This video will show you how to pour a colored concrete floor and also how I add color to the concrete mix.
Adding integral color to concrete is really pretty easy. All I do is order my color from Marshalltown.com. I use the discount code EAC to get my 10% off, and they ship it to my house.
Once I have the color (it comes in bags), I bring it to the concrete ready mix company and put the color right into the concrete truck.
When the concrete dispatcher loads the truck, the concrete mixes with the powdered color and colors the concrete as it mixes inside the mixing drum.
When the concrete truck shows up on the jobsite, the concrete comes out of the truck whatever color you added to the mix.
Pouring a colored concrete floor really isn't any different than pouring a regular concrete floor. Just be careful not to keep adding water to the mix once you start. The added water could slightly change the shade of color once the floor is finished.

These style foundations are really all we do here in the Cincinnati area for residential. Myself and 2 other guys knock out about 3 of these basement and garage floors each week. We also pump these floors, the extra 500$ for a pump is worth every penny when you consider the labor you would need to truck dump over an 8ft wall. Lovin the videos Mike.

Really interesting throughout, I watched the whole thing to see how you were going to finish it. I think, if I was doing a lot of these basements, I would rig up a scaffolding that hung over the side and would allow you to finish the corner where you got out more easily. But if you have long enough arms, I guess you can get it done the way you have been! In any case, it was a very good video.

You have a real good team! I am a novice at concrete. So you guys impress me! I had a 30 X 50 shop I poured the floor in it! So you guys get my respect! My floor looks great, I also had great help! One of my friends helped build the decorative concrete wall panels that go to bridge supports. You learn fast the do’s and don’ts . Keep up the great work, I enjoy your videos and advice!

If I were doing it, I'd put to small holes in the wall in that finishing corner and have an attachment to stick in for a sitting board so I could finish. Then I'd pull the board and pegs out of the holes and fill them in with concrete when finished.

Watching the last part of the video! Ever thought of a ladder with adjustable hooks that would fit over the foundation wall. It would suspend the ladder off the floor and possibly have a small platform to kneel down and finish the remaining floor! Just a thought!!

We use to have a pool ladder that hooked over the top of the wall, it got wore out. We need to make another one that hooks like that, much easier to get in and out without lifting the ladder each time.

I’ve never seen concrete colored all the way thru. I’ve always just seen it tossed across the top after screeding and then bull float it in. 🤜🤛

Yea, we use to do that 20 years ago, We only use integral color now. We use a lot of it for our stamped concrete jobs

Good stuff, could that foundation actually hold water like a swimming pool? Just a curiosity question from someone who’s from the south.
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 года назад
It could if it was waterproofed on the inside. It has snap tie holes that hold the outside panel to the inside panels when the foundation is poured. These could potentially leak.

Just found this video. Very helpful! I am interested in pouring a long driveway with a deep russet or earth tone red colored concrete. I am estimating about 50-55 yards. What am I looking at for a ballpark price per yard? I know it varies widely by region (I am in Georgia). Just trying to get an idea of where to start, both budgeting and who to contact. Thanks so much for your input.

Hey Mike! I have a question, I was always told that when I’m done stamping a concrete patio, that I need to wait 2/3 weeks before sealing it, otherwise water and alkaline leaving the concrete can get trapped and cause the seal to flake or bubble off. But I always see your videos where you stain/seal it just a day or two later, was I told wrong? I would say you are more experienced than the ppl who told me that, so I would like your opinion and reason.

I poured a concrete driveway 40 yards of concrete. The color suplier only gave me 25 bags of 8 pound color bags. Does that ratio sound right for the 40 yards? 3,000 psi 5 sack concrete. Thanks in advance

You didn't say the brand of color, that makes a difference. We use Butterfield colors brand and put 1 bag per yard.

Hey Mike just watched your video and I am looking to do pigment color in a Jacuzzi 12 x 10 pad outdoors in Southern Alabama. We get a lot of rain here and humidity do you think I need to seal a 12 x 10 pad with a reddish color? Or since it’s outdoors it’s OK to leave it. Thx john

Hey Mike! We will be having our slab poured next week for our new house. We are using a charcoal gray color in the mix. How long do you suggest that we wait to cover it with a product called Ram Board that protects the floor during construction?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 3 года назад
As long as possible, at least a couple weeks to let most of the moisture evaporate out of the slab. If not you'll get some funny looking condensation marks on the floor. Also, after the Ram board is down you can't set things on the Ram board and just leave them there. Like boards, plywood, buckets, tarps, anything that will trap moisture under it. The Ram board is designed to let the slab breath so condensation will build under these things and leave the slab darker under them afterwards. After about 30 days this is much less likely to happen.

Why throw in the bags ? Why not just empty the bag into the truck? Does it not effect the batch negativly?

So no knowledge here.Building a home. I thought if I colored the concrete (bags in truck mixer) I could do the garage patio driveway and front walkway. From this video I see that I'd still need to apply a sealer or polish to make this color pop. Again, no knowledge here and I'm feeling intimated to ask the builder and the concrete contractor...if I have them pour these areas...I'd get the Marshalltown or local ready mix color.....can i apply the sealer within a specified time (cleaned of course ) and just re apply per your other videos every few years?

What dose it cost in the U.S. a square yard
@bret_Lambky
@bret_Lambky 4 года назад
For the construction company I am sure they get a slightly reduced price depending on the volume they use!! For Joe homeowner I paid approximately $90 a yard that was several years ago. I used approximately 7- 9 yards. I am sure they all have breakpoints where you get a better price! I would think it is still about the same price. Hope this helps!

It's cubic yard. And concrete up here in mn is over 120 a yard. There is a small load charge if u have less than 5 yards. 400 total for one yard 6XX for 2 yards and 800 for 3 yards
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 года назад
Yea, it's about 120 a cubic yard here in Maine. Then you add the cost of the color, each color is different ranging from 40 dollars per yard to 80 dollars per yard. We use one bag of color per yard. This job the color was 80 per yard, black is the most expensive for us.

Looked like there was heating tubes in the floor, so it's likely the mesh was just to tie the tubes to.

Yes, the mesh was just to tie the radiant heat tubes to. The heating guys don't want us to pull it up. The concrete did have fibermesh in it for reinforcement.
