I’ve been through this too. I was forced into Christianity and started to hate the whole concept after I felt rejected by God. I was praying for some sort of sign that things could get better for me and things just got worse. Buddhism helped me find a reason for my pain and learn acceptance of other people’s beliefs. It helped me become less angry and hateful towards life

The part about not identifying with the label "Buddhist" really resonated with me! What I lately have told people who were asking if I have any religion, was that "my philosophies are closely related to Buddhism, but I don't want to call myself a Buddhist". Because I felt that if I use that label, I am pigeonholing myself and am expected to do certain things, like be an active member of a Buddhist society/temple, perform different rituals, regularly read scriptures etc. It also goes with other things, like lately my home and lifestyle has become minimalistic/simplified, but I don't label myself as a "minimalist", since labels like this create an "I/us vs. them" mentality, when we are all just beings sharing a life on earth.

Dont worry about labels, it is smart to not subscribe to any certain teaching of doctrine. Even in Buddhism the monks and gurus don't even say they understand Buddhism fully. You cant ever fully understand it. The only time You'll ever fully 'get' it is when your life story comes to an end and then you'll look back on it all and you'll understand. Buddhism is the liberation from self

The "Buddhist" label or identity didn't even exist during ancient times, they just called themselves disciples of Buddha. I was born a Buddhist yet gradually gained more atheistic views due to all the supernatural stories about Buddha , but lately I have gotten into a more secular Buddhism, when someone asks me what religion I am, I say I'm atheist but I'm a traditionalist who still respects the religious beliefs of my ancestors. It's pretty hard for westerners to say they're Buddhist, I get it (they usually sound very pretentious). So if I were you I'd just call myself an atheist and if a theist asks you where you get your morals from you know what to say.

