Your Killing It Down The Middle Paul. I'm in California lots of very hard Golf courses. Get yourself on the kiosk where they post their scores and handicaps golf tip for tip
Paul, your tips are always so simple, so intuitive and so repeatable. Thank you for “dumbing it down” for the masses. I look forward to all your tips and plan to practice with your tips in top of mind.
Paul, every tip I’ve watched and tried has provided success on the fairway and the greens. You are a brilliant teacher. Thank you for the Body Swing program and these YT videos
Hey Paul! I’ve been watching your videos. I’m a pretty solid ball striker, but have been struggling with keeping a tight dispersion pattern. Your tip to swing @ 2/3rds of normal and slowly start increasing speed until you get to that sweet spot of speed and consistency was absolute GOLD! The other day I had someone compliment me and say I had a very smooth swing. That’s never happened. I’m just more smooth and balanced in the sweet spot zone and can control the face at impact way more than when I’m stepping on it. Thanks 🙏🏼
Very good. So glad you tried it. Turning the arms off completely (I am talking zero hitting) is the secret sauce. Here is the tip I did and some people just don't get it. Listen carefully. Get that and you will be amazing (no joke). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jjiXrGLkqj0.html Here is a youtuber I found that tried it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rf2MQOJPSwQ.html
Thanks Paul for this tip. I had a real good day in the range today. I took your relax and hing/re-hinge tip and my driver started carrying 270 and my 8 iron went from 150 to 175 consistently. Just relaxing.
Paul, I want to thank you for this lesson. I watched this three times last night and played a practice round today. I have struggled with my ball striking since I started playing golf several years ago. This lesson is amazing! My ball striking was off the charts today. I followed this religiously today and took more divots today than I ever have. Great lesson!
@@paulwilsongolf Yes, that was the beauty of this lesson. I did not fill my head with any other swing thoughts. I’m playing two rounds this week so I’ll let you know if my great ball striking continues. Again, we’ll done.
Thank You Paul. You are Correct and you have Help Me. I'm older and want to continue playing Golf. The Swing your teaching is The Key To True Golf Shots.
You're welcome. Just keep this simple. As we get older we get weaker so we don't want to be hitting hard. You need to swing loose. Don't have to be strong to be loose.
67 yr old senior here. Advanced player. I’m watching all your videos. This season I’m working on good strikes with irons. Thank You for simplifying your method. I usually go back to your relaxing wrist drill and the 9 to 3 drill for better strikes. I’ve always been a little confused with ball position. Any mention of ball position and I’m all over it.
This is a great tip for ball position. Just make it a routine so you do the same thing each time. I teach 3 positions with 3 stances. Simple. I just don't like dropping it back too face as it delofts the lower irons too much creating a mis-read on distances.
This should be video #1 on a how to golf playlist. I’ve been golfing for 1 year now and am excited I know how you recommend this. My next challenge is optimizing my arm and distance from ball at setup for various clubs. Thanks!
Thanks! You want to be about 6" away from the butt of the golf club to your belt buckle. Or your hands underneath your chin/mouth area. This will be a good distance to the ball.
All the ball position tips you see are discussions of WHAT the actual ball position IS, rather than HOW to achieve it... good to see a discussion of how to actually achieve it. I've sometimes pulled it and been sure I'd made a good swing, and that it was just a bit too far forward in the arc by which time the club had closed a little bit too much. I think I knew what ball position I wanted, but obviously didn't quite get it. It is so much harder on the course when there are things like trees, etc. to focus on - and above all, the tee box is not always pointing down the ideal line.
Grip and set up are vital for sure. I did another one here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DwqJyWyGTK8.html Yes, totally different when you are playing. Need to know what to do so you can fix it on the course.
Love your videos Paul. Just a suggestion but you might want to add a chipping stance from around the green. I assume you have your feet closer with those short chip shorts, but maybe not. Thanks!

