Clemsontiger21487 2 года назад
I think you gotta give them what they want mostly; however, I’d let them know your concern. I’d be a mad customer if I realized at the end something isn’t going to work knowing the contractor probably knew, not that it’s your concern. Seems like a silly plan. But that’s a tight rope to walk haha. Good luck

Howdy , I'm from Australia and we chair our mesh or ( at worst lift our mesh ) . Just got to ask , are you allowed to pour with mesh on the ground ?? 🤔🤔🤔
@johnwhite2576
@johnwhite2576 9 месяцев назад
There is no law against it, but you are correct. You NEED chairs or dobies to ensure wire remains r proper height inside concrete and mesh is covered by adequate concrete thsi is essential on a 4-5 inch pour where you have little margin for error.
@Raggy73

In the UK inspectors visit construction sites where concrete is being delivered They take a sample of the mix, do a test to see if it is up to standard. Do you have anything like that in the USA?
@cboutdoorfun9955
@cboutdoorfun9955 2 года назад
I have never heard of this being done for residential at least in my area. DOT projects and some comercial and industrial jobs will do this or get core samples after the fact

This is why EU residences are built much better; REGULATION and high specs structurally and thermal barriers. Of course the price per square foot would not be acceptable to American consumer, but as the us residential builder quality declines, prices rise and tendency to cut corners expands, we may reach a tipping point. If you are gonna pay seven figures to build a house people are gonna expect houses to be built right.this will happen with teh next recession when the industry is no,longer so flush and complacent.

How much cement for that
@stevehopper6068
@stevehopper6068 2 месяца назад
You see the guy pulling up the rebar but then everyone walks over the rebar which pushes it right back against the ground. You need to use dobies to keep the rebar off the ground, inside the cement.

I’m in the UK and had a cowboy pour my slab a couple of weeks back. My expectation was what this looks like. The reality is a massive disappointment. To the point I wish I could afford to rip it up and start again. I’m 100% confident I could do a better job myself. Great job as always. 👍🏽

What is the point of pulling the mesh wires up when the next person is step it down afterwards. I think it is a terrible work. The mesh wires are at the bottom of the concrete slab and not in the middle of the slab.