I practiced Buddhism and just about every eastern religion and I found they all revolve around focusing on yourself. They give u false hope that you’ll be able to save yourself. I spent the past few years pretending to be on a path to enlightenment when I realized that myself, and everyone else on this path, is lying to themselves. They all struggle with something, whether that’s pride (a big one), anxiety, addiction, depression, confusion, or selfishness. The category that these struggles all fall under is sin! And i was so opposed to the word sin because I didn’t want to admit that I wasn’t a good person. But one day God convicted me and showed me that I was not the person I was pretending to be- to myself, to others, and online. I literally thought I was helping people by telling them to meditate and to repeat affirmations. I thought these things were helping me as well, but that’s only because everyone else is doing these things, it’s trendy, it makes you feel smart and wise. We will never be able to save ourselves from sin, we are human and we need the help of Jesus. We need to know that if we believe in what God did for us by sacrificing Jesus, we can be forgiven and have a relationship with Him. The one who actually created us, will be able to KNOW us, to PROTECT us, and to WORK in our lives. He can’t do that if we deny that he exists and instead try to do everything by ourselves. I don’t blame anyone for ignoring God and choosing to trust themselves and philosophies made up by other lost and confused and lying humans. It’s in our nature to sin. But that is why we have the gospels that show us that Jesus is a REAL man, who performed miracles that can only be performed by the power of GOD, showing that he clearly was sent by God for a mission. He did not just sacrifice his life for no reason. He did not just come down to earth to tell people that God is real and to get made fun of, to get spit on, beat up, and lied to and about, for no reason. He did it because God needed it to happen, and Jesus was the only human to obey God. He never sinned against God, he acknowledged him and trusted him fully, so that he never allowed the devil to tempt him into doing wrong- either in this world or even in his head or heart. His compassion and love was so supernatural that he has to be God. He never hurt a soul, and was incapable of lying. God sent him down to earth so that he could be killed and rise from the dead to prove that GOD IS REAL AND HE TRIUMPHS OVER DEATH. The enemy rules this world and ruins so many peoples lives by causing them to turn against God and to sin. The Bible states that the wages of sin is death. So because we sin, we deserve to die… Jesus did not sin so he did not deserve to die. But he did it for us, so that he could fulfill the promise that God made to Adam and Eve in genesis 3:15 that one of eve’s offspring, a human, would defeat the serpent (the devil!) to question why God needed to send down Jesus to atone for what we’ve done would be foolish, because clearly he is more intelligent than any of us. He created us. He knows what must be done for us. Once i accepted Jesus into my life I have never felt more relieved. I no longer feel guilty because I know I’ve been forgiven. I no longer have any urge to sin- to curse, to continue with my addictions, to entertain prideful thoughts, to dress in ways that get guys attention. None of that matters at all to me anymore. All I care about is doing the will of God, and that is saving those who feel like nobody loves them or will forgive them. But someone will, and that’s Jesus. Trust me, the rise of Buddhism and this whole movement of acceptance and love for everyone no matter what they are doing is the lie of the enemy. We can’t just watch people continue to do wrong and entertain whatever they feel is right just because they want to. Jesus said “enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13). Remember, it’s literally proven that Jesus existed. And he states many times that all you have to do to be forgiven and be made right by God is to believe in him. The Bible also says that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. This is what this whole rise of new age spirituality and taking beliefs from all different religions is all about- it’s the enemy leading you away from the only way to salvation. That’s why people cringe when you even mention Jesus, because the devil and his doctrine have been brainwashing you in every way to think that Jesus is wrong and unaccepting. Actually, he’s the only man in history to ever perform the miracles that he did, and the only name you can call on when under attack that actually works to save you, and that’s why the devil doesn’t want you believing in Him. The devil will try to lead you in every single way, away from the truth- through music media porn drugs culture and ESPECIALLY FALSE SPIRITUALITY! You will all believe in the matrix but haven’t yet realized that the devils main target in creating a false matrix is in the topic of spirituality. The spirit realm is real and demons have infiltrated just about every part of this life, even the church. That’s why Christians will be lukewarm, they won’t actually believe in the healing power of Jesus and the spirit realm, because the devil has even brainwashed them! My friends, you must believe in Jesus and serve God, then you will truly be protected. Then you truly be fulfilled, knowing you’ve found the truth. I spent a lot of time being a “seeker”, looking into every religion, practice, belief, theory, and philosophy. None of them cured my addictions and my crippling sense of pride and overwhelming confusion about life. Jesus literally showed me the truth about who I am, what this life is, and why he is the way, the truth, and the life, just like he says in John 14:6. I urge you to pick up a bible and just read it. Deep down, you know that the God of the Bible is true, and that he loves you even though you’ve broken his commandments and deep down you feel guilt for it. You don’t want to give up your own identity to follow Jesus instead, so your heart hardens and you feel offended when people bring this up. I ask that you just soften your heart and read this again as if I could be speaking the truth. I don’t write this to spread a random lie, I write this because it hurts to see how people will believe in a man named Buddha who claimed to sit under a tree for 6 days and then experience a state of “nirvana”, but they won’t believe in Jesus, the son of the living God, who performed supernatural miracles multiple times and lived a horribly hard life just because he loved us so much. Buddhism is an atheist philosophy that consists of a bunch of random ideas created by a man who claimed to have the key to end suffering. How could he be the one with the key if he claims to not be God or to know God? Something to think about. I hope you open your eyes to Jesus, and remember, it’s a good thing to feel convicted. It shows you where you can do better, and the second you admit your sins, God will forgive you. He doesn’t like pride, or when you pretend to know it all. He wants you to be real and vulnerable and admit that you need his help. He loves you so much and wants you to believe in what he’s done by sending down his one and only son Jesus to pay the price for our sins. Thank you for reading if you got this far. ♥️

