I'm showing you how to pour and finish a charcoal colored concrete floor.
I add the powdered concrete right to the concrete truck. The truck mixes the color into the concrete mix for about 10 minutes.
When we pour colored concrete, it's very similar to pouring regular concrete. We try not to add any water to the mix after starting. This can cause some color variations. I hand finish the concrete the same way as regular concrete. This was a smooth finish and I saw cut contraction joints.

I'll often put a 45 degree chamfer strip, top and bottom, on cantilevered slabs like this. It's a nice look. I did a little lava stamped pads in Hawaii years ago with that charcoal color and a rust color broadcast hardener. Some people thought it was real lava rock. great work!

Years ago we simply mixed the color with sand and covered the top of the poured slab with it. Just like a dryer mix, then floated it in and trowled it. Made a nice job.

Mike, I’ve used Lexan Plastic hand trowels and machine blades on colored concrete that required a trowel finish. Keeps the color consistent and prevents burnished areas/ mottled look. Check them out sometime, they feel like toys…

Looks beautiful!!! If the house is spec out for white facade, dark concrete suits it well. Also, I love smooth finish concrete looks more like a stone rather than concrete

Yes, We usually work beyond Thanksgiving. Pouring in freezing temps isn't my favorite, but I have my heated jacket to help keep me warm!

@@MikeDayConcrete I shut down at Thanksgiving or first week of December, depending on weather. I used to have a couple of ground heaters and we would go all winter pouring parking lots and commercial projects, but thats too much work year after year. Just trading dollars with more risk. Poured a big job that the temps never got above zero, and I decided that was it. Sold the heaters that spring and sold 500 blankets. Which in turn freed up 4 trailers and a ton of shop space.

This is exactly the color we wanted! But our guy told us it would be too dark and poured a medium gray. It does not at all go with the house or the deck or anything! What is the best way to darken our patio? He said we could put darkener's in the sealer but doesn't their wear off in a couple of years? Need help thank you

If I was wanting a smooth finish like that, there's NO WAY I would want any cuts made to that. I don't want anywhere for dust and dirt, etc. to be able to gather.

I hate using colour in concrete it looks good initially then always fades and never looks like the colour chart. Letting the customer know these things is important.
