This video will show you when to start finishing concrete after you pour it.
If you're pouring a concrete sidewalk, patio, walkway, pool deck, or driveway, this video will teach you when to start edging, mag floating, and broom finishing the concrete.
Finishing concrete at the right time will be the difference between a really nice looking job and a not so nice looking job.
Knowing when to start is a matter of understanding how concrete reacts to a number of different factors.
Some of those factors are air temperature, how wet or dry you pour the concrete, sub-base material, if the concrete is in the sun or shade, just to name a few.
In the video I show you how to check the concrete and what to look for before you start your concrete finishing process. Starting too early or too late can have a big impact on how hard you have to work and how good or bad the final outcome is.

Mike, this is my first time watching you and I’ve got to say how beautifully you explained the processes and was well filmed too! ( I particularly liked the look of the border that the edging tool left so I would be tempted to put that back in as part of my finish if I was going for a smooth path). Beautiful work buddy, greetings from Royal Berkshire UK 🇬🇧

Yeah, very nice. The hacks that did the concrete around my inground pool here in Rochester NY were a disgrace. High spots, low spots, puddles, kids scrape their knees getting out. He broomed with a big hard bristled push broom way too soon and it is so rough you can't even kneel down on it to pull out the skimmer basket. Butchers. Oh, no edge either, it's just an ugly rough finish all the way around on the outside.....

I’ve worked on two skeleton crews doing driveways, patios, and sidewalks. My uncle is always very adamant about pulling the wire up as concrete is being poured on that given section. The other crew I was with did not seem to prioritize it. I’m always thankful when we do a tear out and wire isn’t involved. The worst was working around a pool, boy that sucked. I’ve always found enjoyment in this work. I work in the oil field as a boilermaker, but am also venturing out into other avenues within it to beef up the resume, however I do concrete during the off seasons with the turnaround circuit. One thing I will say about the concrete trade is badass finishers seem to be a dying breed unless you go Union where guys are willing to really teach you, and the rare occasion guys nowadays want to stick with it long enough to make a real career out of it. Some very fulfilling work at the end of a job though, I love seeing the finished product. Proud to have worked with guys that really know their stuff so the customer is happy. Nice video.

It's interesting to see how different techniques are used in other parts of the country. I always use an edger with a pole and I've never broomed before using a fresno or trowel. Looks like it works well for you.
@jeffnorbert1871
@jeffnorbert1871 7 месяцев назад
That's called a "walking edger". Additionally a skinny little edger like he used in the video is something I would only use on curved edges or what might be called detail work. 6 inch wide edger is the tool most who aren't playing use. Most finishers I've seen use both a mag and a "pool trowel". A finishing trowel but with rounded corners instead of square. Some work doesn't really even need to be "finished". Parking lots for example. Strike it, bullfloat, edge and joint and then brush it. All depends on what the intended use and desired appearance is. A nice patio slab takes more work.