Beginner here, been learning golf for a year now so no real bad habits at this stage. I really paid attention to the grip and practiced the effortless swing and it mostly worked. Only problem I had was it felt like my follow through just couldn't open up and the vast majority of my balls went slightly right. Felt blocked. Saw the tip of opening up my left foot 25-30 degrees. I'm guessing that will allow me to open my hips on the downswing? Can't wait to try it today. I'm loving your tips and way of playing golf. Thank you for posting all these tips.
Glad to have you on board. You open you foot to allow circular rotation of the body and it doesn't hurt your forward knee. Try turning with it straight then do a few open. You are so welcome! I know my audience. Need to keep it simple and work on things you can actually do. Loosening up is also vital. If the person can just do it a little differently they can play so much better. Keep up the good work.
Hi Sul. Thanks for that I've been having a lot of trouble with my alignment and this helps a lot, but have you a video, or could you do one on the entire ball approach, aiming and set up sequence? I need all the help I can get!
@@paulwilsongolf This seems like something you just don't get too hung up on, but definitely get down pat right away and go to town. I tried the second position with my 7 iron and was making contact constantly. Golf is a different animal.. i played baseball my entire life on a semi pro level. could have easily gone pro
@@paulwilsongolf just got back from the range and my god what a difference your tips made,i hit 75 balls and didn't top, fat, thin or sky any of them.Once again THANKS for the tip.
Wow, I wonder if this could be contributing to why I fade or push most of my shots. My ball position with most irons is about middle of my stance. 4 or 5 iron maybe slightly forward of middle... But since I hit my shots to the right, I assumed I was hitting the ball late in my swing. Will have to try this!
Did you ever try this? what you are doing is what i have been reading around online as the go to way to place the ball with irons. This seems crazy to me lol. I will need to try it out but let me know what you experienced.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks Paul. I just got back from the range and tried the neutral grip plus extended arms to keep the clubhead square tips from your other videos and all I can say is WOW! Consistently straight (except when I tighten up or try to kill the ball). Thanks so much
@@paulwilsongolf I play one length irons. After checking the video I realised my ball position had been wrong. Played last night with correct ball position. Hit all par 3s in reg with 2 pars & 1 birdie, result! 😁
Glad you figured it out. If they are 7 iron length I would be playing them 1 ball off the instep. 8 iron length then 2 balls inside. This is important as you found out.
Here's a question based on my natural swing path of the club head. I've usually just swing with my natural rhythm without forcing anything. Just whip the club using my whole body in unison, trying to get that whip snap feel from the club head. I watch where the club head crosses the lowest point of the ground and mark that spot in my head for each club I'm about to hit. That spot is my ball position because that's my lowest point as I'm approaching the ground for the club I'm about to hit, with irons up to 5 iron. Woods are a fraction further in front. Driver like most everyone else. My shorter irons are slightly back of center position about a ball or 2 depending on the grade of the land. If I put the ball as suggested further up in the stance I feel like I have to aim for the ball and not have that natural swing at it. I should mention I am 65 with some limitations on back and my rear knee and can't get full extension without pain in both areas when staying behind the ball and with my weight shifting forward and turning while my upper body and arms extend behind the ball at impact. I still stay behind the ball, but my upper body tilt at impact is not what it could be and my front elbow is slightly bent after impact as I follow through. Any suggestions?
I would keep doing what you are doing. If there are limitations then what you are doing sounds like it's right for you. Not sure why you are getting this pain. Typically, people reverse pivot or hang back on this back foot while turning their upper body through. This stresses the back. Without seeing it I may not be able to pin point the problem but usually the person is not getting off the back foot and compressing the spine. Make sure you are getting off this foot at and past impact going to a vertical position overtop of the forward foot at follow through. I would be thinking about this first then trying to get the extension on the arms. Typically that is wrists too tight and hitting with the arms. I have had tons of people that think they are loose enough when really they are not. Keep in mind it's loose wrists not loose grip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z8K3Gctkz7A.html
Paul, in your swing machine golf dvd, i remember you said 3,4, and 5 woods are the same as driver without the tee. I have been following your instruction in dvd. However, here, you are teaching 3 woods should be medium stance. Should I change my stance? Thank you very much!