Two greatest sutras from Buddha ..... (Must read for beginners) The Sutra of the Great Net and "Sutra of the Lion’s Roar" Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh wrote: …. Buddha spoke: “Bhikkhus, there are countless philosophies, doctrines, and theories in this world. People criticize each other and argue endlessly over their theories. According to my investigation, there are sixty-two main theories that underlie the thousands of philosophies and religions current in our world. Looked at from the Way of Enlightenment and Emancipation, all sixty-two of these theories contain errors and create obstacles.” The Buddha proceeded to explain the sixty-two theories and expose their errors. He spoke on the eighteen theories concerning the past- four theories of eternalism, four theories of partial eternalism, four theories on the finitude and infinity of the world, four theories of endless equivocation, and two theories that claim that causality does not exist. He spoke about the forty-four theories that concern the future- sixteen that allege the soul lives on after death, eight that say there is no soul after death, eight that posit there is neither a soul that continues after death nor ceases to continue after death, seven nihilistic theories, and five theories that say that the present is already Nirvana. After exposing all the errors contained in these theories, the Buddha said, “A good fisherman places his net in the water and catches all the shrimp and fish he can. As he watches the creatures try to leap out of the net, he tells them, ‘No matter how high you jump, you will only land in the net again.’ He is correct. The thousands of beliefs flourishing at present can all be found in the net of these sixty-two theories. Bhikkhus, don’t fall into that bewitching net. You will only waste time and lose your chance to practice the Way of Enlightenment. Don’t fall into the net of mere speculation. “Bhikkhus, all these beliefs and doctrines have arisen because people have been led astray by their perceptions and feelings. When mindfulness is not practiced, it is impossible to see the true nature of perceptions and feelings. When you can penetrate the roots and see into the true nature of your perceptions and feelings, you will see the impermanent and interdependent nature of all dharmas. You will no longer be caught in the net of desire, anxiety, and fear, or the net of the sixty-two false theories.” ===== ...."Sutra of the Lion’s Roar. " -The Buddha spoke, “Community, the Way of Enlightenment can tear down the walls of ignorance, just as light can disperse the shadows. The Four Noble Truths, Impermanence, Non-self, Dependent Co-arising, the Four Establishments of Mindfulness, the Seven Factors of Awakening, the Three Gates, and the Noble Eightfold Path have all been proclaimed to the world like a lion’s roar, dispelling countless false doctrines and narrow --The lion is king of the beasts. When he leaves his den, he stretches and gazes out over all the directions. Before seeking his prey, he lets forth a mighty roar that causes the other creatures to tremble and flee. - Birds fly high, crocodiles dive beneath the water, foxes slip into their holes. Even village elephants, decked in fancy belts and ornaments and shaded by golden parasols, run away at the sound of that roar. -Community, the proclamation of the Way of Enlightenment is like that lion’s roar! …..False doctrines fear and tremble. When Impermanence, Non-self, and Dependent Co-arising are proclaimed, all those who have long sought false security in ignorance and forgetfulness must awaken, celestial beings as well as human beings. When a person sees the dazzling truth, he exclaims, ‘We embraced dangerous views for so long, taking the impermanent to be permanent, and believing in the existence of a separate self. We took suffering to be pleasure and look at the temporary as if it were eternal. We mistook the false for the true. Now the time has come to tear down all the walls of forgetfulness and false views.’ -Community, the Way of Enlightenment allows humanity to remove the thick veil of false views. -When an enlightened person appears, the Way echoes like the majestic sound of the rising tide. When the tide rises, all false views are swept away. -Community, people are easily caught by four traps. The first is attachment to sensual desires. The second is attachment to narrow views. The third is doubt and suspicion. The fourth is false view of self. -The Way of Enlightenment helps people overcome the four great traps. Community, the teaching on dependent co-arising will enable you to overcome every obstacle and trap. Contemplate the nature of interdependence in your daily life, in your body, feelings, mind, and objects of mind.” Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh

I want to be a Buddhist, because I’m an alcoholic. We speak of god in AA (which I know isn’t the case here), but maybe I’ll be able to understand the meeting more. Either that or I’ll feel no reason to drink at all out of peacefulness. Thank you so much for sharing, you may have saved my life!

Hi Rachel, I was going through some very dark times for the past four years through the death of my mother and separation from my husband and I was looking for answers because because my heart was so broken and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I looked into yoga and meditation and the law of attraction, H’oponopono and I’m pretty sure I would have gone the Buddhist path had I not experienced what I experienced next. One evening I came across a newspaper article on how to stop smoking by praying so I did even though I didn’t believe God existed and I prayed in the name of Jesus like my sister had taught me when I was 13 (my faith then was not that strong and then at 25 I stopped believing all together). I prayed this simple half heartedly prayer to stop smoking and went to bed without expecting anything obviously. The next day I woke up as usual to have my coffee with my morning cigarette and when I tried to roll it, it dissolved in my hand, so I tried again and I couldn’t light it up with a lighter that was working perfectly fine just not on my cigarette, and when I finally managed to light it up it tasted disgusting so I spat it out and haven’t smoked since or craved a cigarette either. That was at the end of October 2017. Also my desire to drink to get drunk and high on weed every weekend in order to escape my reality disappeared instantly together with my desire to watch porn in my times of loneliness (which were many). But not only that Rachel, a peace entered my heart that I couldn’t understand and I knew in that moment that Jesus is indeed the truth, the way and the life. So I fell down to my knees to ask for forgiveness and Jesus came to live in my heart. It’s been over a year now of that glorious precious day when I received God’s mercy and grace and I’m still experiencing peace and joy everyday and I know I’m here for a purpose and that the Holy Spirit is with me is with me and I have hope for the future knowing that God has a good plan for my life. God loves you Rachel, ask Him to show you the truth, ask Him to show you Jesus. Jesus came to heal the sick and to find those who were lost. He died on the cross so that you and I can live a life of abundance if we believe in Him. I’m happy to talk if you want. God bless you sister ❤️

For some reason I just can't get into going to spiritual temples. I never liked church when I was a kid. And when I first got into Buddhism, I attended a center where everyone sat down, and there was a teacher dude who was talking, and then the whole crowd would sing at times, and then when the teacher dude got up to exit, everyone had to get up and bow to him as he passed by. I just don't like it, it reminded me too much of church, and I don't align with it. I rather have my own personal spiritual time, reading books, going out to nature, etc. And so as a result I never meet like minded people, because I don't like going to these "gatherings".

Agustín Álvarez I’m from America and idk, bowing to us is almost like a sign of a nasty sacrifice or something you’d see on fictional TV. Perhaps we just interpret this gesture differently and aren’t used to it. Just like we find it messed up to kiss someone on the cheek the moment we meet them. Body language to acquaintances is all about perspective and culture I guess.

Agreed! Im an english girl and western society is just a negative environment to be in. I hate it. I wish i grew up somewhere were community and spirituality is a big thing and not being constantly shown fast rubbish food and adverts 24/7. Im getting fed up with being forced fed by consumerism and unhealthy lifestyles. My main issue other then the westernized food industry is the drink culture. These two are seemingly so hard for my to avoid or stop myself from doing - its a craving, a bit like an addiction as its so ingrained into you from a young age and its counted as acceptable over here. It affects both my health and mental health, its a hard habit to kick

I'm going through some pretty challenging things at the moment, but thanks to your articulation and compassion some teachings were made much clearer for me. I served in Viet Nam in '68 and '69. I met a very intelligent young villager who opened the door to Buddhism for me. I'm now 69 and find myself alone again after being with someone for over 25 years. In spite of the sudden change I'm able to know this is simply the context of the moment and will indeed pass. Peace from beautiful Oregon!

Thanks for the video xxx Some of the best advice I got was from Pema Chodron. Also, my zen teacher years ago told me that it's not possible to just fall out of the universe.. so I may as well just get used to myself and all its faults and habits. The path starts then... undoing, unlearning, making open space in the mind that doesn't get filled with something else. Being aware of my awareness is good.. Notice when the mind has a mind of its own.. doing whatever it likes in an uncontrolled way.. and practice bringing it back to a neutral, quiet state. Simple hey? Not really.

For the rest of my life I will learn and practice Buddhism, it was put in my path by my experiences for a reason! What do people think, do you think this was an experience to put me on this path?

I love learning about Buddhism and I made a video on one of the 3 marks of existence in Buddhism know as imperminance which is to say that nothing in life is permanent, not your job, your emotions or even the very elements that make up life. It's all a constant dance that we should be aware of and not instinctively react to. Be aware of imperminance on a permanent basis, ha! Be the silent witnessing presence in the here and now. Great video! :)

My Father is a Buddhist and growing up I never understood it. He had a calm presence and kind. Even in anger, he was calm. As Im older now, I understand more of his beliefs and wish to follow his path.

I always need to come back to this video and remember these words and ideas. I keep trying to pursue things and label myself as something so I can feel a comforting sense of belonging. But I always end up feeling trapped and suffocated by words and their definitions/expectations and I bail. I even did this with Buddhism - I was under the impression I had to change who I was entirely - my introvertedness, my music, my clothing style, my natural liked and dislikes. But clearly I missed the whole point of Buddhism. And now that I’ve been on a massive personal journey and learnt a lot of lessons, I feel ready to start pursuing this again and to take and apply these teachings and my own lessons and make something personal, comfortable and freeing

I’m a Christian, but I also want to practice some Buddhist practices, and maybe even Hindu (without worshiping their Gods) I just really like the teachings of those religions. 🙏

You can follow Buddhist and Hindu philosophy without leaving Christianity. Hinduism believes that there is one God but he/she manifests in many forms for his devotees. You can choose whatever form you like. If you see god as Jesus there is no problem in it. Hope it was helpful!