Interesting. I just read that in my first book. Not sure why I would have said that. Maybe my editor changed it and I didn't catch it. I like driver off the heel. 3w to 7 iron 1 ball inside. 8 to SW or LW 2 balls inside the heel. This is easy and memorable. Forward is fine so even off the heel is fine with longer clubs. Just do it the way I showed in the tip. This way it will be perfect every time.
I had an outing yesterday, golfed absolutely terrible, TERRIBLE! So bad, you ask yourself why you even play this sport. Everything went left. I couldn't make contact. Putting, chipping...bad, bad, bad. I'm taking a day off, but will go back to the range tomorrow ( to try this tip) and get myself back on track. What a dose of humble pie.

Hey Paul, what about your back leg foot position? Are you dropping it back slightly with longer clubs such as for the driver? I believe Hogan called this closing the stance?
Paul: I'm a right handed senior golfer and right eye dominant and in regards to this tip on ball position, etc.---what part of the ball should I look at at address & when hitting it---from driver (probably the back of the ball?0 on to the fairways, hybrids to 7 iron, then at the ball positions for the 8 iron thru wedges??? The back of the ball, the top of it (center) or the front of the ball?
When I am trying to get people to move their head in the backswing I would have them look at the logo or dimple going back and as they hit the ball. Then after they get it they just see the ball as part of the landscape not fixating on it. You fixate on the ball and you will be hitting the ball which is exactly what I don't want you to do.
Well, this would be the correct ball position and width of stance so there is something in your swing that is a problem. Pulling is hitting with arms. The push is probably you lifting up and coming out of it because your hitting hard with the arms. This locks the wrists and leave the face open. Work on this: Body Swing Concept: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E8y9jEyY35k.html wrist release/snap/roll over ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M868QsTlGt4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4vASmOzkPg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N-nGM6yN790.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yHEv7G9Z5-0.html Then switch to this once unlock your wrist and get it hooking: Most popular trigger: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RdphthCQ9VM.html That will straighten it out. Normally I put ball below my nose for 7i, now I can understand why I thin shot the ball due to too much forward divot. I will practice this new ball position in the range soon
Hello Paul, when reading the The Body Swing Booklet part 1 page 5 under set up routine - Step 1 you say "Start with feet together ball in middle of feet (pros drop lead foot back a few inches)" Could tell us what you mean please as none of the down the line image views show this ( ie - page 6)? Within your "Swing machine" book down the line images don't show an offset from lead to trailing alignment across the toes? Thank you
Have your feet even. Then drop your left foot back 2-3 inches. Why pros do this is so we can swivel our head and easily see our target. With the feet even it's harder.
I know I sound like a broken record, but all your tips are excellent and easy to understand and your approach to teaching resonates with impact. Great Job!
Thank you for the tip, but you are standing right up by the ball. How would you address the distance of hitting the ball with the different club lengths? If you are too close to the ball you may chunk it, lose max power, If you too far then you reach for it, top it and lose balance.
You want your hands basically underneath your chin, this will get the butt of the golf club about 6" away from your belt buckle. With driver it would be a little further out than that.
Assuming everything in the set up is within tolerances, would you say that not turning out the lead foot would encourage more of an in to out swing, increasing the risk of a push ?
Not turning out the foot is a huge problem. When you try to turn through you will put pressure on your knee and either slide or stop short. So yes, the slide will make it swing in to out causing pushes and push fades. Not good. I just posted this one the other day: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1WD2s7lgj0Q.html
Do you think this tip would work for everyone, especially tall people? I am 6'8" and I think I may get too wide sometimes which I think restricts my hip turn.
Hmm Paul i am gonna try this, but what is correct? I looked at other videos when they say that mid Irons should be close to middle of the stance? Golf is hard when People say different things pjuhh..
They sure do. I say it this way. The club is making and arc. The more you drop it back the more open it may be and swinging out at it. The more forward the more close and in it will swing. The longer the club the longer it would take to square so moving it more forward would be ideal as the clubs get longer.