I grew up in the church and went to bible college to become a youth and outreach pastor. Traveling for years preaching throughout the US and something always felt missing in my life. I put Christianity and ministry on the back burner and began to search for true peace and happiness in life. I came across Buddhism and saw I was lied to about Buddhism all my life. I am a Buddhist because it brought me to peace with in myself and see I can fulfill my life's desire in helping others. I love life again and have true lasting peace with in!

there are thousands of different types and sects of buddhism..... so what buddhist practice do you use? I practice nichiren buddhism. i think its best not to teach it as each sect of buddhism is the same. Some believe you are meant to sit there in silence at the top of a mountain and wait to gain enlightenment. Others like myself and the members of SGI believe chanting nam myoho renge quo and creating action in your life, allows you to exist in harmony with the universe and all other beings, through sound which is our action. We are all buddhists. There is a buddha inside each and every one of us. Either way, helping others to recognize siddhartha and buddhism is wonderful thank you for sharing.

I have a question 💝🙏 I'm 27 and I'm starting my first semester in january at a community college doing two years there and two at a university. My first semester is mostly electives a lot of art 🎨 I'm wanting to incorporate the buddishim lifestyle in my soon to be busy life. On top of that I'm a mother of a almost 11 year old I have joint custody. I also have a strong family life. I had a really hard life being pulled out of school at 12 years old to make the story short. I achieved a lot this year 🙏💝 in my life got my life back from a very mentally abusive marriage. 3 years ago I lost my dad at 50 to cancer , my daughter at 5 months along 2 months before dad died. My marriage got very mentally bad and physically. I finally achieved a life with out him and in a great place as of this year personal life wise. I'm still holding grief from all my losses my mother left two months after dad died my grandma is in a nursing home since dad got sick they got sick a few weeks in between each other in 2014 and 2014 I lived in the hospitals from grandma falling ill dad getting diagnosed with cancer and me losing my daughter and almost dying. Sorry for the long story its a bit of a long one but my point is I've done so much in one year got my hiset and now I'm in college and I've got my son around more now! Got my permit (wasn't allowed to drive when I was married) but I still want a spiritual life I'm a fast learner and id love to have some tips if possible it would be very enlightening! 🙏💝📝 thank you koi! Have a great day -Micki Anderson

Mick Anderson the advice I can give as a zen Buddhist since the age of 13 is peace and focus which can be achieved with various elements the one which mostly works is meditation and yoga I personally practice meditation in the traditional pose being legs crossed and arms on knees but it may be a different way for you I hope you find peace and focus much respect to you.

I'm looking into Buddhism as I've been dealing with extreme depression and just extremely low self esteem and addiction and I've tried ending my life multiple times. After finding out about Buddhism I kind of felt a calling almost, I just want to be able to experience peace with myself and the world and experience happiness with just being alive. I want to be a better person and I have a really strong feeling that this is right for me.

I have a genuine question for the noble truths. If you successfully detach yourself from the desires, does it take passion out of your life? Like if you never have a way that you want to live or goals you want to achieve, doesn’t that make it impossible to live a full life? And things such as falling in love, or practicing hobbies, pursuing a career, or standing up for injustice, are those things allowed or are they causes of suffering?

I don’t understand how to stay motivated in life when you let go of your desires? Can someone reference me to some material on this
@Raddrizz
@Raddrizz 4 года назад
I'm just now getting into buddhism but I'd say maybe realize that just existing is enough, enjoy the little things, the moment, understand you are only here briefly and never know how long. Having desires only leads to despair when not obtaining them. Appreciate what the universe offers you, understand you have no control over anyone/anything, only your own mindset.
@Raddrizz
@Raddrizz 4 года назад
As far as motivation, just living is enough. Possessions and acts are only temporary happiness that makes you long for more when not available.
@vpd2121
@vpd2121 3 года назад
Like, what I think they mean is to just let go of the outcome. Be passionate about what you want and desire, but just don't hold onto to it if it will happen or not. Whatever you desire may be fulfilled or not, but you can strive for it and enjoy every moment of it.