Question - I understand the distance between both feet in relation to the ball that you are communicating. However, by touching the ball with your feet, you are not creating any distance between your body and the ball. In other words, the ball is too close to your body, when you touch it with your feet. Am I missing something? Thank you.
Paul, with regard to ball position - I've never been able to understand, nor implement (although I haven't spent a ton of time trying, to be honest), a ball position that's consistent from, for example, 3 wood through 7 iron. With such a variation in club length in that category, how is it possible that the ball should be positioned the same for each of those clubs? With each shorter club, the swing arc is smaller, so won't the club contact the ground in a different spot? I know you're not the only teacher who emphasizes this approach, but you're the first I'm asking about it - because I trust your advice. Personally (and I've been playing about 30 years, former single-digit handicapper), I play my wedges off the inside of my right heel and move the ball slightly forward with each longer club, until I get to about just forward of middle with my hybrids. Is the concept of ball position a "do whatever works for your swing" kind of thing, or should my swing adapt to a "correct" ball position - which, in the case of what you're advising, would be a drastic change for me. I feel like if I implemented your 3 wood to 7 iron position, I would blade every shot! Thanks!
I just think you are making way too much out of it. Driver is the farthest forward. The longer the club the longer it takes to square so you move it forward to give it more time to reach square. 3 wood to seven are getting shorter so you move them back a little. Shorter clubs 8 down 2 balls back. The ball position you had before delofts the lower clubs to much so you get a mis-read on your iron distances. I would just stick to what is simple unless you can't do it then go back to what you did before. Up to you.
@@paulwilsongolf shockingly (kidding), I was able to implement your advice over the course of one trip to the range! Kudos again. Playing Sunday, can't wait to test everything out on the course!
Usually that would cause you to push it due to hitting it too soon in the arc. Other times when people drop the ball back too much they lean the club too forward which gives them a strong grip. This grip and hand position shuts the face.
Butt of the club with irons right side of your thigh. Or just left of your belt buckle. Hands too far ahead is a serious problem. This will cause you to have a super strong grip and shut the face at the top.
Thank you I did work on this today at range But I did not see your tip about the hands too far ahead and yes my hands are a little too far ahead and I didn’t know this a lot of low left shots

I don't want to touch the ball with iron or knock it off the tee with driver. I have bent down millions of times teeing up balls for students. I knock it of the tee I have to bent and extra time.
Another excellent video - clear, precise & simple. I do have a question though. If I am hitting 3W off the tee and have it treed up, do I use the same ball position as if I were hitting the 3W from the fairway off the turf or do I position the ball off my front heel, like the driver? Is the answer different for other clubs used for the tee shot, like on a short par-3?
So is the ball ever in the center or more towards the back leg in any of these shots? It looks like the ball is always ahead of center, even for the short irons or wedges - I’m used to playing the ball back a bit further.
It would be if you were hitting a punch shot other than that follow the tip. You start dropping it back you will deloft your clubs too much so you will get a misread on your distances. Sure, you will hit a PW 150 yards but you can't hit your driver 400 yards. This would be the person changing their PW into an 8 iron.
You are going to get a little wider stance to be more stable for the longer clubs because you are swinging faster. The ball will go further forward in the stance because a linger club is going to take that extra time to square.
@@paulwilsongolf Why would I swing "faster" with longer clubs? Movements are the same if we are using our body correctly. The club head speed will increase due to club beign longer but mechanics are executed at constant speed. I assume you aren't teaching that we should rotate body at different rates when changing clubs. If we are using our body correctly the bottom of the swing arc will be under the left shoulder with all the clubs. Thus we need to place the ball constantly behind that point opposite of the left ear. If we rotate our body at constant rate then there's no reason to change width of the stance depending on the club. Width should be wide enough to have a stable base but narrow enough to make weight shift possible without the head moving all over the place. The width of the stance should be two inches outside neutral joint alignment.
